Tuesday Tidbits....

I was disappointed that the mist over the lake didn't really show up in this picture I took this morning, as I pulled out of the bank drive-through. It was eerie looking - Halloween-like!  It didn't rain, but it was sure over-cast and gray all day. Blecht!

Good day at work today, and I left an hour early to attend a meeting for the volunteers who will be helping with Lakeland's Honor Flight.  I am so honored to be part of this great program for our WWII Veterans. Joe and I will be working registration on November 10th, and again for flight day, the 12th. There are 80 Veterans signed up to go, and we are hoping for 2,000 people at the airport to great them when they return from Washington. Lots of work to do between now and then!

I think most of you (my 'old' blogging buddies, anyway) know about my bad knees. I have one that is bone-on-bone, and torn meniscus in the other one. Walking hurts. Every step I take hurts. It isn't excruciating, but it is bad enough that I don't want to walk very far, and steps are a killer. My orthopedic doctor keeps telling me I am too young for knee replacement. He keeps giving me injections - Synvisc and cortisone. One of Joe's clients, I'll call her AW, just had knee replacement and she is doing great. Her doctor is in the next town over and is supposed to be one of the best. I made an appointment for a second opinion.  Of course, insurance is now in the picture, as ours is changing at work. The new plan will cost more for me to have major things done. I have until November 30th on the current plan. Not sure anything can happen that fast, if the new doctor thinks I really am a candidate for replacement.

We have friends down in Naples, and Jenny is a physical therapist. She and I had a good talk the last time we were down there (for Jim's birthday party). She said I could surely go back to work in two weeks, with a walker, or in a wheelchair. That made me feel a little better.  I can't be off work for six weeks!  And AW is up and walking already, with no pain. Of course, I don't know how extensive her surgery was, or what mine will be...

To be continued as I learn more. I'm happy to hear about your experiences, if you have had knee surgery. I know LE had both done at the same time and is quite pleased. I know RW had one done, and has had some problems. Talk to me!!

Wishing you a good Wednesday (HUMP DAY)!! Thanks for stopping by! Peace, love & hugs.

I will warn you that the cortisone injections will cause your blood sugar levels to rise. Keep us posted.

  2. I had mine done at Emory about two years ago and my hip in 2005. The doctor said the new ones will probably out last me! It was the best thing I ever did. The pain changed who I was. Living every day like that was horrible. I have a life now and I'd have it done again if I needed it! Go for it. It hurts, but it was worth it.

  4. I was reading and then reading very quickly as I didn't really want to know what I might have to do about my knee. The knee seems to be responding to the walking an hour a day, but my hips get out of alignment. Old Age is a Bitch.

  5. I love it when there's mist or fog out. It does look eerie but it's kind of cool at the same time. Hope you get things worked out with your knee.

  6. Second opinions are good. Just make sure that there's not a secondary problem, such as the problem with a hip which is causing the problem with the knee.

  7. One of my mom's friends had her knees replaced and ended up staying in a nursing home for longer than expected but is out at last. But she was a lot older than you are. The older you are, the harder it is to bounce back. I would think that being younger would make you a great candidate.

  9. Yep, you knew I would say go for it. That pain you have now will be a thing of the past. Praying that it all works out for you before the insurance change. I have never been sorry.

  11. I've not had knee surgery but my sister-in-law has. She only needed the one and she got along just fine. She's had no regrets and is so happy to be pain free. I'm praying that this new Dr. can help you. It's always good to get a second opinion, especially when it comes to your well-being.

  12. Hope and pray that the comments you've got, along with a second opinion, help you decide. It's no fun not being able to be mobile.

Your photo reminds me of our Christmas weather. Yesterday we woke up to a heavy fog though. This is the time of year when our level of humididity goes up and I swear it't colder here than in the US.

  13. I've not had it done, but my sister in law had BOTH of her knees replaced and with the knowledge now-a-days in the medical field I would say it's well worth a 2nd opinion and expert advice. I do know that afterwards my SIL was never in any pain, and walked without a walker in less than 6 weeks!!

  17. Go for it, Terri. I phoned the doctor for a consultation the beginning of December and my hip replacement was on the 30th of December. It CAN happen. It would so great to be without that knee pain.

And the Honor Flight is such a worthy cause.

Thanks for the nice words about the baby blankie, Terri. :-)
