Friday's Fragmented Five?

I'm not sure about that "extra, extra" because there is nothing exciting to share today.  I usually get my post done the night before and schedule it to post at 6:00 a.m., but not last night.  Crazy week, and it is finally almost over!

Today I have financial pages for a grant to work on, and the department heads are feeding me budget numbers for our fiscal 2016, so those have to be put into the computer.  We have to present the first-round budget to the board committee next week, so the pressure is on everyone - not just me.

Joe is always happy to see tax season end, but it really doesn't end for accountants.  He has 18 people on extension.  He used to do well over 100 tax returns each year, but has gotten it down to around 40  since he "retired".  Of course, ours was the last one he did and (as always when you are self-employed) we had to pay.  We used to always go out to a nice restaurant to celebrate the end of tax season (and loonnngggg nights at the office).  This year he didn't want to go out.  He was just happy to be done with the rush.

We have no plans for this weekend.  Grocery shopping (tonight) and laundry are all we have to do. Of course, we will go to church on Saturday evening and maybe out to eat afterwards. You know I love not setting the alarm!

Our remaining three cats have settled down into a new 'order' now that Onyx is gone.  Things are getting back to normal again.  The only thing that isn't back to normal is their eating habits.  We catered to Onyx, since he had lost so much weight.  Now we are seeing that what we fed him is not necessarily what these three want to eat now - or their finicky nature has kicked in again.  I'm going to buy a few different brands at the store tonight, and hopefully one of them will make them want to gobble it up.  We have dry food down all the time for them, so they aren't starving.  I give them canned food in the mornings, though, and that is what I've been throwing away in the evening.  Cats!!

Lunch was fun yesterday, with my girlfriends Cindee and Shirley.  Cindee has a very sick and very old dog, Georgie, who needs to be let go.  She is so emotional about him (well, aren't we all when a fur-baby is sick) and her husband is so busy at work that she feels a little abandoned.  I told her that I would help her however she wants me to.  I can take him to the vet for her, or be with her when she has to do it.  They are going on a business trip next week, and she doesn't want to leave him like this, so it is something that has to happen soon.  She knows it isn't fair to him.  Shirley also has an old dog who now can't use his back legs.  They have spent thousands on him recently (acupuncture and massage!) and they now have to lift him so he can do his 'business' and they have to make sure he gets water and food.  It's really sad when our beloved fur babies get old and infirm.  So...lunch was fun, but we had some pretty emotional conversations.

Well, that's more than five, but certainly fragmented!!  I wish you a good weekend and thank you for stopping by today!  Peace & hugs!

  1. Our two cats LOVE the Fancy Feast Broths....they're in pouches and kinda pricey, but if they are content and happy, I'll buy it for 'em.

  2. I only feed ours dry food and they seem to be thriving. Sad about the older fur babies....glad you have a non-busy weekend, to R & R.

  3. It seems lots of people's pets are really sick now. My friend Chris's cat is seriously ill, and you know how that is. She has come out from under the bed, but the vet doesn't think she has long. So sad!

I sure don't know anyone who likes doing income tax returns. Certainly not those who have to pay. Hope your day is going well.

  4. Many of us know just how tough it is to have pets aging and getting the problems that often follow. I am sorry for your friend. My rule of thumb is that it's time to let them go the minute they're in pain or miserable and have no hope of recovery. I think it's only fair and kind... but still very hard.

  6. I sure sympathize with you and the other ladies' re their pets. It is so hard. Hope you can find a diff. food that your 3 will eat. We don't have plans this weekend either. Sometimes, it's good to just take it easy. Hope you are feeling better. xoxo

  8. Glad most of the taxes are done for Joe and you, too. Everyone at our house gets a bit grumpy (er) during tax time....such a relief when its over. Still must be hard without Onyx, but his ordeal is over. Our little Daisy is doing better since we changed her kibble to Blue Diamond.and got the flea infestation under control. She's not upchucking anymore, and has even put on a pound. We're still experimenting with soft food for her. She doesn't eat some of the flavors and brands we've gotten for her....she used to scarf down ANYTHING....never picky, but I think her taste buds have changed with age and the kidney failure (which causes taste bud deterioration in adults). Enjoy the weekend. Hugs.
