Saturday 9....

I am participating in the Saturday 9 so it will post on Saturday morning while we will be at my sister's.  I'll catch up when we return!  Thanks to The Gal Herself for another fun Saturday 9!!

Brokenhearted

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Brokenhearted (2012)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a girl who is eager and anxious for her new lover to call. Do you owe anyone a call? An email? A text?   Not at this writing, but probably all three by the time we return from the WiFi-free zone over the weekend.

2) The lyrics are peppered with the informal English exclamation, "cheerio!" What pops into your head when you close your eyes and think of England? Downton Abbey.

3) This week's artist, Karmin, is a husband/wife duo who met at college, and that meeting changed the course of their lives and careers. Think of someone who has had a huge impact on your life. Did you know, as soon as you met, that this was going to be a life-changing relationship?  I have to say Joe, and yes, I knew.

4) Though she sings about consuming tequila, the female side of Karmin, Amy, is a big proponent of healthy eating. She recommends organic foods that are free of pesticides, hormones, food coloring and added sugar. Think about your most recent meal. Was it a good example of "healthy eating?"  Absolutely not.  I have been so bad these past months.  Bad, bad, bad.

5) Husband Nick has his own Twitter account (@NickKarmin), but he doesn't use it often. His last tweet was back in August. What's the last thing you posted to social media? (No, your blog doesn't count.)  It would be something on Facebook. I don't have a Twitter account and I don't remember that I have Instagram most of the time.

6) Karmin performed "Brokenhearted" live on Dancing with the StarsDWTS is very big business for ABC-TV. So many people vote for their favorite couples each week that their phone and text systems often overload. Have you ever voted for a contestant on American Idol, DWTS, The Voice, etc.?  I don't watch any of them anymore, but during the first couple of seasons of Idol and DWTS I did indeed vote.  I've never watched The Voice.
7)  In 2012, the year"Brokenhearted" was popular, the average cost for a gallon of gas was $3.91. In 2016, it had dropped to $2.40. When it's time to fill up your tank, do you shop around for the lowest price/gal.?   Yes, indeed!  Are you brand loyal and always return to the same station, regardless of price?  I usually fill up at Sam's Club, but on the road we tend to look for Sunoco or Flying J.  Or do you just buy gas from the nearest station when you're running low?  At home, Sam's Club usually has the lowest price.  On the road, we use apps like Gas Guru or Waze to find the least expensive station.

8) In 2012, the Space Shuttle Endeavor was retired and placed on permanent display at the California Science Center, a Los Angeles museum dedicated to encouraging excitement and enthusiasm about air and space travel. Let's say you had a long weekend to spend in Los Angeles. Would you go out of your way to see The Endeavor?  No.  What else would you like to do during your time in the City of Angels?  I would spend a long weekend most anyplace but California.  It has never been a longed-for destination.  Ever.  And I've been to the Kennedy Space Center many, many times so sure wouldn't go out of my way to get to the California Science Center just to see the Endeavor.

9) While we're thinking about aviation ... Statistics show that it's still a predominantly male field, and less than 10% of commercial pilots are women. Would you be nervous flying with a woman pilot?  No, I would not be nervous.  I'm sure she has passed all the tests required and had the hours needed to become a commercial pilot....

I'm fine with woman working in "traditionally" male jobs as long as requirements haven't been dumbed down to allow a woman (or any minority) to qualify.  If you need a 97 to pass, everyone should have to get a 97 to pass.  If you have to carry 80 pounds up three flights of stairs within a certain amount of time, then everyone should have to do it to qualify - even if that means the 100 pound woman will fail.  Equality is equality.  Can you tell this is one of my soap-box things?!  If you want equal pay and equal respect in a job, then you'd better be equal in your skills and expertise.  If you can't do it, then you just need to find another line of work.  It's that simple.  (Quit marching and carrying horrid signs and belly-aching and boo-hooing.)  I'm also fine with men working in traditionally female jobs, again as long as they are qualified...and they should get equal pay there as well!!

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for stopping by today!!  Peace & hugs.

  1. I have been to California and it isnt for me either! Equality is just that. Preach on Sister...lol I dont watch those DWTS type shows either, but I really never have. I mostly post funny pictures to FB; have Twitter and Instagram, but rarely use them. FB has almost turned me off, due to all the nasty political posts. Hope you enjoyed your weekend visit.

