Monday's Weekend Recap...

Friday afternoon I had my 4-month check-up with my primary doctor.  She was happy with my bloodwork and stressed that those of us who got the Moderna vaccinations need to wait for the Moderna booster and she hopes it is coming soon.  Speaking of vaccinations, I was past due for a pneumonia booster and a tetanus booster. so her nurse came in and stuck me on both arms.  The tetanus arm is still sore, three days later, but I am happy to be up-to-date with both shots.

On Saturday, Mrs. Boss picked me up at 9:45 and we were off to the Lake Wales Pioneer Days Festival. We chatted the entire ride and it was fun getting to know her better.  I will continue to call her Mrs. Boss for social media reasons - her choice and I respect it.  Our mutual friend, Monika, can be named now (was Vol-M) and you will see her artwork below!

There was a great crowd and there were around 50 artists and
a half-dozen pioneer demonstration areas.

My new friend, Monika, does the Rosemaling painting.  Her booth was nicely busy!

Mrs. Boss was interested in the pine needle baskets and she purchased one.
That is her standing there. (She said I could post this photo.)

There was a classic car show.

Lots of food options...

The lovely Lake Wales, for which the town is named.

We could hear the high school band playing when we arrived.

We passed this house on the way back to the car and I just had to take a picture.
Isn't it so pretty! I love the front porch and even the yellow color!

This was my one purchase, from Monika.  I really like it!!

We stopped at Miller's Ale House on the way home for some lunch.  I had a Philly cheesesteak and brought half of it home to have for my dinner. Yummy.

Yesterday was Sunday school and church. I did some laundry and cooked some smoked sausage, cabbage, onions, and bell peppers for a yummy meal and enough for another today!  I will see Helen after work and have prescriptions to pick up at Publix before getting home.  I am getting the shed work done on Tuesday afternoon and am excited to get that rearranged and settled!

Peace & hugs!
Jesus loves us, this I know!!

  4. I love those kind of festivals. We haven't had one here in so long. Pensacola had been doing a big fall one ---I am going to have to check now. I love your purchase. Everything in that tent is adorable. I have not seen pine straw baskets but that is interesting.
That yellow house is so cute.

  6. The tray you bought is beautiful!
I had never heard of pine needle basket weaving. How interesting and also clever to do that. I will research it some more because it sounds interesting.
It must be the weather with the boiled cabbage because we had it with ham and boiled potatoes and carrots! Yummy!

  9. I just looked up the process for making the pine needle baskets. Oh my, it is so time consuming! However they are beautiful creations! I don't know the cost of them but if a person paid by the labor invested, they would cost more than a bit. Thanks for introducing me to something new.

  11. How nice. I would have liked to have one of those crosses, if they're handmade. Very lovely.
It's supposed to get cold here this week. I hope that's an accurate forecast. It rained last night, so, that's promising.
Have a blessed week my friend. xx

  14. What a lovely setting, Terri! Like Sparky, I'm really taken with Monika's crosses. I'm guessing yours is a bread bowl? And those are pineapples ... the symbol for hospitality? Great choice!

  16. I am wondering if Rosemaling and Tole Painting are the same thing? They seem similar. Monika's work is really wonderful.

    1. They are similar, that's for sure. I know that Rosemaling is Norwegian so maybe it is more a translation thing...
