Thankful Thursday Link-up...

Thursday is the day we link-up with Rebecca Jo at Knit By God's Hand for her Thankful Thursday meme!  You can join in HERE!  Rebecca Jo was in the hospital this week and I haven't seen on FB that she got home yet. Prayers continue for her!!

I apologize for monopolizing my blog with health concerns and doctor appointments these past few weeks. My sisters read my blog and my BFFs read my blog and I count on my Prayer Warriors here, too, so bear with me as I record too much information.  Feel free to pass this by or jump to the bottom. No worries!!

I am thankful for our primary care doctor, Dr. Asuncion, at the Watson Clinic, and her nurse, Debbie.  Debbie got both of us in to see her.  She took care of Joe first, then turned her attention to me.  She opted to send me away without more antibiotics. She is sure I am at the end of the virus and just need to tough out the next days. She DID want to make sure that I didn't have pneumonia, so sent me down for a chest x-ray. Since I didn't hear back that she had indeed called in medicine, I'm assuming that the x-ray was okay. Debbie said they would probably see them before we got home.

Now for Joe and his hip and leg pain. The Docs first concern was that there could be a stress fracture of his hip. She didn't rule out sciatica but didn't think that was his problem.  She ordered x-rays for him too, so we both found ourselves in gowns getting pictures taken this afternoon. She also had Debbie get him in to see an orthopedic doc, who had an opening at 3:00, so after the x-rays, we headed home for some lunch and then for the other side of town to the ortho doc.

The x-rays did not show a stress fracture but DID show "really bad" arthritis in Joe's back and moderate arthritis in his hip joint.  He put Joe on the exam table and manipulated his leg and hip every which way, then started pressing in different places.  The worst pain came from the bursa pocket, just under the hip joint.  He put a shot of (cortisone, we guess) into his hip.  That needle was at least three inches long... bless his heart, Joe didn't even say ouch.  The relief had not kicked in yet, but we are hopeful for today.  The doctor is also referring Joe to a pain management doctor who will be able to do injections in his back that should give him some good relief from the arthritis pain in his back.  Please, God!!

We feel thankful and blessed that the root of the pain has been discovered and that there is something that can be done for it (other than surgery!).

So, on to labs and an appointment with the pulmonary doctor today.  In between, I have a facial appointment with Dawn.  Hope I can keep from coughing for my hour of bliss in her chair!

I am thankful if you made it this far!! Thanks for being my friend!!  Peace & hugs!!

  4. I think it is hard when we so looked forward to our "golden years" only to have them riddled with health issues. I hope you have a good day and that you both feel much, much better by the weekend. xo Diana

  7. We want to know what is going on Terri so we can pray effectively...thanks for the update. I do hope Joe gets some relief. Chronic pain is so debilitating.. Glad you are at the end of your virus. It seems to take longer for us older folks to shake things. ( See my blog today!) I am just starting to feel back to my old self after my injury.:)

  10. Oh Terri, please don't concern yourself with thoughts about 'monopolizing' your blog with health concerns! God knows the details ... but I agree with Arlene's opener. That's what friends are for!

I hope your respite with Dawn was blissful!

  11. Bless your heart...you both have been through so much lately...and of course we WANT to know so we can pray for you! That is why we are all here for one another...not just to tell each other how nice our blogs are, but to truly care for one another and pray for our friends here. That is who we are...friends...and friends care for one another. So, stop worrying about saying too much. we'd be hurt if you didn't!!!

  12. Don't apologize - it's what's going on with you two right now and we want to know, and we need to pray!
So glad they found the cause for Joe's pain. Hope that cortisone really works quick.

  13. Terri, don't apologize for letting us know what is going on. We need to pray and your posts keep it before us. I am sorry that it is taking so long for you to get over your cold, but am thankful that you do not have pneumonia. Thankful also that Joe is getting help with his pain. I had a lot of inflamed bursa last fall and those shots really too the pain away, but I still had to have surgery. Our prayers are with you both.
