We had a good weekend. It could have been more productive, but things got done that had to get done.
Joe worked hard in the garage, sorting his tools and choosing what he wants to keep, what to put in the garage sale and what our sons may want. He has three or four of most everything. We brought his tools with us when we moved, then my dad died and Mom gave Joe the tools he had in their Florida place, then my grandpa died and Joe got all of those tools too. The garage has been well stocked for over 20 years.
I spent way too much time sorting through family history information that I obtained long before computers. Back in the 70s I paid a couple of Genealogists to do research for me in other states. Lots of handwritten and typewritten documents and letters. I scanned in those that I didn't want to lose, then filled a box to be shredded. Over 250 pages scanned. It took a few hours.
The big trouble came when Joe uncovered a box full of slides (8 carousels!) that were mine from "my other life" back in the 1970s. Most of them I didn't bother looking at....vacations with my ex-husband. But there were a bunch of family events and visits that I had to look at. THEN...I tried taking a photo of the slide with a back-light. It worked!! I was so excited! I saved a bunch that way!
My sister, Patti's high school graduation and all three of our grandmas!
I've mentioned how blessed we were to grow up with three sets of grandparents, and that they got along, making holidays and special events so much nicer when we could all be together. Well, here they are...Mom's mom, my sister, Dad's mom, and step-Grandma (who just died last year).
I've mentioned that I love dogs too, even though we have cats now. This was my collie, Sargeant Pepper. Sarge was the sweetest 80-pound dog. This photo is of us on a Lake Erie beach. It was obviously very cold!! I did grow up in Ohio!
A family photo, probably spring of 1971.
My brother, Randy, My mom and dad, me,
then front row - Tammy and Patti
I also found some relics that I had kept for years. Special sweet things that made me smile. My dad traveled a good bit for work when I was younger. This is a postcard he sent to me. I was four or five years old when I got this in the mail....just for me! His nickname for me was Towhead.
It says: Hi Tow-head, This looks so much like you I thought you had beat me down here (Clearwater, FL). Help mother take care of brother and don't let him bite you! See you next week. Love Dad
Speaking of Dad, this is him with his plane. I think it is the one he took my mom up for a ride in, on their first date!
As you can see, this is just a few of the things I had to look at and make decisions about. Thank goodness for digital options these days!! I scanned and photographed the day away! Now...on to that dining room I've been neglecting.
Thanks for your visit!! Happy Monday. Peace & hugs.

I loved seeing the photos Terri. I know it was a bittersweet time. looking back. I loved the picture of your sweet dog. I had a dog named Mingo who was part black and tan coon hound and part English shepherd. He was a big dog and such a sweetie. One of the reasons I do not have pets is that it just broke my heart when he died. Pets truly mean a lot!!
ReplyDeleteMy ex got 'custody' of Sarge because he kept the house with the backyard and I moved into an apartment. Sarge got cancer a few years later and was euthanized. My heart broke twice over than sweet dog.
DeleteI love it when you share your memories, Terri. Thank you...smiles
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool that you have all these memories. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I enjoyed your pictures and hearing your memories this morning. Glad you are able to digitize and sort, scaling down for the big move. Have a nice Monday.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you have been busy!! You're actually getting done many of the things that I have on my to-do list. I wish I could find a day to do just that and nothing else. I loved seeing your photos and that card from your dad is precious!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your solution for the slides! I'm so impressed and that will help me tremendously with one of my projects! How cool is that!!
I do envy you going through your things and reorganizing your life. You're doing great!
That's a great idea about the slides!
ReplyDeleteI've a metal slides container full and have been wanting to take them somewhere to be transferred ... but imagine that's a costly undertaking.
That postcard from your daddy is priceless! "Don't let him bite you?" LOL!
We had / have a bunch of slides from the 1970s too. I sent many of them to DigMyPics.com and they put them on a DVD and in a book form for easy location. It has worked out great! I put the DVD in the fireproof safe. So, now everything is "safe".
ReplyDeleteBTW, when I was that age I was tan with whitish blonde with curly hair. That photo of the little girl could have easily been me. Weird, huh?! ~:)
How wonderful that you were able to turn your slides into photos!! It's oksy for the dinning room to wait for another day!! It will all get done...have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - how fun to have all those memories.
ReplyDeleteMy parents still have slides like that. THey'll play them every now & then & the SMELL of the projector ... the heat from it.
I need to see about getting those put on disk.
It sounds as if you and your husband both had productive days over the weekend! I enjoyed seeing your family pics.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos! I'm glad you found a way to preserve them. I have a ton of my parents' slides that I want to have put onto DVD one day. Just have to find someone to do it for me.
ReplyDeleteLove the Lake Erie beach pic with the collie. I wouldn't want to live there, but a frozen Lake Erie has a unique beauty.
What precious memories and a blessing you have these memories preserved for future generations. You're gonna be all set to move when the time comes. I especially like the pics of your Daddy and the postcard.
ReplyDeletePictures are the hardest to go through at least for me. Too many memories I guess.
ReplyDeleteSorting things like that is a lot of work. I have a hard time getting rid of anything, but going digital is a great idea! I love, love, love that card from your Dad. It's the sweetest!
ReplyDeleteSorting thru the family memories -- that's got to be the hardest part of downsizing.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a pilot, too!
Wonderful to be able to keep your memories digitally. I don't think anybody ever said downsizing would be easy!
