The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for today's Hodgepodge!!  You can join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 398

From this Side of the Pond

1. What do you think it means to have the holiday spirit? I think it means different things at different stages of your life. Right now it is taking joy in holiday decorations, memories of past Christmases, delighting in being alive and being well in this crazy 2020, counting blessings instead of presents...

2. What's one thing you've baked this month? Have you eaten the finished product? How much baking do you do around the holidays? What baked sweet something does your family insist is on the menu during this season of the year?  It is only December 8th (at this writing) so I haven't baked anything yet this month but I do have plans for cookies this month. I will give some away and we will pig out on the rest.

3. Your most recent 'half-baked' idea?  I've had many in my life but can't think of anything half-baked in recent weeks.

4. Where were you the last time you 'baked' in the sun? The top ten sunniest destinations in the world (most sun from January-December according to this site) are Dubai, Bali Indonesia, Los Angeles CA, Miami FL, Barbados, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, Mauritius, Antiqua, and the Canary Islands Spain. Have you been to any of the cities listed?  Yes, I have been to Miami, FL.  Which one on the list appeals to you the most?  None of them, really, but our nephew-in-law is from Barbados and it looks lovely.  If the world were not upside down crazy and you could lie on a beach anywhere right now where would you go?  Just over to one of the Gulf beaches.  They are beautiful and I don't have to travel far to get there!

5. Today I wish I had more motivation to do pretty much anything. Ha!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Our wonderful new neighbor, Susan, called this morning to see if we had any 'hazardous' things we were saving up to take to the dump.  She was making the trip with paint cans and offered to take anything we had that needed to go.  What a nice thing to offer!!  We have some great new neighbors!! I should add that the dump is about 20 miles away.

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves you!!

  2. We have lots of beaches here in NJ. On Black Friday we walked a little on the beach. Didn't bake in the sun though since it was cloudy and cool.
That was very nice of your neighbor.
    Have a great day!

  3. I've always baked cookies at Christmas, but not sure if I will do so this year as it is only us, and we will surely eat too many of them - LOL! And that was such a kind gesture from your neighbor, Terri. It's great to be surrounded by caring people.
    Blessings!

  4. I haven't baked this month either. I think I just might bake some cookies today. You sparked a desire. The Gulf beaches are some of the prettiest in the world in my opinion. We are lucky to live so close.

  5. What a great neighbor. We have an old natural gas canister that is sitting in the garage. I need to find out where we can take it. As for the sun, I try to avoid it these days. I will be doing some Christmas treats to share with the kids and grands.

  7. Thoughtful neighbors are such a blessing. Mine often phones when she's headed to Costco or Trader Joes to see if I need anything, since both of those places are a fair distance. I had to stash some of my cookies in the freezer downstairs. Having them in the kitchen was way to tempting and convenient : )

  8. Perfect response to #1, Terri! I'd be mighty miserable were it not for my memories.
Aside from one of our Gulf beaches, I'm not pining to see any of these destinations. Considering current events, that's probably a good thing.

  9. How nice of your new neighbor to already be so neighborly! Of course, I know you've already been pretty neighborly to her already as well. Your neighborhood sounds so very friendly and fun. I am so happy for you and Joe to be there! Baking? It's too soon. They will just get eaten up. But we usually do bake cookies for the family. I should say Scott bakes cookies. I hope he has time this year. I may back some orange cranberry nut bread or something like that to give to a few people. I may try Nanny's fruitcake again! It brought us some good new friends to visit last time! Remember?? Have a blessed month and just relax and don't sweat the small stuff.

  11. I think you have good neighbors because you and Joe are good neighbors!
I made chex mix yesterday. I'm not such a fan, but it's one of Bob's favorite things.
