Friday starts one of our busiest weekends of the year, for the Museum's staff. That said, Mayfaire is pretty amazing. We have 164 artists, who were juried in, from over 300 applicants. It is a process that begins before Christmas. Mayfaire is in the top 100 outdoor art festivals, and we are very proud of that. The artists like to call Mayfaire by-the-Lake, Bake by-the-Lake. It can be delightful weather the week before, but come Mayfaire weekend and the temps soar to the 90s. We just always pray that it won't rain.
For all the work, it is still fun. It is also always Mother's Day weekend. And it frequently falls on our wedding anniversary. Sunday, May 11th, will be our 29th wedding anniversary. We are actually going out to dinner tonight, to celebrate. When Mayfaire ends on Sunday, we always go to our favorite Chinese restaurant for Mother's Day. Hot, sweaty and tired....but that food tastes great. and it's not a dress-up kind of place.
I'm hoping my knees hold up, and the more stable brace I got will help. I guess I didn't tell you, yet, about my visit with my orthopedic doc on Monday. I got more cortisone in both knees, and a prescription for a new brace. I had to go get measured for the brace and it will take a couple of weeks to hear back from the company. At this point, though, I don't know if my insurance will pay for it, and I won't be able to afford it if we have to pay out-of-pocket. If I can get it, though, it will help with the pain. They even talked running.... Ha! I just want to walk through the grocery store and not feel like crying!
Say a prayer, please. In the interim, they gave me a brace to wear that helps to stabilize my knee. It has heavier metal and is hinged, but isn't as uncomfortable as that makes it sound. Wish me luck! To walk the festival is one mile, and I really need to be out there 2-3 times a day. I also have to run (walk!) money back and forth to the Museum's t-shirt tent and be available to write checks, including the award checks on Sunday. Last year, my walking was very limited. Hoping to do better this year.
Enough about that! Wishing you a good weekend! Blessings to you all!
Praying the rain stays away, and that the entire event goes well. Also praying for you and your knees. You know that I know that situation and surely the brace will help. Take pictures and share, but have a wonderful weekend.

ReplyDeleteOh Terri, I will be praying about the issues you are having with your knees. It is so tough to live with continuous pain. On a happy note, I hope Mayfaire goes great and that no one has to bake by the lake! I'd love to be there for that event. It sounds wonderful!

ReplyDeleteAdding my prayers to the list. When I was little I had to wear a brace, but it didn't stop me from running. Now I know it would. Mayfaire looks so exciting! I love craft and art shows.
ReplyDeleteWill be praying for you, Terri. Hope the brace helps, I know how much you love Mayfaire. Can't wait to see your pictures of the event....hope you guys have great weather for it.
ReplyDeleteCan you have knee surgery? Not sure what exactly is wrong with your knees but it sounds painful. So sorry to hear that. My father-in-law is 80 and just had a knee replacement and seems to be doing well so far.
ReplyDeleteMay 11 was a great day for a wedding!
