Ain't That a Kick in the Head
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Ain't That a Kick in the Head (1960)
Unfamiliar with this song? Hear it here.
1) Dean Martin asks the musical question, "How lucky can one guy be?" Tell us about a time when you got a lucky break. I consider my new job a lucky break!!
2) This song was introduced in the original Ocean's 11 movie. Have you seen it, or the remake and its sequels? I have indeed and have actually watched them all three or four times. They were favorites of Joe's too.
3) All the Ocean's movies are about heists. Why do you suppose audiences enjoy watching caper films? The cast for the Ocean's movies was the biggest draw, I think, and the storyline and character development had you on the bad guys' sides. It was just fun. I've seen the original, too, but prefer the one with George Clooney, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts...

4) Dean was born in Steubenville, OH. Though he seldom returned to his hometown, he kept Steubenville in his thoughts, regularly donating toys to area children hospitalized over the holidays. Who received the last gift you gave? A friend in my church small group.
5) Dean was extremely claustrophobic and avoided elevators whenever possible -- and even when it wasn't. He was late for the first night of an engagement, even though he was staying at the hotel where he was performing, because he insisted on taking the stairs from his luxury suite to the showroom (18 flights). The hotel put him in a smaller, less prestigious room on a lower floor so he could more easily arrive on time for his own shows. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator? Yes, a couple of times. The Museum's elevator (where I worked for 20 years) broke down pretty regularly. I was usually the one calling the elevator company but did get stuck several times over the years.
6) He and Frank Sinatra were great friends, but they had their differences. For example, Frank loved to party and Dean hated it. One of Sinatra's favorite stories was about how Dean got bored with a party in his own home and went up to his bedroom to watch TV. When the guests didn't take his hint and leave, Dean made an anonymous noise complaint to the police, who came over and broke up the party. When it comes to parties, are you more like Frank or Dean? Now especially, but I have always been more like Dean.
7) Dean Martin had a secret passion for comic books. He loved them but was too embarrassed to buy them himself. What's your guilty pleasure? I like my ice cream in the evening but I don't feel guilty about it!! LOL
8) In 1960, when this song was released, Princess Margaret married photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones. Their relationship began when he was commissioned to take her official portrait. Who took the most recent picture of you? Son Joey and/or Sparky's hubby, Steve.
9) Random question (Not really so random, considering Dean Martin's reputation): Do you have a hangover remedy to recommend? I do not. I have never been drunk so have not had a need for a hangover remedy. I've seen too many people making fools of themselves and then being sick... why is that enticing or attractive? I will say that I didn't live on a college campus and I was married at 19 so that probably made a difference in my temperance. Still, one drink is always enough if I have an alcoholic beverage.
Peace & hugs! Jesus loves us!
Lucy Update: She got on my lap last night and stayed while I made over her and told her how brave she is.

So happy to see the latest news on Lucy! That is so wonderful! And, like you, I got married at almost 19, straight from my parents' home to my new home with my hubby, and we were never party people (except for church parties) or drinkers. I had one bad experience as a "teen" that cured me for life. Praise God! I used to enjoy watching the Dean Martin show on TV. I miss the old variety/comedy shows like Carol Burnett, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Perry Como, etc. They were always very entertaining and fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Lucy is feeling more like herself:)
ReplyDeleteI am with Dean, not a partier...I would probably go upstairs and watch tv as well.lol Totally agree with you about alcohol. Fortunately, it has never appealed to me.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Lucy is doing better.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I'm happy that Lucy's better too! I've never been drunk either. An alcoholic drink puts me to sleep...not much of a party animal! hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Lucy's recovery is at a better stage now.
ReplyDeleteYour comments on drinking -- well said!
Hooray for Lucy! I do love my wine, Terri, but don't drink to excess.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
I enjoy a glass of vino now and then, too. But one is always enough.
DeleteYea for Lucy. I am so happy she is doing better.
ReplyDeleteI loved Dean Martin, Frank and the rest! Like Pam said, I miss the good old variety/comedy shows. Never saw any of the Oceans movies, but really should put that on my 'to-do' list. The only 'capers' film that comes to mind is 'Going in Style' -- I still LOL like a crazy lady in Depends every time.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I forgot to give a big hurrah to Lucy lady!
DeleteHow interesting. I grew up watching Dean and listening to Sinitra with my Mom. Great questions and answers.
ReplyDeleteI never knew that Dean Martin was claustrophobic. Poor guy. We all have our bugaboos, don't we? (Mine is dolls. Won't have one in my house.) In all the years I've ridden in elevators, never got stuck, thank goodness. Don't think I'd care for that.
ReplyDeleteThat particular photo was by Joey 'cause I am looking at Steve. *lol* He always gets my attention.
Hope your arm is looking better today.
Blessings. xx
I am so happy for you on your new job. How great that Lucy is doing well! Yay!! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

I'm glad Lucy is doing so well! I like the cast in the Ocean's remakes better than the originals, too. I wouldn't feel guilty about the ice cream, either. Have a great Sunday, Terri!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend... good news indeed.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the Oceans movies, but should look them up. I do know the song though.
ReplyDeleteI'm more like Dean too, would rather be home.
I've never been drunk either. I don't like the taste of alcohol, but will have a glass of wine occasionally.
Glad Lucy is coming along so well.
