It's Hodgepodge Time...

Thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for this week's Hodgepodge!  Join in HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 388

From this Side of the Pond

1. When is the last time you experienced nostalgia?  Over the last few days, I have been looking at old photos and they have made me feel somewhat nostalgic.  Isn't it wonderful to have photos!!  This one is me with my daddy a very long time ago (the mid-70s). Not a good print because it's from a slide.  Taken in our backyard, in Millersport, Ohio.

 2. September 29th is National Coffee Day. Do we need this?  Of course! Ha! So are you a coffee drinker?  Yes. If so how many cups per day, and tell us how you like it. Is there a recipe you enjoy that calls for coffee as one of the ingredients?   These days I only have one cup a day and I can drink it black or with sweet cream.  I do not have a recipe that calls for coffee.  There was a time when I was 'addicted' to coffee and would get a migraine without it in my system.  When working, I would drink two or three cups a day. Now (shock) I can take it or leave it, actually.

 3. Do you find praise or criticism to be more motivating? Explain.  I don't accept praise well.  I do learn from criticism if it is given constructively.   I don't know that I am motivated by praise or criticism though I do try to always do my best and pay attention.

 4.  What's a television series you keep coming back to and re-watching? We re-watched 'John Adams' three times; we re-watched the Sopranos twice; we re-watched 'Peaky Binders' twice.  I'm sure there are more...

 5. As the month of September draws to a close give us three words to describe your mood.  Cautiously, warily optimistic.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.  Some of our community's winter residents are beginning to arrive!  It is nice to have friends coming back.  Things get a little more lively when our snowbird friends are here!  Joe and I are picking up a couple from New York (up-state) who live right down the street from us.  MJ and Ernie are flying into Tampa this afternoon.  They leave a car here so they can fly back and forth.  MJ is the woman who crocheted our name and gifted it to us last year...

Thanks for popping in today!
Your visits and comments are appreciated!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!
(Good-bye to September)

  1. I love coffee but mainly just have it in the morning to get my engine started. I do have a cappuccino cake recipe that uses coffee. It is a chocolate cake with a mocha flavor..yum. Love your crocheted piece. I have one like that in my dining room that my aunt crocheted for us.

  4. I love coffee and could literally drink it all day. I only drink it black though. I now only drink decaf and have to remind myself to stop and drink my water. I love the three words you chose. I don't think I could have done that better. I am always sort of nostalgic but I don't live in the past.

  5. Whatever would I do without my coffee??? I drink two cups, at least, in the morning, and will then have one glass of iced coffee in the afternoon. Every day is a celebration day for coffee in the Orlando Compound!
    Blessings, Terri!

  6. We love the John Adams movie too but it sure is sad and I always cry. Just thinking about her talking about her youngest son makes me cry right now. Enjoy your day and this gorgeous weather!

  7. We haven't watched Peaky Blinders but a neighbor said they really liked it so maybe that will be up next. Just finished Yellowstone so we need something new. Enjoy your day!

    1. It is very good, Joyce, but (like most these days) has language, tough situations, blood, and nudity.

  9. I love the picture of you and your dad. I am so thankful to have photos by which to remember my loved ones, and because of the huge collection of ancestral photos I have, I can even "meet" ancestors long gone. My son has been recommending Peaky Blinders. Gary and I have to check it out. We will soon be in need of something new---we binged DCI Banks and finished it up last month, then started When Calls the Heart. 4 more episodes and we will be current on that. So it is time to discover a new show.

  11. I remember those picture slides. My aunt had a slide projector and would show up pictures from when we were little. We would get so excited!
    Have a great week :)

  15. Oh ya, 'olden' photographs are great triggers. I, too, have difficulty accepting praise ...wondering if its genuine. Picking up your friends is sure a sweet gesture; I hope you were able to enjoy a yummy lunch along the way!

  16. Your anwer to #5 is the best!
Guess what came in the mail today? John Adams! Now we need to find time to watch it. We have a busy schedule with something each night until next week, so it won't be right away. We're both looking forward to it and I'll report back to you. :)

  17. Trying to stay optimistic in 2020 has been a challenge. God is still in control and everything is going to be okay, some day. Until then, pray and vote. That's about all we can do, oh, let's not forget to enjoy the good things because there is still a lot of it!!

  18. Yes, we can be cautiously optimistic that things will be back to normal soon.
Tampa is a lovely area. My cousin lives there. I may need to visit her this winter when the snow arrives. That is sweet of you to pick up your snow bird friends.

  19. Cautiously, warily optimistic. Yeah that's certainly understandable. I watched part of the debate last night and had to walk away. On Instagram I'm getting messages, "If you support X, unfollow me NOW." There's so much vitriol out there. Makes me sad that it's come to that.

    1. We didn't even watch because we knew what it would be. Sigh. Trump is still my choice.
