Today's Memory Monday is titled "My Siblings". Retired Not Tired started this meme to record memories of families and friends. Visit her blog and join in!
I have written about my brother and two sisters many times. I love them dearly. Some of these photos you have seen before if you follow my blog. You also know that we lost our brother to colon cancer in 2003. He was only 48 and left behind a devoted and loving wife, a daughter and son.
I am the oldest. Randy was three years younger than me. He was ornery, lots of fun, and always devoted to his sisters and parents. He went hunting with dad from the time he was old enough to handle a rifle. He learned to fly single engine planes and was so proud to take dad up in a plane (dad had been a pilot, too). He also had a motorcycle. Randy graduated from Ohio University with a BA in Organizational Management. He put himself through college with his own construction business. He built metal silos and most of the farms in our hometown area had at least one silo that he built. After graduation, he owned a very successful door company that is still in business today Kelly & Askew. No need to say how much he is missed. He was a devoted family man, and was also a devoted Christian man who did the Emmaus Retreat, worked tirelessly for his church's youth and for Habitat for Humanity.
Patti was born three years after Randy. Patti has firey red hair and had a firey temper to match (which she has grown out of, I have to say!). Oh my, though.....we all have stories about her temper. I won't tell any, and hope that she will keep quiet about the stories she has about me! LOL Patti also graduated from Ohio University and has been an elementary school teacher for 35 years. She is married to Greg and they have a lovely daughter, Kelly, who is in college now, studying art. Kelly is at a community college right now, but will transfer to Ohio University to finish her degree in another year.
Tammy came next, three years after Patti. Tammy has had an interesting and varied work life. She did not go to college right after graduating from high school, but instead went to Washington DC and got a job at a government agency as a tour guide. She has also been a car salesman, worked in the hotel/motel industry as a night desk clerk and also trained the cleaning staff. After our dad died, and when mom was having health issues, she moved back home to be with Mom and went back to school. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a teaching degree in high school English. Tammy decided the classroom was not for her (after giving it a try), so taught on-line classes for several years. She also worked with GED students and loved doing that. Now she is happily married to Bruce and works for a large food company in merchandising.
So now you have met my siblings!! There is so much more I could write about them all, and I am so proud of them. I am also so blessed to have my sisters and to have had my brother in my life. Here are some photos in no particular order.....

This is precious!!! Such wonderful memories and how they've grown with you to make your family complete.
ReplyDeletePS...my older, middle, brother [no passed] had a single engine plane too. Oh the trips I took with him...from all around Colorado, to Las Vegas even. Secretly he oftentimes let me take the controls high up above the land...thrilling.
NOW passed...not 'no'.
DeleteI loved and enjoyed reading about your siblings today. Have a great Monday!
ReplyDeleteYour family is just lovely! I am glad for you that you have sisters. I too lost my brother in 1997 - he was 51 - 8 years older than me - Now I am 11 years older than him. So hard to believe.
ReplyDeleteI almost feel like I have known you for a long time, and the history plus pictures make it even more so. Ohio - was lucky to have your family in every way. Got to love that curly hair - we can complain about that together!
ReplyDeleteAh Terri, I can hear the pain of the loss of your brother. With time it's not as fresh, but always there, isn't it. I love the family photos! It's so much fun to hear about the background of your siblings. And what a dangerous childhood we all had back in the day! (thank goodness the safety police weren't out then.) :-))
ReplyDeleteTerri, I enjoyed reading about your siblings. I know you miss your brother very much. I love the photos over the years.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat story about your sisters and brother. Sorry you lost your brother... Your sisters are both beautiful women --just like you... You are so lucky to have them in your life.
ReplyDeleteI had two older brothers. One died from cancer in 1985, and one died in his 80's a few years ago... I miss them both --along with both of my parents. I'm the last one in my immediate family.
Hugs,
Betsy
Beautiful. I always enjoy your "throwback" posts. I had to giggle over "The Ohio State"---my Lit. professor is a alum of that school & is so in love with Urban Myer. ANYWAYS!!!!! (smiles)---thank you for such a lovely post. Blessings
