The 350th Hodgepodge!! Wow!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 350

We've somehow hit volume 350 here today. That feels like something doesn't it?  It does indeed!  Raise your hand if you've been in the HP since the early days.  I had to look back through the archives and found my first Hodgepodge was June 26, 2013.  I had not used the Volume number to be able to do a countdown, but almost five years of Wednesday Hodgepodges is a lot!!
Thank you, Joyce!! You are amazing!!

1. April showers bring May flowers or, so the saying goes. Is there a flower you associate with a particular memory?
I guess it would probably be lilacs.  Explain.  We had a lilac bush/tree in our backyard (when I was growing up) which was also just below the window in my bedroom. On cool spring nights, with the window open, it made my bedroom smell SO good.  To this day, I love lilacs!  They don’t grow in Florida.

2. Last time you helped someone?
Just a couple of days ago.  Tell us how. The sweetest elderly couple were walking toward the restaurant that Joe and I were getting ready to leave (Joe had gone to the restroom).  They were both stooped and the woman was having difficulty walking, but they were holding hands and urging each other along.  I saw them coming and opened the door for them.  They were just SO cute and were evidently regulars there because they were greeted by all the staff when they finally got through the door.

3. It's National Salsa Month (the food, not the dance) so tell us, do you like salsa?
I love Salsa!!  Hot, medium, or mild?  Yes, yes, and yes.  Homemade, store bought, or from your favorite restaurant only? Our son makes a delicious salsa, but I’ve not made it.  Store bought is good and so is our favorite Mexican restaurant’s.

4. When I was twelve years old...
I broke my arm trying to stand on my hands.  It required an overnight stay in the hospital because it had to be reduced in the operating room, under anesthesia.  My grandma bought me a new Barbie doll to make me feel better. My new Barbie had red hair and bendable legs (bendable legs were just out!).

5. It's the first of May so let's run with it-first things first, don't know the first thing about it, first dibs on something, first impression, first rate, first cousin, first string, first come first served, at first light-which phrase can best be applied to something in your life currently or even recently?
Perhaps first things first.  Joe and I are both going to our primary doctor today. I still haven’t shaken this cold and Joe can hardly walk so it is time to seek help from our doctor, who we trust completely. No more walk-in clinics.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I just want to ask again for your prayers for Joe.  He sees the pulmonary doctor tomorrow and our cardiologist on the 14th.  The sciatica pain has kept him grounded, which is probably a good thing, but the heart and shortness of breath are still our biggest concern and we know that surgery is coming. It’s a really big deal for us. Sobering.

Thanks again to Joyce for another fun Hodgepodge! You can find Joyce HERE if you would like to join in!

Thanks for your visit today!!  Peace & hugs!!

  2. I am not one bit surprised you opened the door for the elderly couple because your nature is kindness. I will definitely be praying for you and Joe and hoping the doctor can give some answers and help. Also will pray for his upcoming surgery.

  3. {{{Keeping you both in prayer}}}---I had my regular dr. check up Monday, we had words over a matter that she was trying to get me to do/ordering...I might change dr.'s.

  4. Terri, I am lifting you all up as you see your doctor today. I know you both are ready to feel better. When Marvin had Sciatica the dr gave him Gabapentin for the pain that that did help. It is just for nerve pain.

  5. How fortunate (that) you'd a lilac bush near your bedroom window! You're probably aware, lots of folks are incorporating lilac oil and powder on their bed linens to help promote sleep. I remember as a little kid pouring honey on the blossoms and eating them. ("All the other kids are doing it, Mom!")

This prayer warrior's still on your case!

  6. Thinking of both of you and best wishes for the desired result. Age isn't what it's cracked up to be I have found, but still can be a lot of fun. My cold went on for over 5 weeks, so if it is the same bug it is what it is.. Three antibiotics and it ended up healing itself I think. Probably a nasty virus.

  8. Glad to hear you've decided to visit your doctor. You both need to be as well as you can be to face Joe's upcoming surgery. I hope you get good advice/treatment. I know this is such a worrying time for you but so many of us have you in our thoughts and prayers. I hope it gives comfort because you deserve it with the way you always encourage and support others.

  13. I will certainly be keeping your hubs in my prayers. You too! I almost said lilacs for my answer today too. We had two huge lilac trees in our back garden in the UK. They were so pretty and the scent was amazing. Take care and keep us posted on how things go with the drs.

  17. Hi, I'm visiting from the Hodgepodge. I am from Florida too! We moved from there to Idaho in 2000, so I've been gone awhile. My husband is a native, and my in-laws still live there, so I do get back there on occasion. I am enjoying having lilacs here, since we didn't get them in Florida.

Oh, my, sciatic pain is excruciating. I had it back in 1995 and ended up having to have back surgery. Praying for your husband right now.

Oh, I loved Barbie! Many hours of happiness she brought me.

    Blessings,
    Patti

  18. I am so sorry to read of Joe's continuing health difficulties. I hope that he finds relief from all of his maladies. I hope you finally are able to rid yourself of your cold. Colds tend to be tenacious at this time of year. Thanks for your visit and for your comments.
