T.G.I.F......

Thank goodness it's Friday!  It has been a short week, but hard getting back into my work routine!  I could sure get used to being retired..... (maybe in another six years).

It is quiet at work today.  Lots of people still have this week off.  Makes it nice to get caught up, though, and I am!  Happy to have left my cane at home this morning.  My knee is still painful, but I can walk slowly without making faces, so it is definitely better (LOL).  Still have my appointment with my ortho doc next week.

Joe was feeling much better last night, but he is still coughing a lot, and hurts from doing that.  He was going to try going to a client's office this morning, to do some payroll stuff for them.  Haven't heard from him, so hope he was up to it.  We are planning (if he feels okay) to go back to Mazarro's Italian Market tomorrow, since we missed them on our last trip to St. Pete (they were closed for the holidays).

Next weekend, the 12th, we are having a dinner party for some friends who sneaked off and got married just before Christmas.  Didn't tell any of us!  I am going to make them a 2-tiered wedding cake for dessert, after an Italian dinner.  This is our usual group of dinner party friends, so there will be eight of us.  Just right!  F and B have been seeing each other for 5-6 years, and have talked about marriage along the way, but just never did it.  He lives in Ocala (two hours away) and F is here.  F worked in Ocala for a time, and that is when they met.  Now they have been splitting their time between each home.  Not sure what they are going to do long-term.  Time will tell, I guess (or we'll find out next Saturday!).  One way or the other, we are all happy for them!  F is retired from the Sheriff's office.  She was a Lieutenant.  B is also retired law enforcement, from New Jersey.  They do have some stories to tell!!

The other two couples have also been friends of ours for a dozen years or more (more, I think).  M & ME - M is an Ophthalmologist, but works free-lance now, doing research on bio-medical stuff.  ME  teaches non-credit computer classes for adults at the local community college.  E & L - E is a retired engineer and L is a retired accountant.  They are retired because they won the Florida Lotto a few years ago ($22 million).  It CAN happen!!  They are doing it right, and are not changed at all (except for a new house and cars).  They have two great kids and six grandkids - all sweet as can be.  We are all blown-away happy for them.  Good  people.

So, I am looking forward to next Saturday.  Need to finish putting Christmas away first, though.  Joe has to get up in the attic to hand down the tubs and boxes so I can fill them up again.  Then, of course, they must go back up.  This will happen tomorrow and Sunday - I hope.

Wishing you a good Friday evening and a great weekend!!  Peace, love & hugs.

  1. Sounds like you have a nice lot of dinner friends. Congrats to the newlyweds! It always gives me hope when I hear these stories. I never put up a Christmas tree this year but I do have to put away the Christmas placemats and centerpiece. I think I might splurge and buy some fresh flowers for my table.

    1. Fresh flowers will brighten your apartment, Ruth, which will be good when you put your Christmas things away. So sorry we couldn't get together while you were down this time. Maybe next trip!

  2. Glad that Joe is better, but if he has a bad cough that can affect his rest. A home remedy to stop you from coughing at night is to cut an onion in half and put it near your bed at night. Any news about the cat?

    1. Brenda, we aren't taking the cat, for several reasons. Veronica is considering fostering him until she finds him a home. I'll try that onion tonight. It is affecting MY rest, too. Linda had some luck with the onion, also. Thanks for reminding me!

  3. Pleased to hear that Joe is feeling better and good news to that you are able to get around without your cane.

How lovely to have a nice little group of friends for dinner parties. We tend to only do that with family nowadays. Friends are all to far away.

  7. The news here tonight said the flu season started early. If you noticed more cases over the holidays, that is why. We did notice that. If I won 22 million I would pass out and then run away and hide in the woods for six months.

  9. Good to hear you and Joe are both doing some better. Just take it easy tho, and dont over-do. You have a great bunch of friends and I know you will have a good time when they all gather at your house. After Christmas is a let-down of sorts, so your party will be just the pick-me-up everyone needs! Have a nice weekend my friend. Hugs
