The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge of questions!  Y'all can join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 437

From this Side of the Pond

1. What obligation do you believe you have to your country?  I am not in the military but I would give my life for my country.  I consider myself a Patriot.

2. October 12 is National Farmers Day.  Do you know any farmers?  Yes, quite a few actually.  My paternal grandparents were farmers.  I grew up in a very small farming community so nearly everyone I went to school with were farmers or had farmers in their families.  My brother put himself through college building grain bins and they still stand by many barns back home today.  What do they farm/grow/raise?  Midwestern farmers raise corn, wheat, soybeans, and pigs.  Are there any farm stands where you live?  There are farmers' markets everywhere here in my central Florida area. Do you shop there?  Yes, I sure do!

3. What's a skill you think everyone should have?  Kindness, please.  Tell us why?  Because too many people today are not kind anymore.

4. Favorite thing you've purchased this year?  A new cordless stick vacuum cleaner. My old one died and couldn't be revived so I got a new one. It is SO convenient to quickly pick up cat hair, cat treat crumbs, and dust bunnies. So easy to use.

5. What's your favorite place to visit in the fall?  Apple orchards!  I really, really, miss visiting apple orchards in the fall.  My favorite apple is Cortland and the best are from the Catoctin Mountain Orchard.  We went always once if not more when we lived in Virginia.  A beautiful ride up to historic Thurmont, Maryland.  See my sweetheart standing in front of the building.  That's the last time (2004) we were there.  (That is also the area where Camp David is...)

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I am so, so blessed to have so many wonderful memories of my years with Joe.  The memories just make my heart swell and even if there are tears, they are happy tears because of how blessed I was to have him in my life.

From whom all blessings flow!!
Peace & hugs!!

  1. Aw, this was so beautiful, Terri. I love the picture at the apple orchard, and that you and Joe had these special memories together. I love apple orchards too, and really miss them in the fall. I would love to take a trip right now up north just to go to one and get some fresh apples, and apple cider and apple cider donuts. This was a great post. I love farm country. When we lived in Ohio, those were some special people and places around there. I do miss that, but not enough to move back up north in winter. LOL. Except maybe for a white Christmas, and then head back down here. This was nice. Thank you.

  2. Good questions and answers... I was always surprised how we could never get fresh fish down in Fort Myers at the markets.. loved those oranges in January!

  4. The good memories are that -- good. They help us, don't they?

I always wondered where Camp David was.

  5. I consider myself a patriot, too, Terri, and I do think we could all use a lot more kindness in this world. I guess we can do our part by practicing it ourselves.
Lovely photo of Joe in front of the apple orchard building. I know you miss him with all your heart. I'm keeping you in prayer!
    Blessings!

  6. Yes, manners are so important. Kindness is never wasted. I don't think most people are taught how to converse with civility anymore.
I bought a Shark bagless vacuum cleaner that's a wonder. It works good for dust bunnies, etc. too. Best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned.
    Have a blessed Wednesday! xx

  7. Terri, I heard a quote one time that said, Memories are our roses in December. So true as we get older. I agree that kindness and courtesy are very important and we should try to be true gentlemen and Ladies.

  8. There is no perfect vacuum cleaner, but they've definitely improved over the years. I should just design my own: there shouldn't be inaccessible nooks or crannies, the pieces should easily disconnect to find any blockages, the wand should be super simple to use while vacuuming the floor so that no spiders get away ever. It should have a huge-0 long cord that never gets tangled, and be lightweight, bagless, with an amazing filtration system.
I also loved your Catoctin Mountain pic, we've driven through there countless time on the way to the D.C. area/Virginia to visit Samuel, it's beautiful but we've never stopped. We live in apple country here. There are orchards everywhere, especially along Lake Ontario.
What a blessing to have such good memories with Joe...

  9. Loving this image of your Joe at the Fruit Market! I know you were a blessing to him, as well. Thanks for including the link to your new vacuum! Ready to kick our HEAVY Oreck upright to the curb.

  10. Sweet photo of Joe at the fruit market. We definitely are blessed to be able to have photos of our loved ones. Generations before us didn't have that. Even when photography existed, many people couldn't afford to have their photo taken, so when they passed away (or emigrated), there was no way to revisit their countenance.

I love farmer's markets too. There is one that is in walking distance of my house. However, I don't generally walk there, because if I buy a watermelon or butternut squash, I don't want to have to walk the almost 2 miles home with something awkward to carry.

    Blessings on your day,
    Patti

  15. We've done some camping in the Catoctins and my sister-in-law lives in that area still. So pretty! I'm glad your memories are a comfort to you. Grief truly comes in waves and I am thinking of you today. My girls and I want to meet you for lunch one day : )
