Harper Valley PTA
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our
readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post
will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated.
Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you
to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have
any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here
is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Harper Valley PTA (1968)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This week's featured artist uses her middle initial (C. for Carolyn) all the time. Do you use your middle initial very often? Only for "official" documents. L for Lee.
2) In this song, a mother tells off the local PTA. What's the most recent school event you attended -- whether as a parent, a teacher or a student? Our niece's graduation two years ago, but we will be at our grandson's graduation in three weeks!
3) The lyrics reference the mom's miniskirts, which were trendy in the 1960s. The website Popsugar reports that gingham checks are trendy for 2015. Tell us about the most recent addition to your wardrobe. It wasn't a mini skirt or anything gingham. I got new shoes this week. Black Sketchers for walking.
4) Thinking of moms, Access Hollywood named Carol Brady of The Brady Bunch TV's #1 mom. Who is your favorite TV mom? The first one who popped into my mind is Donna Reed, but I also enjoyed Beaver's mom and Edith Bunker!
5) Mother Winters always gave Sam peppermint tea to calm her stomach. Do you have any tried-and-true home remedies to share? No concoctions, but ginger ale calms a tummy and we keep some for just that reason.
6) Sam's mother always tips 15% in restaurants. Sam has worked in food service and is more judgmental, tipping between 10% and 25%, depending on the quality of the service. What's your tipping policy? Are you more like Sam or her mother? More like Sam. We typically give 20% and sometimes a little more if service has been great. We used to to 10% for breakfast, 15% for lunch and 20% for dinner. Now we do 20% all the time, if warranted.
7) When the tip of her shoelace becomes frayed, Sam's mother snips off the end and then paints the tip with clear nail polish. Good as new! Sam thinks that's crazy because you can just buy new laces for less than $2. Are you more frugal like mother or spendthrift like daughter? I would buy new laces, though I do admit to using scotch tape on a frayed lace until I could get new ones.
8) Mother Winters loves how french vanilla smells and burns her Yankee Candles all year around. Do you use scented candles or air fresheners? NO! You won't find scented anything (including perfume) in our house. Heavy scents give me nasty headaches. I have trouble just walking past a Bath & Body Works store. Yikes!
9) Sam is celebrating Mother's Day with her mother's favorite, Hershey Bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate or chocolate with almonds? If it is chocolate, I'll eat it, but I do love chocolate and nuts together, so I'll take the Hershey Almond bar, thank you!
Thanks to Sam for another fun Saturday:9. Thanks to you for stopping by!! Hope you are having a great Saturday! Peace & hugs!

I do remember the song very well. If someone could write a similar one today, it would be rate XXX as far as clothes, words from the mouths of kids/adults, etc. I didnt know smells bothered you...I am not much of a chocolate eater, so any of the ones mentioned would be ok. I am not frugal, but certainly should be. Enjoy Mayfaire!
ReplyDeleteHere's another song I'm familiar with but not one I especially liked. The last time I got any new clothes was at Christmas. I hope your Sketchers are comfortable. I prefer New Balance myself. I would probably get new laces too as mine always break somewhere in the middle. Because I'm trying to get rid of things that I don't use or won't use, I try not to buy a lot. Hope Mayfaire is off to a good start. Enjoy your Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI like scented candles but too many smells together like a candle store gives me a headache, Mmmm chocolate. I'd take any of them. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time resisting dark chocolate with nuts. Mmmm. And wow, when I saw the Harper Valley PTA, I could sing almost the whole song!! Lol Have a great Saturday, Terri.
ReplyDeleteMy middle initial is also L for Lee. I remember my mom listening to Jeanne C. Riley on Lawence Welk Show. Last mini skirt I wore was 45 years ago. Bought a couple pairs of capris last week. My favorite TV mom was Donna Reed. I use ginger ale also to calm my tummy. No scents for me either. My allergies wont allow. Dark chocolate with nuts for me also. Have a wonderful moms day.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a middle initial. My name is really Maribeth, but I've always gone by Mari.
ReplyDeleteWe tip 20% too. I love scented candles and burn them a lot. Dark chocolate is my friend. :)
Hi Terri, My middle name is Elizabeth. Most scents give me a headache. John is the big dark chocolate fan here!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting, Terri. I'm not sure who my absolutely favorite tv mom is but I am very fond of Lorelai. She was a bit flaky but always listened to her daughter.
