The Wednesday Hodgepodge!

A big thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge! You can join in right HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 424

1. What's something that reminds you of your grandmother?  Well, I had three grandmothers.  Red Mohair/(step)Grandma Cameron; Cheddar Cheese & Fried Chicken/Granny Kelly;  Kool-aid Popsicles/Grandma James.  Tell us why.

Grandma Cameron gave me a red mohair sweater for Christmas when I was in Junior High and I felt SO grown up wearing it! Loved that sweater!  Just like this...

Granny Kelly made the best fried chicken ever and she always had a block of cheddar cheese in the fridge when I visited because she knew I loved it.

Grandma James always had Tupperware popsicles made in the freezer when we visited - but we couldn't have them in the living room where they might melt on the carpet.  Anyone else remember these?

2. Is your life currently more 'moonlight and roses' or a little more 'every rose has its thorn'? Elaborate.  Oh gosh, neither one for me.  Life isn't all moonlight and roses now but it also isn't thorny, either.  Let's do rose petals softening the way...

3. June 23rd is National Pink Day...favorite thing you own in any shade of pink?  I have a pink t-shirt that I like to wear.  A favorite thing found in nature in any shade of pink?  Any kind of pink flower!  Your favorite pink food or beverage?  Pink lemonade.  Your favorite shade of pink?   I love pink, but especially a really soft and muted pink...

4. Last thing that had you 'tickled pink'?  Getting my new job!

5. What are two or three words that describe your style.  Casual and comfortable.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I mentioned it in another blog, but I am really enjoying the HBOMAX series, Treme'.  It is set in New Orleans a few weeks after Katrina (season two is a year later...).  Some tough things, some rough language, but great music, some great musicians, and a good line-up of actors.  I love New Orleans and have been four times.  This show makes me want to go back soon!  Katrina was, what, nearly 16 years ago now.  I was last there six years ago. Have you been?  This is my favorite New Orleans picture...

Peace & hugs!
Jesus loves you and me!

  2. Love the picture of Joe. You were blessed to have many happy memories together. Your grandmothers all sound pretty wonderful and sweet. I do remember the tupperware popsickle things. We used to have some and we made koolaid popsickles or orange juice popsickles, or a combinate of the two. They were fun. I am not a big "pink" fan, having been a redhead I stayed away from pinks and reds. But I do love pink flowers and other dainty things. Never been to New Orleans...just never appealed to me. We did go visit friends in Mississippi on the gulf not long after Katrina, and things were such a mess. They took us on a ride to show us a lot of damage, and it was really heart breaking. They were very blessed to have survived without a lot of damage. Have a wonderful day. I always enjoy visiting with you.

    1. Stay away from Bourbon Street and enjoy the food, the history, and the music. There is so much more to New Orleans than wild crazies on Bourbon Street.

  5. The beignets look so good and Joe too. I remember those Tupperware popsicles! I think of homemade biscuits and standing by my Grandma Blackmon as she made them and Vanity Fair. She worked there and that makes me think of her. I think of Avon, lunchroom and the school bus when I think of step Grandma Hall (my other had died before I was born) because she sold Avon, and worked in the cafeteria and drove a schoolboy. Loved both of them so much. Now, I am wishing I had those beignets for breakfast:)

  6. What a great picture of Joe! Reminds me of a favorite movie line, "it's the laughter we will remember, when we remember the way we were." I don't recall too much about my grandmothers, but then we lived many hundreds of miles away. Love your response to #2!

  7. Terri, I enjoyed reading your responses. I remember those Tupperware popsicles. I wonder where my Gram's set went (probably the landfill somewhere). Have a good Wednesday!

  10. I've only been to New Orleans once and enjoyed it. Definitely remember those popsicles. I had a set when my girls were little and might try to find some for my grandsons when they're here. That red sweater is still trendy!

  11. That's funny 'cause I have zero desire to go to New Orleans. Guess it's that judgment is clouded by what I've heard about Bourbon Street. There are other areas to visit, of course, but I'm not a fan of Southern Louisiana at all. Northern Louisiana is much, much different. Now Texas ... that's a whole novel of fun times right there. *giggle*
Those Keto Orange Creamsickles recipe I shared recently I make in little plastic popsickle things like that. Got them from IKEA. They're not as nicely made as Tupperware but they'll do.
What a sweet picture of Joe. I wish y'all had had more time together.
Love & Prayers My Friend xx

  12. I do remember the Tupperware popsicles. That’s a great picture of Joe. I’ve been to New Orleans once the summer after I graduated high school. Loved it. We also drove through 2 years ago when we were traveling from Florida to Houston, TX but did not stop.

  14. It's been so so long since I've been in blogland, but I'm very glad to see you here, Terri! I do remember those Tupperware popsicle makers. The ones I have are not Tupperware, but are a lot bigger (like all food portions seem to be a lot bigger these days. LOL I would love to visit New Orleans, especially in light of America's Civil War history. The movie 'Double Jeopardy' had me wanting to track down that cemetery! Blessings on you and Joe.

  15. Yes, I remember those plastic popsicle makers, Terri. I actually used them for my own kids back in the day. And that beautiful sweater would have made me feel grown up, too. Such a great picture of Joe . . .
    Love to you!
