The Ding-a-Ling Wednesday Medley...

I seem to be falling into a pattern by starting each Medley with a question about a National Day so this one won't be any different!!


1. National Ding-a-Ling Day is observed across the United States each year on December 12. Ding-a-Lings on this day call the people they haven’t heard from in a while. It may be an old classmate, co-worker or neighbor from years ago. Or perhaps a call will go out to the child who used to mow the grass during the summer. How about that couple who carpooled for soccer. There are all sorts of people in our lives who manage to slip out of our lives who would love to hear the ding-a-ling of a call from you or me. So tell us who you want to call today!  Oh gosh, I am in touch with so many folks from my past on Facebook so I'm not sure who I would like to ding-a-ling a call to. Perhaps my old friend Nancy, who rode in my carpool every day and was one of my bride's maids when Joe and I got married. We both worked for the American Red Cross Blood Services (Lynn too). Nancy was the Director's secretary. I found her online once and then lost the email connection. I have no idea where she is now. She is standing far left. I'm still in touch with Lynn (middle girl). 
 

2. Each year on the 12th day of December, people across the United States recognize National Poinsettia Day. I am including this "National Day" too because my neighbor's poinsettia from last year is blooming beside their house!! Have you ever tried to plant a poinsettia outside?





About 10-15 years ago, I planted the eight poinsettias that lined our sidewalk before Christmas, in our backyard (our other house) and those plants grew into a really big bushy plant. It was huge and it did bloom just before Christmas that next year. Then we got a freeze and it died in one day. I'm terrible with plants and didn't even think to cover it to protect it from the frost. They do grow well in our sandy soil though.


3. Do you believe in Bigfoot? What size shoe do you wear and do you have trouble shoe shopping? Ha! I don't believe in a Bigfoot ape-like creature, but let me tell you... I have a BIG foot and I do have trouble shoe shopping! I wear a ladies' size 12 and most times end up in the men's department looking for something that would pass for a woman's shoe... and there are some! I wear a men's 10 or 11. The plus about that is that men's shoes are usually less expensive than women's! My grandpa told me once that "...you can't build a castle on a foundation only fit for a chicken coop"!! 

4. What is one thing you refuse to share? My toothbrush!!

5. Are you finding that this Christmas is stressful? More or less than last year? Christmases are not stressful for me anymore. We have reduced the number of gifts we buy for people. We don't by for siblings anymore. Our grandchildren are all grown up and prefer gift cards, and one of our boys and his wife don't celebrate Christmas and the other and his girlfriend just like doing Harry & David's baskets (etc.) so no serious shopping. As for Christmas dinner and baking... I enjoy doing that and don't stress about it at all.

6. Tell us something random about your week so far! I got my first paycheck from my new part-time job. Makes it all worthwhile! The doc and his wife are taking a vacation until the day after Christmas so I am out of work now until December 26th. Not crazy about giving up all those hours, but it is what it is and I am happy for some extra days before Christmas to just chill and enjoy the season. They even gave me a nice little Christmas bonus after only two weeks of work. That was unexpected and very nice. Their Christmas card even had birthday greetings in it for me. Speaking of my birthday, I was treated to lunch yesterday by one of my former co-workers from the museum and several others joined us. Then I popped in at the museum and got hugs and birthday wishes from everyone else I saw. Joe had the Happy Birthday banner out when I got home and he took me out for a quick dinner. I think I'll be celebrating all week... lots of freebie coupons to collect on, here and there!! Always fun. Of course, I've had FB messages, text messages and phone calls too. Blessed. I am so blessed.
