Whew, what a day!!

I didn't make it to the Museum this morning, for the breakfast event.  I didn't have a job to do for it, but was just going to check in for a few minutes.  I got up and got started on the wedding cake for our dinner, then got the sauce started.  By then, the event was starting and I was still in my PJs.  Put it out of my mind, and started cleaning this dirty house.  Between Joe being sick and my bad knees, not much had been done since before Christmas.

I got the cleaning done, and got everything ready for dinner, with time to spare.  Joe went to Mass, but I stayed home.  Asked him to pray for me.

We had a wonderful time tonight!  Everyone got here by 6:15, and no one left until shortly after 11:00!!  We just had a great time catching up, and everyone seemed to enjoy the food.  We had fun getting Fran and Bob to cut the cake and feed each other.  Fran took the top tier home, to freeze for their first anniversary.

Everyone helped clear the table before they left.  Joe helped me get all the dishes done and things put away.  The dishwasher is full, but there were still quite a few dishes to wash by hand.  It didn't take long.  Now I am sitting here with Joe, who is watching a football game he taped (Ravens and Denver).  It is 12:30, and I am exhausted, but can't just go to bed.  I need a little time to decompress!

So, here are some of the pictures I took.  The antipasto for before dinner, the cake, and the bride & groom.  The cake turned out okay.  I hadn't done any cake decorating for 17 years, and am a little rusty.  I told Fran it wasn't a thing of beauty, but it was a labor of love!  I totally forgot to take a photo of the ravioli lasagna, my really pretty salad and the yummy garlic bread.  But, these I did get....

And this one doesn't have anything to do with tonight's party, but I thought it was so pretty seeing all the white pelicans on Lake Morton a few days ago!  Took the picture and just forgot to share it....

Good night (or good morning!).  Wishing you a good Sunday!  Peace, love & hugs.

  1. Under no circumstances should you say anything but good, about your beautiful cake, the table looked lovely and I know your friends had a good time. It is exhausting any more to do things like that for me, but I sure enjoy seeing yours!

  4. Maybe it's the photo but the cake looks perfect to me. I love it! I'm curious about the icing though, because I've made this kind. Using normal vanilla, did it come out beige? It looks white in the photo. Anyway, you did a great job and hope you have a nice rest today.

    1. Brenda, I took a huge shortcut. When shopping at Party City for the cake top, they had Wilton Decorator Icing for sale, already made in tubs. I bought a tub of the icing, to save myself the mess of making decorator icing. It is, indeed, a beautiful white. In my cake shop, I always used clear vanilla in my icing. I'm sure using regular vanilla wouldn't make that much difference. The only thing it might do is affect the colors. Since I've not tried it, I don't know. The Wilton icing was not as tasty as mine would have been, but no one minded.
