Weddings

Thanks for joining in. I hope you find them fun to do and if you have any ideas for questions please let me know in the comments here or on my personal blog, Cottage by the Sea.

This week let's talk about engagements and marriage okay?

1. If you are married would you share how your husband proposed to you?  He didn't really propose formally.  We just started talking about getting married and knew we would.  How long were you engaged before you got married?  I took classes to join the Catholic church and had to file for an annulment of my first marriage.  It took 18 months.  We got married a couple of months after it came through.  If you aren't married, what would be ideal for you?  I am not married now and am not sure I ever will be again.  Perhaps one day I might meet someone but I am not hurrying it nor longing or looking for it.  God is in control.

2. Did you receive an engagement ring?  No.  Joe asked if I wanted one and I told him no.  Waste of money (for us at that time, anyway).  I had one from my first marriage and it meant nothing.  I am still wearing Joe's wedding band on my right hand.  Keeping him with me!

3. What kind of wedding did you have?  Very small with immediate family only, May 11, 1985.  Was it big or small, formal, informal, religious, or a justice of the peace?  We were married at St. Michael's Catholic Church, in Annandale, VA, by Fr. Jerome Fasano.  No wedding gown.  We wore suits.  Two friends stood up with me and the boys stood up with their dad.  It was perfect for us.  (We both had big weddings the first time.)

4.Was there a honeymoon?  Nope.  Couldn't afford to go away and we both had to work, anyway.  I actually took a week off because I had to move from my apartment to the house we bought together.  Joe was already living there with the boys.  Where did you go, how long did you stay?  We called our trip to Italy in 2007 our delayed (much delayed) honeymoon/trip of a lifetime.  It was a 12-day tour and was wonderful.

Peace & hugs!
Jesus loves us!!

  5. Such sweet memories. Y'alls marriage ceremony was similar to ours. We went the casual route. I had a long pink store bought dress instead of the traditional white. Still have it but it no longer fits. *lol* And the ceremony was performed by a Notary Public at an apartment Clubhouse. We had a grand 'ol time dancing and such. Then a delayed honeymoon to the Grand Canyon later that year. Seems like such a long time ago.
    Love & Prayers xx

I'd never tell Tom, but I'm not a fan of engagement rings (or diamonds).

Love your blog so informative and simplistic and nice. No whining and complaining. Your husband would be so proud of you.

  13. For some reason, your blog updates don't show up on my "blogs I read" section anymore. I had been thinking about you, so I thought I would just pop by, to see if you had ceased blogging. Alas, there are dozens of post that never appeared on my blogroll.

In the past month, 2 friends have lost their husbands (one just yesterday). One husband was 61, the other 48. Both knew the Lord, so there is that hope. But, like you, each woman is now living with half her heart missing.

By the way, I am blogging again. Have been since January, though I didn't make it a public blog until a few weeks ago.

    Love,
    Patti