  4. There's a strong movement on now for California to exit the union. #Calexit I say go for it, can I help you pack? *grin*

I watch a show that talks about the history of how many of these entertainment types met their end. It seems like the ones that are shouting "healthy" living the loudest are the ones living as sinfully as possible including using prescription and/or illegal drugs. All had died from that kind of living at early ages. That shows me that this so called "healthy" living is just something for them to act like they are the Elite. So, no thank you. I'll keep eating my steak and chicken. They can go on pretending to be righteous while living an unrighteous, riotous lives and never making it to 40.

Hope y'all had a fun, easy trip! Georgia is photogenic. ~:)

  5. I recently discovered (as I packed up a former coworker's personal items at his request to send to his home) that the said former coworker made $11,000 more a year than I do for doing *the same job.* And clearly my bosses felt I was doing an adequate-enough job because they kept me and let him go! I assure you, no one "dumbed anything down" for me to get this job. As a matter of fact, I was hired before my male coworker. I am good at this job, which is why I'm still at my desk and he is unemployed.

I don't see fighting for equal treatment as frivolous complaining. I'm the only asset in this single-income household. I don't get a discount on the prescription kibble for my cat (I know you're a cat lover) or my condo association assessments or my property taxes because I'm a woman. Why should I get less pay? So yes, when review time comes around, I'm going to "bellyache." I'd like to think that you would support that. I believe you're a nice person.

  6. BTW, I think I should put my comment in some context (I believe Teri will be interested, if not her blog buddies): I was hired at a comparatively low salary back in 2004, when the economy was in a rut. I was OK with it because I was verbally promised salary increases every 15 months, which never materialized as the nation slid into the Recession of 2008. I was a good sport about that. I mean, if they tell me there's no money, there's no money, right? Can't get blood out of a turnip, as the old saying goes. Then they hired this gentleman in 2010, after the economy rebounded. They paid him the salary I probably would have been receiving if I had gotten those promised increases. Oh! And they aren't replacing him, so I get to do both of our jobs at the lower salary! So you can see why I now feel like a sucker for being a team player, for believing people when they look me square in the eye and tell me something, and for not whining, complaining and boo-hooing.

PS I turn 60 this year. It's hard to find a new job in my industry when you're over 50, so I feel my options are limited. When I get more socked away in my retirement fund, I will walk away and do something else. But for now, as a single woman, I feel it would be irresponsible for me to just quit.

PPS Sorry to shang-hai your blog. It's just that you have commented on my blog in the past and I feel like we have something of a dialog. I apologize if this is unwelcome.

    1. I don't feel like you shang-haied my blog, Gal. I get what you are saying and have been there. Most women have been on the short end of the salary "stick". When I found out the person who held my job before me made $5,000 more than me I was miffed (he was male) but I requested the number for which I was hired. I wanted the job. I may have gotten it had I asked for $5,000 more, but I'll never know. I accepted the position. I could have looked for another position elsewhere, but I loved the job and the people. My choice. We always have a choice (even it you think you don't).

  7. I am completely with you, Terri, on #9 regarding equality in jobs. I wish women could take more satisfaction in accomplishing things men cannot do.

  8. Loved what you had to say about equality in the workforce. I would love to visit California, years ago my dream vacation was to drive not Highway One from start to finish. I think it would be a beautiful drive. But alas, Mr D and I are not travelers and I'm content to stay home and dream!!

  10. Back in the 50's-60's I thought California a magical vacation spot. Today, not so much. In fact, were someone to offer me an expense-paid trip I'd probably ask, "What's behind Box #2?"

Hope you're having a blast with your sis and family!

  11. I think Cheerio is such a fun word! I too think of Downton Abby when I think of England, and I miss it.
Love your comments on equality and I agree 100%. (Which isn't surprising - I often do! You must be pretty smart!)

  12. My own eating habits have been awful the last couple of months as well. There is something about the cold, gray months of winter in PA that encourages comfort food.

  13. Glad you made it home safely, Terri. I enjoyed this set of 9. About food, I can't believe what winter has done to my resolve to eat well. Treats seem like a reward for enduring bad weather somehow. I really enjoyed your answer to #9 and couldn't agree more!
