I am linking up with Knit By God's Hand for Thankful Thursday!
We finally saw the Occupational Therapist today. Her name is Alice and she is GREAT! The insurance only approved five visits, but she is requesting two visits a week for six weeks. She thinks that will get Joe where he needs to be with the hand so that he can continue to work on his own and get it back to nearly 100%. He can already make a fist and there is some strength with it. His wrist isn't working as well as we thought it was, so it's the left wrist and hand that need the hard work.
He quit using the Simply Thick in his beverages and is doing fine with it. They did the swallowing test on day three after the stroke and it only showed slight leaking with liquids. Alice told him he probably should still see a speech therapist once to make that evaluation, but Joe says he isn't concerned about it. He is fine drinking water and coffee, and his Propel and Gingerale.
The cold is better, too, after only two days on antibiotics and cough medicine. Thank goodness!! And thank you all who have been praying for his recovery. The prayers are heard!
So, I am thankful for all of that on this Thankful Thursday! I am also thankful for all of your words of encouragement, advice and prayers for me. My goodness, my heart is full.
Enjoy this Friday Eve!! Thanks for your visit! Peace & hugs.

I am so happy to hear about Joe...truly I am. Thanks Terri for visiting my blog---it warms my heart....keeping you both in prayer. Blessings
ReplyDeleteHappy news. It is times like this that we sit and ponder all we have to be thankful for. Blessings this weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanking the Lord along with you for these blessings and Joe's progress. This is really good news!
ReplyDeleteTherapy can do amazing things! Have a nice weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteSo great to hear of his progress! When I worked in Home Health, I remember talking with our speech therapist regarding swallowing problems with liquids. He taught something called a chin tuck to help with the swallowing so I think speech tx would be helpful for him. I always thought that Thick-it looked particularly nasty to drink! :) Have a great day, you two.
ReplyDeleteMelanie, the PT told Joe about the chin tuck a couple of days ago, but he really is doing just fine with swallowing liquids. I'm sure he will have it checked again, just to be safe, but it isn't a worry for us.
DeleteI love hearing how much Joe is improving. Thick It does sound yucky. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy upbeat post full of HOPE!!! Yes. God is so good!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear of improvements!! Progress is progress... no matter how small! We'll just keep praying for more of it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with me today!!
