It's time to link-up with Deb, over at Breathing In Grace, for her Friday Foto Friends. I have to confess that I have no new photos this week. I'm sorry that it has just been crazy busy at work and we haven't gone out again in the evening since Monday's dinner at BoneFish Grill. So, I went 'shopping' in my old photos and decided to share a few memories....
I grew up in a fishing family. Nothing fancy. Fresh-water (lake) fishing. My dad loved it so much that he built a pontoon boat in our backyard for us to use on weekends at Rocky Fork Lake, in Ohio, when I was very young. He rented a dock there and we had so many family weekends there with picnics and boating and swimming off the dock and, of course, fishing.
When we moved from Washington Court House, Ohio, to Millersport, Ohio, the boat moved to Buckeye Lake and our fun family times on the (new) lake just continued!
Summer vacations all during my high school years were at a fishing camp on Rice Lake in Ontario, Canada. More fishing and eating fish - lots of perch, bluegill, bass, sunfish, catfish....
When my folks retired, they bought a place in Florida and became snowbirds. The pontoon boat had long ago gone away, but Dad had a little fishing boat that he put on Lake Harris, near Leesburg, FL.
My dear dad, doing what he loved doing....
I know many of you have seen these before. I apologize for the repeats. I've been thinking about my dad lately and the fun we had as a family, out on the water. Even after my dad died, my brother's pontoon boat on Buckeye Lake became a great substitute....
Pontoon boats are so much fun!
Are any of you water babies? It seems like I've been around water all my life. I miss having a boat, but we're too old to start that now....plus they are expensive to dock, store, run..... I need to find someone who has a boat and likes to take people for rides!! LOL
Happy Friday!! I'm behind on reading blogs but will catch up. Peace & hugs!!!

One of the regrets of my life is that i never learned to swim. I made sure all of my children can swim because it is an important skill and a sport that you can enjoy your whole life.
ReplyDeleteArlene, my mom was also afraid of the water and couldn't swim. She made sure all of us had swimming lessons.
DeleteI love posts like this where you reminense. What sweet memories of growing up and all the fun you gave... and such a great Dad! If I'm counting right, only about 11 more work days? Are you x'ing them off the calendar? Hope you have a great weekend! Thanks for sharing your fotos today. ☺
ReplyDeleteDeb, it's really 10 because I used my last vacation day for Monday the 31st.
Delete10 more days...wow I can't believe it, already, Terri? I bet your counting the days. smiles
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing...have a beautiful day, friend.
I didn't grow up around boats. I live in a shore area and love to watch them. They look like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I grew up on Lake Harris, on the Tavares side of the lake! We didn't live right on the lake, but within a short walk. I learned to water ski (sort of) on that lake. Never was very good at it, however. My father wasn't really into boating, fishing, etc., so we depended on others to get out on the water. Where we live now there is water everywhere, but we still don't have a boat. I'm dreaming of having a "camp" type house on the water one of these days, and just a little boat or even a kayak to get out and enjoy the peace of it all. That's my dream...maybe it will come true some day.
ReplyDeleteMy introduction to central Florida was in Lake County where my folks lived in the winter months. I've been through Tavares many times. Small world!! :)
DeletePrecious memories warm our heart. Thanks for sharing with us!!
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to look back and remember fun days with family. I didnt grow up around water, but when a friend asked us to ride, we joyfully accepted and enjoyed. Like seeing your pictures, and wishing you a good weekend ahead.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, I didn't realize what I was missing! Tom, too, speaks fondly of summers spent on the water with his cousins and eating perch. (Never tried it, myself.) Now he's all excited about finding a little used fishing boat when we move. That's a big "we'll see"!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing these old pictures. I like that one of your Dad, I can just see that he's a sweet guy! We had friends with a big pool that we spent a lot of time in every summer, so we did a lot of swimming. We also went to the lake quite often!
ReplyDeleteBoth my parents had a fear of the water and so growing up, we just played around in splash parks and public pools. My husband had a boat and he taught me to waterski. So for the past 48 years or so, I have been around water and had boats. We finally gave the boat to our son and jet skis to our daughter, so now we rely on them for our boating fun. I don't mind your repeats at all. When I have my mind on somebody, I want to talk about and look at the old photos. Your dad looks good at the helm. I think it's neat he built a pontoon boat.
ReplyDeleteI can't say that I'm a water baby, but I do like living close enough to it to enjoy its benefits.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that your dad built a pontoon boat! My dad built a small motorboat when I was in junior high.
