Tuesday Tidbits....

My blogging friends (you!) post lovely garden photos, or lovely vacation photos, or interesting family photos....

Makes my silly "tidbit-mishmash" posts seem so trivial. A few of you only post once or twice a week, and days like this, that makes so much sense!  I really have nothing.

Work was work.  I did go home last night to a beef roast in the crockpot!  I got it ready the night before, and Joe got it started for us.  I use the liner bags and that makes it so easy to get it all ready for him to just pop it in and turn on the crock.  I leave before 7:00 a.m., and for an 8-hour recipe, it doesn't need to be started until between 9:00 and 10:00.  Works out great for him to start it.  Makes finishing with potatoes and a veggie real easy.  Clean up is even easier....just toss the bag and it's left-over contents, and wipe the crockpot.  Left-overs for dinner tonight!

Are any of you interested in genealogy?  I love the show "Who Do You Think You Are"!! We tape it so I can see it when I have time to enjoy it.  I belong to Ancestry.com and to the D.A.R.  I have the family tree back quite a few generations, and we also did the DNA testing.  What I miss is the more personal information that the stars on the TV show are able to find out about their ancestors.  I think I need to start concentrating on census information and newspaper articles.  I would love to know if anyone connected here has had success doing this??

I'll stop. My May will be much more interesting!!  I promise!  LOL   Thanks for coming by.  Peace & hugs!

  2. Good morning, Terri! I'm trying my hardest to get back to blogging but so often I don't feel like I have anything to write about..lol. My sister is extremely into genealogy. She should have been a private detective..the stuff that she has found out about our family's history is amazing. I love the crock pot, makes dinner a breeze!

  3. No matter what you post, it is interesting to me! I love know what you do daily. I am not into family history, but probably should be. Glad you have found so many things, and sounds like more to come. Have a nice work day!

  4. I like reading about just regular days! It makes us know more about your life. At least you are blogging regular. I have not found any time at all for it. I barely get to read some of the blogs. FB has ruined me and stolen my time. Don't know what will happen when we have the second baby here!!!
I need to go by the history branch of our public library. They have the genealogy search software we can use for free. My sister did our family but we need to know stuff about Bill's. He has no clue and it doesn't matter that much to him but I bet our younger daughter for sure would be interested in the results.

  5. Now you know why I only post once a week - not enough excitement to post something daily, but I really admire you for posting something every day.

I should use my crock pot more and should find out more about my ancestors too. I know you know more about your family than I do mine.

  6. Terri, I have tried to cook roasts in my crockpot but they don't turn out well. They end up tough. Maybe I'm using the wrong cut of beef? What do you use?

    1. Well this one was too dry and I forget the cut. Probably a rump. The best I've had is just a pot roast that has some good fat still on it. Throw in an onion and some potatoes...the best!

  7. I like reading about your day. I have a hard time figuring out what to post sometimes too, but I enjoyed reading about your day.
I love crock pot meals. I find that I can't overcook a roast in the crockpot. I start it at 6:30 and keep it going till we eat, after 5. It seems to get more tender the longer it stays on.
We enjoy that show too. I've signed up with ancestry.com but haven't found the interesting info they have. I think we need a professional to look that up! :)

  8. Well, since you shut off your comments for the previous post, you find me here [obviously] instead.

That pot roast sounds heavenly delicious. One of my favorite meals.
Oh and I too belong to Ancestry dot com!! For years I've found it most valuable...helped me get my genealogy book published from all the good stuff I gathered from their site.

  9. I've become quite a bit interested in genealogy more and more over the past few years....maybe that happens as we get closer to the end of our time here, and want to leave a bit of our history behind. My sister, Evelyn, has been very diligent through the decades in learning about our family's histories. Now she's working on her husband's parents' lineages. She belongs to ancestry.com, and has utilized the LDS Church files a great deal, as well.

Pot roast is a favorite with me and Lee, too. Mom taught me that the fat was the important part in making the roast tasty as well as tender; so, she always used chuck roast, and that's all I've used, too. I throw in carrots (my favorite) and potatoes always, but I add other veggies, too, from time to time -- turnips can give it a bit of sweetness, too, and sometimes I'll break up corn on the cob and add it at the last few minutes to cook the corn, yet not long enough to get that "cobby" flavor. Mom always paced a bay leaf in the pot and a bit of celery, too, which I do, too. I always brown both sides of the roast 1st, then put everything in a Dutch oven and let it cook for 3-4 hours on low. I've done it in a crockpot, but I miss having the browning bits in the broth.....dag, Terri, now I'm getting hungry.

See, Terri....You had alot to say afterall :)

  10. Isn't like just like that! Some days (or weeks) we cannot blog about what is REALLY going on in our lives lest we lose all family, friends and/or our jobs! (smile) It's sort of been that way for me of late, although today (Wednesday April 29) I had something truly praiseworthy to write, the birth of our newest grandchild. Blessings to you, Terri. I'll bet you're thinking your vacation can't get here soon enough!
