Finally back....

Some history and then day one and day two....

Our internet has been down for two days.  Welcome home!  Work is crazy after being gone for a week, and I haven't even had a lunch hour to try to get a post done about our trip, let alone find time to catch up on blogs.  I feel lost without your news!!

I'm going to start the 'story' with our wedding pictures.  I know they have been seen before, but it seems fitting to start the story of our 30th wedding anniversary vacation, with 30 years ago...

Our wedding was simple and sweet.  We waited 18 months for my annulment to come through so we could marry in the Catholic church.  Joe's first wife died of cancer, but I was divorced.  The wedding was at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Annandale, Virginia.  We had immediate family and a few close friends only, and the reception was at our house.  I did all the cooking and baking and we didn't have a honeymoon. It was hot that day.  My custard pies melted!  They did.

I married Joe and also got two wonderful sons that day, May 11, 1985.  Joey and Jeff were 17 and 21.  They are now 47 and 51.  Yikes!!

We began our drive to New Orleans on Monday, May 11th.  Had to take a picture of this truck being towed in front of us.  It looks like it is heading right for us!  LOL

At one of the rest stops, we actually saw a pay phone.  I didn't think they existed anymore!!

My Joe is a shopper.  I am lucky to have a husband who likes to shop even more than me!  We never pass up an outlet mall!!

We stopped the first night while still in Florida.  Florida is a BIG state and the panhandle just keeps going and going and going.  We have been pleased with Comfort Inn.  They have upgraded and are quite nice and comfortable now.  We typically have been partial to Marriott and Fairfield Inns but have found Comfort Inn to be comparable now.

A 'selfie' with Joe pretending he is going to pick me up and carry me into the hotel room.... like that could really happen!  LOL

We took some more boring "on the road" photos but suffice it to say we arrived safely in New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon.  The Lake Ponchartrain Causeway is massive.  None of our photos do it justice, so this one is from a Google search.  You can't get into New Orleans on I-10 without crossing the Lake.

We stayed at the Blake Hotel (which is a Choice Hotel, like Comfort Inn!).  It is located at the west side of the French Quarter, on the corner of Poydras and St. Charles.  It is close to the Riverwalk too.  A great location and a very nice hotel.  The price was right.

The Blake Hotel has an amazing little cafe attached to it, called Cafe at the Square.  The food is amazing and made us not care about eating anywhere else (though we did!). The staff is great too and we got to know them by name.  The Cafe looks out at LaFayette Park and one of the waitresses (Bonnie) told us that they film NCIS New Orleans there sometimes.

Joe was happy with our first dinner in New Orleans, at the Cafe on the Square!

We both had the crab cake salad and lobster bisque. Delicious!!

That concludes our first two days of vacation.  Day three (Wednesday) was our visit with blogging friend, Vic, and the beautiful plantation.  More photos to follow!  Thanks for checking in!  Peace & love!

  1. First of all, Terri, I love the wedding photos! Thanks for sharing those with us. They're great! I'm so glad you had a nice time in New Orleans. It's someplace I've always wanted to visit, but have never quite made it there. That causeway looks awesome.

  2. I love hearing about your anniversary trip, as well as what led up to the marriage. You are both blessed having each other. Jim and I had a low key wedding too. On one of my trips to NO, we stayed on St. Charles in an old bed and breakfast...it was neat. I love their food and your meal looked soooo good to me. Cant wait for the next entry and pictures. God bless both of you with many more years together.

  4. Beautiful. A little backstory on that causeway from me; we were traveling from San Diego (back to FL) where my husband had been stationed, anyways, our car radio had been stolen in El Paso and we did not know there was a hurricane plowing thru...yep...that's right.

I enjoyed looking at our photos, fond memories, indeed. Blessings

  5. I like your wedding photos. Ours was low key also, with just Jay and his kids at the ceremony. We did have reception with friends. I'm glad you had such a great time and enjoyed the food. That causeway is quite intimidating. It's always a mess when you return from vacation.

Love the photo of your husband getting ready to pick you up. You have such a great sense of humor.

  6. Yes, you're right about public telephones - very difficult to find. Love your photos, especially the one of you 'being carried over the threshold'. Looking forward to seeing more of your photos.
