Our Pets Hold Our Hearts....
On Thankful Thursday, I am thankful to have our sweet Onyx kitty home with us tonight!
(I posted my concerns this morning on Facebook...)
He is plagued by sinus infections (and why I think mine came from him). We just finished giving him a full bottle of the antibiotic that we keep for when he gets a nasty nose. Yesterday, he seemed just fine. This morning, he was throwing up, was hot, and his eyes were not right. He was lethargic. A year or so ago, he developed a problem with his pancreas and was on IV drugs for four days. I saw similarities and is scared me.
Our Veterinarian, Dr. Jill Davis, makes house calls, and we usually have her come here, but she wanted to see Onyx at the clinic, so Joe took him in. They did blood work, and found his white count extremely high, so she wanted to do an x-ray and an ultrasound, to look for tumors.
Thankfully (and thanks for the prayers & positive energy from FB friends!), she saw no evidence of disease, other than the elevated white count. His lungs looked good, his heart looked good and there were no signs of tumors in the pancreas, gall bladder, stomach, etc. She gave him a shot of a strong antibiotic, and a steroid, as well as some subcutaneous hydration. We have a different antibiotic to give him twice a day.
He looks so much better (except for his shaved tummy). and is happily sleeping in his basket. He used the litter box when he came home, which as good to see, too.
So - sorry if this is TMI. I am an animal lover and we choose to live with cats. In the 24 years we have lived here, we have had eight cats. Four have gone across the rainbow bridge, and four are still giving us love, fun, and much pleasure.
Tomorrow, I am going down toward Miami, with Joe. He has a client there who requires an annual audit. Joe used to drive it himself, then he took the train down a couple of years, but a few years ago, I started taking a personal day from work, and I drive him down. I spend the day reading, napping, sight-seeing a bit. We have lunch together, and when he is finished, we head home. It's about a 3+hour drive, so it won't be an easy day, but thankfully I am feeling much better and am not concerned about the trip. I had a good day at work today. Our neighbor will come over to check on Onyx for us, and she will give them their dinner, since we won't be home until around 9:00 p.m.
I won't have wifi, and hate doing FB and blogging on my phone, so you probably won't hear from me until Saturday.
Thankful (on Thankful Thursday) that my friends in Tennessee did not suffer damage from the terrible weather there last night!!
Wishing you a good Friday! Peace, love & hugs!!

I'm so happy to hear Onyx is doing much better! Enjoy your day trip and I'll say a prayer for safe travels for you and Joe.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear that Onyx is going to be ok, and you have to be so relieved too. Hope you enjoy the day tomorrow, and will look forward to pictures and details of the day. Sending love your way, and a special hug for your fur baby!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely cat. A lucky cat too as he is well taken care of. I am so pleased that there was nothing found and hope that the antibiotics do the trick. You clearly love your cats the way we love our dogs. They are family members.
ReplyDeleteHave a good, safe trip tomorrow or is that today now?
That's quite a compliment for Joe and his ability. Most clients would want someone close by.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Onyx is doing better. Poor little guy. It's sad when they get sick and you fear losing them. They're our babies. I lost my kitty a couple years ago. She was such a sweetie. Loved to be close to me. I still miss her, but I'm not going to get another pet. It hurts too much when they die.
We have a friend in Georgia and we're thankful the storms missed them too. Nasty weather..
Safe travels today.
Hope Onyx continues to do well for as long as possible. He seems to be such a sweetie. Glad you're feeling better too.
ReplyDeleteOne of my cousins wrote on facebook that Fleming County (KY) schools were closed yesterday, but she's the only one I heard mention any bad weather.
So great Onyx is home with you. I guess I sort of forgot how wonderful having a pet can be until I got Nanook. I can sure see your love for your cats. They are blessed to have you to care for them. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteGlad Onyx is doing better.
