Your Kitchen
Howdy friends and welcome back for another of Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
I need renovations throughout my home and that includes the kitchen. So, I've been collecting pictures with ideas on painting my cabinets, replacing my 1957 kitchen window, my cracked tile floors and my rusty sink and damaged countertops. Could we talk about kitchens for a bit?
1. Is this kitchen in the photo one that you would enjoy working in? Did you have one of those step stools in your home growing up?
I am not fond of the kitchen in the photo. I prefer a more modern look for my kitchen. As for the step stool, yes. My Granny had one and I had one in my own kitchen for several years.
2. What appliances are absolute necessities in your kitchen and what can you do without. I've been doing without the ice maker in my freezer because it doesn't work. I'm making ice like we used to make ice... in cube trays. Not that inconvenient, I guess. I'm partial to my toaster, my coffee pot, my stove, my microwave, my refrigerator, and my dishwasher.
3. What items are always in your pantry? Pasta, rice, soups, broths, cake mixes, some veggies (but I use frozen vegs most), canned chicken breast, canned tuna, grits, oatmeal... and appliances listed below...
4. How about your countertops... filled with things or empty? Filled with things but with room for food prep. My kitchen is cluttered and lived in. And my refrigerator has lots of magnets. No apologies. It is clean, though! I am so blessed to have a walk-in pantry and I keep the bigger appliances there, like my Kitchen-Aid mixer, electric grill. electric skillet, bread maker, waffle maker, pizzelle maker, ice cream machine, hand mixer... etc.

You're having to make ice cubes too?! Our new 'frigerator's ice maker is a pain, it's noisy, unreliable and it has to have an expensive filter every so many weeks. Forget that! We are making our own in the cube tray now. It's no trouble. When our dishwasher broke during the plandemic and we couldn't afford or find another one because of the inflation, Steve took the old one out of the wall and made it storage. It's so easy to handwash the dishes. In the long run it's a lot less trouble. I'm done with all these expensive do-dads that break and also break our budget.
ReplyDeleteSermon over. lolol
Today is grocery day. I'm praying it will rain. We sure need it.
Love & Blessings. 💙
Oh, I'm with you on having the things I need out and around me. You are blessed with a large walk in pantry! I have nice pantry cabinet that Benton built for me, but it isn't quite that large, but it's a big help. I forgot to list tuna and canned chicken breast. I keep those in the fridge so they are ready to eat when I want to make tuna and /or chicken salad! And grits! Of course! (the instant packets). This was fun. I know good things come out of your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteYou are a genius, Pam!! I've never thought of keeping the tuna in the fridge so it's cold and ready to make tuna salad!! I use the canned chicken in soups and casseroles but may have to try chicken salad!! I only make grits from scratch so haven't tried the instant packets. Is it just as good?
DeleteWe had a step stool like that when I was young too. You're so lucky to have a walk in pantry. Our kitchen is small but I like it!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, we had a step stool like that and I think my mother-in-law still has hers!! I like a more modern kitchen. I actually don't like a lot of things on my counters so I store some of my appliances/gadgets in the pantry. My food processor is under a cabinet. My big stand mixer is in a tiny closet (not really a closet but a door to under the stairs and Mark put a bookshelf in there). My crockpots are all outside on a garage shelf along with my electric skillet.
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen, Terri ... in particular that pizzelle maker. (*grin*) I still keep several ice cube makers at the ready in case the ice maker hiccups (again). You've just reminded me, now's the season to start freezing coffee cubes again.
ReplyDeleteAfter having a family I found that the kitchen is the heart of the home, it needs to have that lived in feel, it makes people feel welcome. Hope you're enjoying a great day!♥
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about our kitchen is that Danny cooks - LOL! I love our coffeemaker and cast iron skillets especially, and a stove that works beautifully. Blessings, Terri!
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, a wonderful post. I saw that waffle maker. I do love waffles and pancakes too. Annie is such a gem. Love visiting her and everyone here.
ReplyDeleteI do miss having a walk-in pantry, which I had at our Lititz house. I have the toaster, toaster oven, Sunbeam mixer, and Kuerig on top of the counters. The air fryer is on top of the fridge. And the microwave is over the stove.
ReplyDeleteWe had a step stool like that when our children were young.
I enjoyed your answers. It seems many of us have the same things in our pantries. I like envisioning what others kitchens look like.
