Monday Musings...

My first Monday as a retired (again) woman!!

Today, my new refrigerator (no fancy stuff - but it should work and not leak on the floor) will be delivered between 8:15 and 11:15, which means I have to get up earlier than I wanted to, but thank God for His blessings.  They are also bringing a new stackable washer/dryer.  My current appliances have been limping along for over a year now, so it's time.  No more repair bills.

You may have seen these photos on Facebook, but here they are again.  On Saturday, I had lunch with my grandchildren, Lauren and Tristan.  Lauren's boyfriend, Jeremy, also came.  It was great fun and we were already talking about the next time.  Tristan may even come up for a couple of nights before he heads to his next job, hopefully in Washington, DC.  He has had two interviews at two places, and has been called back for second interviews at both. Fingers crossed for him.  He was in DC for a year at a one-year  assignment, then took a job in New York City.  He hated it there, and the job so resigned from it and has been back in Naples with his mom and stepdad.  He is ready to get going again.  His degrees are in engineering and economics but he prefers economics.

Always beautiful, where the Peace River flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

Yesterday was Sunday school and church.  It was communion Sunday and we had our first potluck luncheon (after summer).  It was hot but not unbearable in the shade.  I took a creamy Italian pasta salad that was nearly gone when I left.

I did my laundry when I got home and cleaned out the laundry closet.  I also had to unload the fridge in the kitchen and pack everything into the one in the workroom/den.  I keep beverages in that fridge so it was rather like putting a puzzle together to make it all fit. I also took the opportunity to just trash a few things that were nearly gone.  Good thing it's trash day!

My first week at home is a busy one.  Deliveries today, dentist appointment tomorrow, Women's Bible Study on Wednesday, and another Bible study on Thursday at the church.  Joe and I used to go to the Thursday Bible study and I'm looking forward to joining that group again.  Our Pastor leads it and he calls is "The Cutting Room" because he talks over his sermon notes for the following Sunday.  The Women's study will be new to me, though I know most of the ladies.  I see my podiatrist on Thursday.

Update on my seeking an outfit to wear for my nephew's wedding...  I decided to recycle from my own closet.  I have a few "fancier" things from museum events and will wear a pretty top with sparkles (not over-the-top sparkles) with black dress slacks.  I sent my sister, Patti, a picture of the top and she approved. Done and done.

Wishing you all a good week ahead!!

Peace and Hugs!

Sing, oh sing, of my Redeemer,
With His blood, He purchased me.
On the cross, He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt, and made me free.

  1. That time with the grandkids is precious! Hope Tristan gets the right job for him and he enjoys it.
Shopping from the closet is always good. :)

  2. I hope Tristan finds a good job in economics like he wants. I can sure understand why he'd rather be near family than living up there in or near the DC and NYC cesspits. It's a black hole up there. Good for him being pro-active.
Hope the new refrigerator and other appliances work out well too.
Have a great week fellow Retiree. Blessings. 💙

  3. I'm working toward that hopefully "final" retirement date! I'm slowing easing my way out though, working 4 days a week through the end of the year and then cutting down to 3 until I finally retire on March 7th. How I wish that my kids and grandkids lived closer - they are all in Atlanta and I am in Indiana. No chance that I'm moving that way though - way too hot in the summer for me! I found myself single after 40+ years of marriage and have been trying to figure out how to live this single life. My church group has been amazing and God is always faithful! I enjoy reading your blog!

  7. Here in this house, we are often reminded of just how busy retirement is and wonder how we ever got it all done with jobs, too! Looks like you're off to a great start. As for your clothing selections for the wedding, sounds very nice!

  10. Oh, happy first Monday of your retirement (again!)! I hope by now the appliances have been delivered and installed and you are happily refilling your fridge with only things that aren't past their expiration date! LOL. I need to do that...especially salad dressings and condiments. And I'll be interested to hear how you like your new washer and dryer. We expect pictures when you are ready! LOL. Your wedding outfit sounds perfect! Glad you could "recycle" something from your closet. I'm sure the wedding guests won't have seen anything in your closet of special outfits, so why not wear something from there! Makes great sense to me! The wedding we are going to in late October in NC is going to be outside...somewhat casual...who knows what the weather will be? So I really have no clue what to wear yet. Definitely not wearing heels! LOL. We will be in a wooded area, and then a tent for the reception dinner...all vegan food! Should be interesting. I love seeing you with your grandkids, etc. Looks like such a great place to meet! And it sounds like your first week of retirement is busy busy! But all good stuff! Enjoy yourself!!! I'm so happy for you! Bye for now.
