It's Hodgepodge Wednesday!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 222


Here are the questions to this week's Hodgepodge. Answer on your own blog, then hop back HERE tomorrow to share answers...see you there! 


1.  Did you do anything 'memorable' this past weekend?  
I did and blogged about it already, but we enjoyed a little cook-out with friends on Sunday, and on Monday our nieces came for an overnight visit before heading to Universal Studios for the rest of the week.  We had lots of fun!

2. Ronald Reagan is quoted as saying-

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."  

Your thoughts?  Loved Reagon and wish we had another like him to lead our country!  Do you somehow acknowledge and appreciate the freedoms you enjoy?  I count my blessings daily and mourn the fact that so many have turned their backs on this great land of ours.  Did your upbringing contribute to that sense of appreciation?  Most definitely.  I was raised at a time with God was first in the home and in school.  If you're a parent, are there specific things you do to pass on this sense of responsibility and appreciation to your own children in regard to the freedoms they enjoy?  Our 'boys' are 47 and 51, so they are old enough to have learned to appreciate what we had and to recognize what we have lost.

3. Loudest noise you've ever heard?  Probably the motor on an air-boat.  They are really LOUD!

4. What was the last thing you ate that might be considered 'junk food'? Did you enjoy it?   The ice cream cone I had last night! 

5. When was the last time you were somewhere the crowd felt 'packed in like sardines'?  First of all, I hate crowds.  Hate them.  But the absolute worst was being packed in like sardines on the water taxis in Venice, Italy.  I nearly fell off the dock trying to get into one and then it was impossible to even move once the boat started to move.  Never again!  We were there over the May Day holiday and it was way too crowded for my comfort.

6. Are you organized when it comes to packing for a trip?  Yes. Do you make a list weeks in advance or toss items in last minute?  I don't write a list but have one in my head that I keep checking off.  Are you a carry-on only sort of packer or do you need an entire suitcase for your shoes?  I can pack a small carry-on for a weekend trip, with a garment bag.  I only took one larger suitcase to New Orleans, with a garment bag.  I typically only take one extra pair of shoes. I try to take only one set of jewelry that goes with everything.  I do plan on an extra day of clothing, just in case we get stuck somewhere.

7. What was the last sporting event you attended in person?   Probably a spring training game for the Phillies baseball team.  That was last year (we didn't get to one this year).  Did your team win?   I seem to remember that they lost to the Yankees.  Did you care?   I did not really care but am happy when Joe is happy.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Not so random, but I've been thinking about how important and special the blessing of family is.  We so enjoyed having Linda and Alaina here for their (too short) visit.  We will be with family this coming weekend and the next, then have a wonderful family reunion to look forward to in July.  I am counting the blessings!  I should also mention that we count many of our dear friends as family, so I include them in my blessings.

  1. Ugh I hate crowds too. I live in a summer tourist area. Weekends here are brutal with traffic and crowds.

    I am a good packer. I usually only bring 1 extra pair of shoes too.

  2. I avoid crowded areas if I can. And when I happen upon such an area...it's get in, do what I need, and GET OUT and AWAY from it all.

    Glad you had some time with family. I think the last sporting event Bud and I went to was a ballgame too...but the Astro's playing their 'farm team' for Spring Training.

  3. Oh my, crowds and I DO NOT get along at all. Families are blessings - some are blood releated and some we choose down through the years. My friends here are 'family' and I love them all. Good post today and good answers as always Terri. God bless.

  4. Oh Terri, I do agree that family are blessings! And I think I appreciate family the older I get. Tonight we are going too the wake for a cousin's son. We haven't seen the family in years but it doesn't mean you don't grieve for their loss. I'm with you on hating crowds btw.

  6. Family and blessings, go together! Thanks for the tip on Italy, it is the one place I've always wanted to travel to. Your ice cream cone, I considerate that a dairy product - good for you!!!!!!

  9. Like you, I agree that we could use another Reagan in the Oval Office.

    As kids we had no idea how blessed we were to have God, country, and family at the forefront.

  11. I could not agree more with your answer to #5. I don't like crowds either. I pray God to raise up godly men or women to lead our nation as the Constitution demands, to honor their oath of office. I also liked your random thought...family is a wonderful blessing. Nice Hodgepodge post.

  13. We were not in Venice during peak tourist season, and I think that helps. Family is a blessing. I agree, and am looking forward to spending time with ours spread far and wide this year. Enjoy your day!

  14. Enjoyed reading your Hodgepodge answers. My husband and I both hate crowds as well and avoid them whenever possible. I hear Venice is also a very dirty city, so I have to admit that in spite of the history and architecture, I have no special desire to go there.

  17. I enjoyed reading your answers today. Funny how life is...my 14 years old grandson thought they impeached Reagan....I about had a fit.....I told him that Reagan turned out to be one of the best presidents. Actually I had to look up the two that got impeached and why....that was interesting

  19. i guess the loudest sound I've heard is a plane taking off or fireworks up close the first year I was in Spain. The last time I was in crowds was at Christmas in the centre of Madrid. How I hate crowds too!
