The Wednesday Hodgepodge!!

A big thank you to our hostess, Joyce, for today's Hodgepodge!! Join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 399

From this Side of the Pond
1. What's something about Christmas that most people like, but you don't?  I'm not fond of store-bought fruit cake, but I don't think anyone is (homemade is usually yummy) so I can't really think of anything else.  Elaborate.   Nothing to elaborate on.

2. Tell us about one cherished tradition from your childhood and if you'll make it happen this year?  Because I was the oldest of four kids, even into my teens I cherished the surprise of Santa gifts under the tree on Christmas morning.  We won't be making that happen this year and haven't for many years. Maybe there will be great-grandchildren someday and we can get back to that.

3. In 1941 FDR declared December 15th Bill of Rights Day. Citizens were encouraged to fly the flag and gather for prayers and other ceremonies as appropriate. Did you know this? Will you fly a flag? Can you name all the rights and protections guaranteed in the first ten amendments of the US Constitution? Of the ten, which two do you value most? If you need a list you'll find one here.   They are ALL very important, especially the first five.  If I have to choose just two, I'll take #1...freedom to worship, and #2 ... right to bear arms.

4. Do you know someone named Bill?  My ex-husband.  Tell us something about him?  I will pass since I haven't seen him in years nor do I really know who he is today.   Is there a famous 'Bill' you'd like to meet?  Bill Engvall, the comedian who does "Here's your sign".

5. A step in the right direction, on the right track, bragging rights, be in the right place at the right time, get off on the right foot, right as rain, right side up, give your right arm for, have one's heart in the right place...choose a 'right' that applies to your life in some way in recent days and tell us how it's so.  Well, I am right on track now for Christmas to happen! The shopping is done, gifts are almost ready to deliver, the one that had to be mailed has been mailed.... feeling pretty good about the holiday coming up. I am ready to sing carols at church on Christmas Eve and prepare a nice meal on Christmas Day.  I am also already thinking ahead about New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.  Right on track!!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  You know, I just want to say that I am so very blessed by so much! Each of you reading this today is included.  With so much sadness and grief all around, I still count my blessings and am so thankful for my faith and this wonderful season.  Merry Christmas!!

Peace & hugs!!  Jesus loves you!!

  1. I read #1 completely WRONG on the question! (ole age kicking in).
Freedom of religion and the right to protect myself was on my list.
    Merry Christmas to you!

  2. I like the rights you mentioned here, Terri, but I'm also more and more attached to freedom of speech, which seems to be eroding beneath our feet. I'm not all set for Christmas as I'm awaiting the arrival of two gifts for Danny, and the stamps we ordered so I can get the Christmas cards mailed. Yours may arrive late, my friend, and I apologize about that!
    Blessings!

  3. I agree with your choices of rights and although I get real tired of hearing an opposing viewpoint, I hope we don't give up the right to free speech.
I am almost finished with my present and wrapping, even the hard to wrap ones that I procrastinate on. Yes, there are many reasons to know we are blessed even in a hard year.

  5. It's always fun to read your answers, Terri. Sounds like you have a good handle on Christmas. I am done except for one gift that I have to finish up. xo Diana

  6. I miss the kids home for Christmas too. But we at least try to video opening gifts together. That helps.

I agree with you on feeling blessed by our Blogger friends.

  7. I've been thinking lately that I remember only two Christmases as a child that we received gifts. I'm sure my parents must have given us small things - we were a large family. The main event I remember, that to me was "Christmas," was going to my paternal grandparents' house for a huge family gathering. I was always so excited to see my Witmer cousins.

  8. I totally agree with you about the amendments. Those would be my picks, too. Oh, Bill Engvall would be a hoot to meet! He's the only one of the Blue Collar guys I still like a lot. Larry is rather filthy minded (and mouthed) and even Jeff Foxworthy seems to be a lot more crude in his shows. I have a fair amount done for Christmas and am not feeling stressed. It's taken years, but I've learned what gets done is fine and what doesn't get done...probably nobody but me will even notice. I hope you're having a wonderful week, Terri! We're getting snowed in up here today.

  9. I'm sooo looking forward to having great-grandchildren to spoil! The only carols being sung here are those led by Alexa, but that's better than nothing.

  10. Yes, those freedoms are most important, and I agree with Martha Orlando about freedom of speech. That is definitely being snuffed out (if you happen to be conservative) and that is a great concern. I am NOT ready for Christmas...still shopping...haven't done any wrapping. I know I procrastinated too long this time, but it will get done, and if it doesn't, well, we'll still celebrate Christmas. Thankfully our kids are all adults and they aren't too picky. We just enjoy being together. I would just like to play with the train...LOL. Merry Christmas!!!

  11. No fruitcake for me either!
Good answer on the Bill of Rights.
I agree - so many blessings and you are surely one of them!

  12. We have to choose to see our blessings I think, particularly in difficult times. Maybe we look a little harder then as opposed to when life is rolling right along. I'm feeling caught up with the wrapping, baking, and menu planning, but there are a lot of things on my wedding to-do list still! Merry Christmas!
