Joyce is back this week with our Wednesday Hodgepodge!! Thank you, Joyce, and know that I/we understand about needing some time with that sweet little boy! He is ADORABLE!!
Join in HERE and link-up with other Hodgepodgers to see how they answered these questions!
1. April is National Jazz Appreciation Month. Are you a fan? Yes and no. If so what's a favorite you'd recommend to someone new to jazz listening? I enjoy ‘smooth’ jazz (but NOT Kenny G!) and more of the old-timers. I don’t have any recommendations and will probably get some flack for not liking Kenny G. I prefer brass to woodwinds. Start out ‘smooth’. Even Alexa knows what smooth jazz means!
2. Mandolin, ukulele, harp, accordion or banjo...which would you be most interested in learning to play? Or do you already play one of the instruments listed? I used to play around with my brother’s guitar and knew a few chords. Harp is difficult and I’m too old for difficult now, but the ukulele might be fun! I love bluegrass, but the banjo isn’t easy either.
3. Do you judge a book by its cover? Elaborate. You may answer in either/both the literal or figurative sense of the word. Not so much anymore, since my books are all on my Kindle and I rarely see a cover - though the covers do tell you what you might expect inside. I won’t say that I never make a judgement based on what the cover looks like, because I do when scrolling through the freebies. Scantily clad women and handsome muscle-bound men with hokey titles don’t even cause me to slow down. I’m not into steamy romance novels.
4. According to a recent study the ten most nutritious foods are-almonds, cherimoya (supposed to taste like a cross between a pineapple/banana), ocean perch, flatfish (such as flounder and halibut), chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, swiss chard, pork fat (shocking! but I don't think they mean bacon), beet greens, and red snapper. Are any of these foods a regular part of your diet? Nope – not even when I am trying to be good, except for almonds. I do eat them. Any you've never ever tasted? I’ve never had cherimoya. Which would you be most inclined to add to your diet? I love fish and would eat it a couple of times a week, but Joe is not a seafood lover – not even a seafood liker. He will eat catfish and stuffed flounder and shrimp. That’s about it.

I had to see what a cherimoya looked like.
5. Besides a major holiday what is the most recent thing you've celebrated with your people? We have been celebrating with our northern friends who are all heading north this week and next. Tell us how. We just catch up with them for a nice visit and to wish them safe travels. I will miss them this year! Last year at this time I was still working, and we hadn’t really met so many people. This year is different, and I will feel their absence.
6. Insert your own random thought here. I’m sorry if you are tired of me writing about my Joe, but I did take him back to urgent care yesterday morning. This time we saw the doctor and he says it is a bad sinus infection/sinusitis and prescribed an antibiotic, some nasal spray and some codeine cough syrup. Sleep will hopefully come back, and coughing fits will go away!! I know many of you are keeping him in your prayers and I sure appreciate it!!
My friend, Shirley, did get to go home yesterday and the cancer cells were clear from around the tumor. She still needs to see an oncologist to determine further treatment, if any. Good news!!
Thanks for peeking in today! Thanks again to Joyce for this week's Hodgepodge! Peace & hugs for all!

First I never get tired of hearing about Joe, and pray his health will be better. I know what those old sinus infections, etc. are and the cough seems to last forever. I had never heard of that fruit either. I try really hard not to judge a book (or a person) by the cover....after all, it is what is inside that really counts. I pray today will be a good day for you both.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of that fruit either. Sad to hear Joe still isn't feeling better. Hoping the meds kick in and give him some relief fast.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Praying for Joe, and no, we aren't tired of hearing about him. We do care and we are praying. Glad he got some help with the cough, sinuses, etc. Miserable stuff! That cherimoya reminds me of the paw-paws that grow wild here...the seeds look very similar, and it has a banana-mango taste. Interesting! Not something I eat, but I did try it just to see what it was...the raccoons and bears can have it! LOL. I love fish, and would eat it more but I don't like to cook it and smell up the house! So I eat fish when we go out to eat. John likes shrimp and fish too, but again, that is our out to eat special most of the time. I read books that I trust the author, and if the back cover sounds interesting enough...I still check out real books from the library...not into e-books. I'm old fashioned and like the feel of the book in my hands. So thankful for a good public library!! Praying for you both. Take care and stay well. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteYes, still lifting Joe in prayer, Terri. Do keep us apprised of the situation!
ReplyDeleteMy MIL is back in the hospital. Would appreciate prayers for her.
Blessings!
Praying for her, Martha Jane.
DeleteAwww...poor Joe...keeping you all in prayer. I hope you have a lovely day friend.
ReplyDeleteMy kids give me grief because I do like Kenny G as well as other jazz. So glad Joe got some meds and hopefully he will be able to sleep. I know it is worrying when our hubbies are not feeling well.
ReplyDeleteI know you'll miss your snowbird friends. You are such a friendly, people-person.
ReplyDeleteHope Shirley improves and can move past this.
I am with you about jazz. And the harp is hard to learn. I try to eat 8 dark chocolate almonds every day - not a chore. The last family holiday for us was Christmas. I am glad your friends cells were okay. I do pray for Joe - he has had a time of it. sandie ♥
ReplyDeleteOh, thank God for Shirley's good news! Poor Joe must feel at his wit's end with that awful bark. Praying the codeine syrup will help relax his spasms.
ReplyDeleteI never used to be a fan of jazz, but (with the exception of Kenny G.) I'm enjoying most of what he plays on the sax. As a matter of fact, his cell number I've made to play Harlem Nocturne. (Not that I get that many calls I have to differentiate. LOL!)
"He" being Tom ... not Kenny. Sorry for the verbal detour!
DeleteYou can write about Joe as much as you like! Glad you got medication etc for him. Hope he's soon feeling better. Good news for your friend Shirley. Thanks for sharing the picture of the cherimoya. I think I'm less likely to try it now though! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm not sick of hearing about Joe! Please keep us updated!
ReplyDeleteI like New Orleans style jazz.
Thanks for sharing the phot of the cherimoya. I never heard of it, but it sounds good!
So sorry to hear about Joe's sinus infection. Those can be nasty and I am praying for his recovery. I'll add your friend Shirley to the prayer list also.
ReplyDeleteWe never tire of hearing about your sweet Joe! So thankful you took him on to the doctor again. Glad it was something as "simple" as a sinus infection. I forgot that they do produce a lot of coughing, too. The grandsons had that experience last winter.
ReplyDeleteIt is okay if you don't like Kenny G. You can't like everyone. Also please continue to keep us posted on Joe's health. We, that is I, do care and are interested. Good news indeed on Shirley's report.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if Philly beat Pittsburgh but the hockey talking heads don't think that it's going to happen.
Thanks for visiting my blog and for leaving a comment.
I certanly hope that Joe is better by now. It's no fun having a sick hubby.
ReplyDeleteIf you go read Betty's post (#29 on the list) you will learn a lot about the cherimoya. It was interesting. I hope your hubs is on the mend soon and has a plan for going forward with his health concerns. Hope you're having a nice restful weekend!
