It's Hodgepodge Time!!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 256

Here are the questions for this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. Answer on your own blog, then head back to Joyce's blog  here  to link answers with your friends and neighbors.  Joyce is declaring next week Winter Break in the HP, so no Hodgepodge on Wednesday February 24th.

We're here this week though, so let's get started-

1. February 17th is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. It lands on the calendar one day after National Do Something for a Grouch Day (February 16) which somehow feels related. Perhaps the 16th inspired the 17th?

Tell about a time you performed a random act of kindness or were the recipient of one. Will you make an effort to perform a random act of kindness on the 17th? Share details if you're so inclined, and if you have something specific in mind.

I don't remember when I did it last because I don't really make note of it, but I do like to pay for the person behind me in line at a drive-thru. You ever know what they think, or if they appreciate it, but I think it is a fun thing to do. Joe and I have been recipients a few times recently, with friends giving us meals during Joe's recuperation.

2.What's the most uplifting or encouraging thing you see happening in the world right now? You may have to dig deep for this one.

You are right about that (digging deep to find one). I do know a couple of people who are on mission trips in other countries, so that is encouraging to me. I am also hopeful for a Republican in the White House, come January 2017.

3. Black olives, black currants, black grapes, black beans, blackberries, Oreos...your favorite food the color of night? Your least favorite on the list?

Favorite...black beans. Least favorite, black currants. I do like black olives, black grapes, blackberries and Oreos!

4. A while back I read (here) a list of twelve things you should do before you turn 50. They were-

travel when you have the chance, take care of your skin, learn a foreign language, make exercise a habit, leave a toxic situation, stop caring what others think about you, stop worrying, volunteer, spend time with your grandparents, pledge to work less, learn to cook an amazing dish, and seize an opportunity as it arises

What do you think of the list? It's a good list. What would you add or remove and why?  I can't think of anything I would add or remove. I'm well past 50.  If you're over 50, have you done all 12?  Not all 12, but 8 or 9 or them, for sure.  If you're not yet 50, have you done any at all? What's on the list that you haven't done, but would like to do?  I would love to know a foreign language, but I'm too old to learn now - or have at least lost the motivation.

5. Besides the classic Christmas flicks, what's your favorite film where winter plays a part in the setting?

There are a bunch!! We love Fargo; Groundhog Day; Mystery, Alaska;  and Grumpy Old Men.

6.When did you last feel helpless, and what did you do about it?  I feel helpless right now because I can't fix Joe's hand or make him feel better.

7. Share a favorite proverb.  Proverbs 3:5:  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

8. Insert your own random thought here.  Not random, but.....

Update on Joe:  I ended up taking yesterday off. Joe has a terrible cold and was coughing all night. Needless to say, I got very little sleep. I am happy that I got to be at home when the Physical Therapist came.  We liked him a lot and he explained the plan that has been given to Joe.  The nicest thing is that he gave Joe lots of things to do during the day when they aren't here.  We both feel good about it, and Joe knows he has to do the work. We haven't met the Occupational Therapist yet, but the PT gave Joe some hand exercises to get started on.  Things will start moving now!!  I was also able to take him to his doctor appointment and she gave him medicine for his cold, which has settled in his lungs (but not pneumonia!!).  Hoping for more restful nights and to start seeing some improvement in that hand!!

Thanks for stopping by! I enjoy Hodgepodge Wednesdays and thank Joyce for this very fun meme!!  Peace & hugs!!

  4. So glad things are starting to fall into place. Glad you guys like his PT. Too bad about the cold, glad his GP is keeping an eye on that cough. As all have mentioned here, you need to remember to take care of yourself as well. Keeping you both in our prayers. Call me anytime if you need to talk. Wish I could be there to help. Hugs and Love

  5. Very grateful that the therapy has FINALLY begun....glad he got some meds for his cold and it's not turned into pneumonia...that would be terrible. I really am concerned about you, though. He's getting great treatment....you, my Friend, need to get some rest, too.

  7. Praying for rapid improvement in Joe's hand and glad to hear it's not pneumonia in his lungs. It's nice that he has a physical therapist that is good and that he likes. I think that's so important. As for the election, I have never been more disgusted with an election year than this one. There is so much not to like about so many candidates. Blessings on your day, Terri. I hope you can get a good sleep tonight. xo

  8. I forgot about the movie "Grumpy Old Men", or that would have been my favorite!
I'm hoping for a Republican in the white house, too, but it needs to be the right one.
I'm so sorry to hear that Joe has caught a cold, in addition to everything else! I'm praying for you both, as he begins therapy. Hang in there! (Kathy)

  9. I enjoyed your hodgepodge...sorry to hear about your husbands hand. Praying for a complete recovery and that the pt works quickly! These cold and flu's going around this year are particularly nasty. Hope the meds kick in soon and he gets to feeling better and you both get a good nights sleep!

  11. I'm really sorry to hear Joe has the cold, but glad it isn't pneumonia. Also glad about the PT. I didn't even think about Groundhog Day. Good one. Oh man, we have got to get this election thing done and done right. Praying that God will raise up the right person.

  12. Good to read your post today. I'm glad Joe's doctor is keeping a close eye and hope that cold and cough soon get better. Hopefully you will start to see progress with his hand now that the therapy has started and he knows what to do to help himself. But take it easy. My impression is that you would find it hard to take help from others when you are such a competent person but take all the help you can get. There will be a time when you can repay it.

  13. I am so happy to hear the PT came and that you both like him. It will make a world of difference. I sure hate that he has that old cold...you and I both know how that makes you feel. Maybe the medicine the dr. gave him will kick in and you both can sleep tonight. You said something that clicked with me....'lost the motivation'...that applies to me in so many ways. I will remember that. Hugs

  14. Yay on #2! It's reassuring to see several of us are of the same mindset. :)

I've never heard of Fargo, but you're the second one to recommend it. Looks like that's going on our 'to watch' list.

  15. Sos glad the therapy has begun and you are so encouraged.

My hubby has a coughing cold, too, and not pneumonia. But that cough does keep him awake.

Continuing to include you in my prayers. Appreciate the efforts you give to blogging when your life is so full right now!!

  16. I do hope your hubby is feeling better, and am sorry he has an awful cold disrupting his return to good health. We are in SC and it is full on primary fever here. Crazy! I have to go downtown tomorrow and I just saw Rubio is having a rally there so traffic should be delightful. I'll be away on Saturday (Primary Day) so hubs and I voted absentee. We did not want to miss this one!!

  19. My beloved SWMBO is battling a cold too! It is really scary given the type of cancer she has. I empathize with you as you care for Joe. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement.
