Monday's Weekend Recap...

Friday, right after work, Cheryl (Helen's niece) and I met with an auctioneer at Helen's house to talk about him buying everything in the house.  We have a contract with Treasure Hunters (as mentioned previously) but the husband had to have open-heart surgery and that pushed our sale into September or later so she offered us the name of an auctioneer who she trusts and has worked with numerous times.  He was very nice and will come this week (on two days) to load up the furniture and dishes, etc.  He offered a sum that was less than we hoped for but was kind of expected.  We are both okay with it and neither of us wants to do a sale on our own.

Friday evening, I met good friends Shirley and Heather for dinner. We enjoyed catching up and Heather told us that come fall, she will be moving to Virginia to be closer to her kids who are settling there.  We are happy for her.  Our little dinner group of six has now dwindled to two, though we do have a few more months with Heather here before she leaves.

Speaking of Heather, she has three cats and volunteers in the cat room at the SPCA.  She offered to come over on Saturday to help me gather Lilly and Vinny into their carriers so I could take them to the Vet for their annual shots and check-ups.  She came and we made quick order of it and got the two cats captured and caged with little or no anxiety.  Hooray!  They got their shots, got their nails trimmed, and were given a good report.  Lucy goes next month for her shots. They didn't want to do them now with her surgery just a few weeks ago.

Sunday School and Church were both good yesterday. I love my church and my fellow worshippers are more and more like family. After services, I went to Helen's house to meet a realtor who will handle the sale of Helen's house for us.  I should hear from him today or tomorrow about numbers.  Once the house is empty, I will hire a cleaning company to go in and clean it.  I told the Realtor that I won't be spending any of Helen's money on upgrades or painting, etc.  Selling as-is and the new owners can do their thing.

Tonight I am meeting a friend from church, Diana, for dinner at Glory Days.

Thanks for your visit today!

Peace & hugs!
Jesus loves you and me!

  1. You are getting close to having Helen's affairs done. I know that will feel so good. There is a verse in Proverbs that says friends come friends go. That is true in so many ways. Hopefully with each move someone new will move in to fill the gaps. Have a good day!

  3. If we lived closer, I would like to go to your Church. Sounds like such a nice place. Ours keeps getting smaller and smaller because of an aging congregation. Seems like young folks don't "do" Church anymore. Pity. They sure missing out.
I hope all of Helen's doin's work out to her benefit. You're a true friend to take care of everything for her during her declining years. May God bless you richly for that.
    Love & Prayers. xx

  4. My sister and I had an auctioneer do for our mother's things just as you are with Helen's. Not a money-maker, but it's still a way to get somebody to pay you for carting everything out. We were satisfied.

You are getting much done and so capably. Blessings on this new week for you!

  7. I commend you with dealing with Helen...we are in the discussion phase right now with this ourselves (dealing with mother in law etc.). Since we are the conservators and health proxy, unfort. these things have to be done. ANYWAYS, sending you lots of love and hugs, Terri. I know "as is" houses here are selling like hotcakes here. Her house will surely go fast, my friend. smiles

  10. Glad to hear things are moving along nicely with Helen's real property. Interesting to learn how these estate sales/auctioneers do things ... v. families having to parcel out one's belongings. God bless them -- and you, too!

  14. I am trying to get caught up here. You really have accomplished so much regarding Helen and her estate issues. How wonderful that the auctioneer will take care of everything in the house. I know they don't give as much as one would hope, but when you consider that they will do all the packing up and moving out, it's worth it. You don't have to do a thing. And since you are not so emotionally involved with her things, it is easier to let it go that way. I pray her house will sell quickly and that things will all be settled. How is Helen doing, btw? I am so glad you have such good friends, both at church and in your neighborhood and community. And that trip you want to take someday sounds wonderful (I think that's on another post. I was reading through all of them that I missed). I would love to do the same kind of trip, but can't talk hubby into driving like that, so it probably won't happen...but I'd sure love to do the same thing someday. Would you be comfortable doing all that long of a trip by yourself? You are braver than I am! Well, I hope you have a great day. I'm glad I got caught up on your "news".

  15. I'm really glad that things are coming to a closure for Helen's house and belongings. What an incredible blessing you are!

Regarding church - I was just thinking how good it is that you and Joe had already done the "church shopping" and had time to get settled in before he passed away. A church family is so vital!
