The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 423

From this Side of the Pond

1. Something you've seen recently that's 'cuter than a June bug'?  Good golly!  Anything is cuter than the June bugs that have been found dead on my front steps these past few days!!  Nasty crunchy things!

2. Tell us something about where you were and what you were doing in June of 1988? If you weren't born yet, June of 1998. Or if that doesn't work, June of 2008.  June 1988 - Joe and I had been married three years.  We lived in Alexandria, Virginia.  I was working at the American Red Cross, District of Columbia Chapter, for Blood Services.  Just to cover all the bases, in both June 1998 and 2008, I was right here in Lakeland, FL, working for the Polk Museum of Art.

3. A place in your home or outdoor space where you feel 'snug as a bug in a rug'?  Right here in my recliner where I sit watching TV with my laptop on my lap (when there isn't a cat on my lap).  It is my 'nest'.

4. June is National Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Month. Do you normally get your 4-5 servings each day? What's a favorite summer dish you make/serve/like to be served-ha! made with one of your favorite summer fruits. A favorite summer dish made with a favorite summer veg? How do you feel about cooking in the summer months?   Cooking in the summer isn't much different from cooking in the winter here in Florida.  I do not get 4-5 servings of fruits & veggies each day, just because.  I LOVE corn on the cob and it is a spring/summer veggie here in Florida.  I can't even say strawberries because they are ripe in February/March but strawberry shortcake is a favorite made with fresh fruit!

5. Do you have a summer reading list? If so share a title or two we can add to our own.  No, I don't have a summer reading list - or any reading list, for that matter.  I have many, many books on my Kindle and just read whatever strikes my fancy next.  Right now I am reading a series of 10 cozy mysteries that have been entertaining and easy reads.  The Apple Orchard Mysteries series by Chelsea Thomas.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I mentioned a while back that one of my electric recliner's motor died.  They are insured so the repairman came and said the parts would need to be ordered and it might be 30-45 days.  I called last week to get an update and they told me that the parts are not available anymore and that they will give me full credit at Haverty's for BOTH recliners since they are matching!

Haverty's called to tell me my replacement credit is there and I can come in to pick out two new recliners.  The pickle is that I will need to match the "matching" loveseats and have a feeling it won't be easy.  I am not getting electric again, now that my knees are fixed and working so much better.  I will keep you posted.  It will be a week or so before I can get in there to deal with it.  I told the saleslady who called that I would come after church on the 20th.  I have pictures to show her and hope they have something that will work. Sigh.  It's always something.

Peace & hugs, dear friends!  Jesus loves us!!

  1. What a bother, the situation with your recliners!!! Thanks for sharing this. I will be leery of motorized furniture as a result of your experience.

June Bugs -- I don't know what they are. I'll look that up. Not sure I've seen any here.

  2. Oh, yes, Terri, it's always something, isn't it? But how wonderful that Haverty's will extend that replacement offer to you. Hope you can find chairs to match what you already have.
    Blessings!

  6. I know it will be a bit aggravating, but I'm impressed you are able to get credit for brand new. Sometimes it does pay to get that insurance : ) Good luck finding what you need.

  7. It really is always something! Only advice I would consider on the recliners - - - maybe it is because I am shorter - - - but the handles to release the foot rest on the recliner started to bother my shoulder. I have enjoyed our electric recliner. However the motor quit on Bill's a while back.

  8. What an outstanding offer! (Haverty's, I mean.) Your experience has sure taught me the importance of buying that insurance. "My" non-electric recliner/love seat broke again so until we find a local repair person, I'm using the other side -- much to Macie Ann's dismay. Isn't it funny how each of us have 'our' favorite sites to plop?

    1. The insurance company is called Guardsman so Haverty's is getting paid by the insurance company. I'm just glad we bought the insurance policy and there is one year to go!

  9. What a shame about the recliners but I'm glad Haverty's made it right. May I suggest not being concerned about getting them exactly the same. As long as they look good together, it's OK. I've started doing that with our furniture as they wear out and I kinda like it. That way things don't look so monochromatic and my stress level is down. Just my opinion. *grin*
    Love & Blessings. xx

  10. I could not agree more about the June bugs. They used a swarm behind our back door and you couldn’t even go outside without him getting your hair attacking you. I said about your recliner, but wow, that’s wonderful that Havertys is taking care of it. I hope you find exactly what you need.

    1. Sorry. I talked my answer into the iPad and it didn’t understand me completely. Corrections:
      They used to swarm
Without them getting in your hair and attacking
      How sad about your recliner
      😞

  11. No June bugs up here that I know of.

I laughed at that little video! Yes, it IS always something! We're still putting up with just a window air conditioner since we had that flooding issue in April. We finally got the insurance money and we're going to be getting a heat pump instead of having our central air unit repaired. Hoping they can soon get it installed.

  12. I'm glad to hear they are going to replace your recliners and hope you can find something to match your loveseats. I have insurance on our power reclining loveseat with the same promise that they will replace it if they can't fix it, so good to know the insurance came through. I like the power recline because I just could not close the old recliners. I had to get up and kick them all the way shut. However, I think my next seat will be a regular sofa or chairs with ottomans or maybe a sofa with a chaise on one end. I hope all is going well with the job and you're having a good week!

  15. We almost bought our couches from Haverty's but ended up finding a better deal elsewhere. Good to know they have such good service.
