No Sunday Stealing For Me.....
I wasn't feeling the Sunday Stealing today. Not my kind of questions to answer.
So, you'll just get an update on Joe and our weekend so far!
Joe is doing okay though the Simply Thick stuff we have to put in all of his beverages seems to be making him sick to his stomach. He drinks Propel and Ginger Ale all day long and usually has two or three cups of coffee throughout the day. I'm not sure how we can keep him hydrated if he really can't tolerate the Simply Thick. We just bought a big jug of it, with a pump to make measuring easy. I feel bad for him. Any experience with this stuff? I'm open to suggestions!!
His left hand is still unusable and he is anxious to get started on the rehab. We have been told that it will come back, but he needs to get moving on the therapy, so bring it on!! It's been a week already!
We did go to church tonight (4:00 Vigil Mass). Our Associate Pastor said Mass and he is the one who came to the hospital last week and gave Joe the Sacrament of Anointing the Sick. He was happy to see Joe doing so well.
We also got out and about today and Joe did very well. We dropped his suit off at the cleaners. The Museum's annual Gala is coming up and Joe says he wants to go. I told him that we can just dress up his black suit this year, rather than rent a tuxedo. He'll get a bowtie, a cumberbund, and a tuxedo shirt instead. It won't cost much and if we have to cancel, we won't have to pay for something we won't use.
After the cleaners, we went to a dress shop looking for a top for me to wear with my long black skirt. My long black skirt is my "go-to" for fancy events. It's really easy to just get a new dressy top to go with it. I found one I am happy with and it is also one I can wear again with black slacks. So that was a successful first part of our day.
Then we stopped by the hospital to visit a friend who is still there (I visited her last week one day while Joe was there). She is really having some problems and after 11 days in the hospital, they still can't figure out what is wrong. Next week, she is looking at exploratory surgery. Not good news. She and her husband (who was there with her) were both happy to see Joe doing so well. It was a good visit.
From there we went home to relax a bit before heading to church. After church, we did our usual grocery shopping. I think I'm more tired than Joe is!! Praise God!!
Thanks for your visit today! Peace & hugs!

So glad to hear that your hubby is doing so well....and yes, bring on the therapy. I know you're both anxious to get that started, and the sooner the better. Sounds like you had a "usual" Saturday. Glad your shopping trip went well for yourself, too. I'm usually having to run all over the place looking for just the right thing! HOPE your SONday is relaxing and you can get some much needed rest for yourself! Happy Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteSounds a busy day to me. Glad to hear Joe is doing well although I hope you can get the simply thick stuff sorted. (Are there different types you can try?). Enjoy your Sunday
ReplyDeleteSounds like he is improving more each day. That is fantastic. I wish I could suggest what to do to help him get that stuff down. I'm sure the therapists will have suggestions. I see you are on Instagram now. So exciting. I requested to follow you. Happy Valentine's Day to you!
ReplyDeleteTerri, I want you to remember something, you need to take care of yourself...please...
ReplyDeleteAs for the upset stomach (Joe)--it might be the combo of the stuff and coffee. Just saying....since I have been taking stuff for bronchitis, I have not been able to have coffee--talk about upset stomach, tmi, I know.
ANYWAYS---Keeping you both in prayer. Happy Valentines Day to you both.
It's good to hear of you and Joe out and around. I do hope that therapy starts quickly. I have no wisdom about the Thick-it. Maybe sipping it slowly. Have a great Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear that Joe continues to do well. Hopefully there is a fix for his upset tummy. Happy Valentines Day!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Joe is progressing well. Happy Valentine's Day to you both.
ReplyDeleteThat's so positive ... Joe's looking forward to the annual gala, I mean!
ReplyDeleteIt's been years since I've had occasion to don formal wear. Be sure and post a photo, won't you?
PS - I've never heard of Simply Thick, but it sounds rather nasty. Hopefully, the therapist may have another suggestion.
This update is better than Sunday Stealing! :)
ReplyDeleteThickened liquids are very difficult to deal with and I know a lot of people don't drink enough because of it. Jello can be a good way to get a little extra fluid, but I don't have any other ideas.
Make sure Joe gets that therapy going on his hand. The best results are what happens in the first 30 days, so you don't want to wait.
Great that you and Joe were out and about today. It's great he feels strong enough for the activity. I've never heard of Simply Thick, doesn't sound good to me! Hope they get that therapy going soon, I know that will really help him.
ReplyDeleteThis is good news about Joes' progress. I wish I had some helpful words about the thick stuff he has to drink, but at this point I am learning volumes from you! Thank you for sharing with us the ups and downs of this process you are experiencing. You do your friends a service in this way.
ReplyDeleteYour plans for clothing for yourself and Joe for the museum event sound very nice, appropriate and wise -- since none of us knows what a day holds and how plans might have to be changed.
I need a long black skirt like yours. That sounds like a wardrobe essential!
Continuing to pray for the 2 of you!
Hydration is VERY important for his heart. I've not had to deal with Simply Thick, but I had a hard time keeping nearly everything down for awhile. Jello is a great idea, I was told to stay away from coffee (mostly because of its dehydrating effects). I found soup worked best...oddly, bean soup without the beans tasted the best to me. Peppermint helps alot with nausea. I couldn't stomach teas, but I found that steeping a piece of candied ginger really tasted okay and it helped settle my stomach. Julie gave me some ginger chewing gum that was good too. I found anything that created acid -- coffee, juice, sodapop -- aggrevated my nausea. Kids Gogurt was recommended too. Popscicles, ice cream, milk shakes, pudding all were recommended too (but I'm lactose intolerant an couldn't cope with simple sugars at the time, either). If they suggest Ensure, I found Boost tastes much better, and Ensure comes in an Apple Juice formula too. They finally prescribed phenegren for me to help me keep things down so I could keep hydrated, and that was what literally saved my life. Hope you got a couple of ideas. Our love to you both. Keep working at the hand's recovery. A few things my friend (a hand specialist) told me that she has some of her patients do are writing/doodling with large crayons, washing dishes (warm water and some rebuilding small muscles), paraffin baths, and one thing my mom did was to start crocheting to help regain her small muscle skills again. Its really really awkward and frustrating, but whatever he can do a little at a time will help, and he can do these things without a therapist. So happy to see you guys are going out and enjoying yourselves. Give our love to Joe. Hugs to you, too, Toots.
