Monday's Missive....
December is flying by and it is nearly Christmas! Are you ready? I think I am, finally. Work today was good, though I left early for my doctor's appointment.
The MRI did show a tear in the meniscus, though it is a small tear, and not worthy of emergency surgery right now. They also saw the remnants of a Baker's Cyst that still appears to be leaking, and I have some bursitis (http://www.medicinenet.com/bursitis/article.htm), probably caused from the meniscus tear and not walking correctly - which probably also contributed to the Baker's Cyst (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bakers-cyst/DS00448).
Anyway, we have another appointment scheduled in three weeks to see how I'm doing. There is a good chance that my pain is from the bursitis and the Baker's Cyst, rather than the meniscus tear. If the shot of cortisone and lidocaine that I got today works and the pain goes away within two weeks or so, then we won't need to address the tear right now. That's what I am hoping for!! The bursting Baker's Cyst is what caused the initial and horrid pain, but the pain has now settled in the bursa, and I hope I am on the upside of healing now. No change in the pain level just yet, but I'm sure hoping for a change when I get out of bed in the morning! Fingers crossed!
Joe met me at the clinic, so he could go in with me. He said it's good that I was laying down when they stuck the needle in, because it was not pretty to look at....some kind of tube and then a bigger needle. Yikes. I'm surprised he could watch, actually! It did hurt, but actually not as bad as it has been hurting!
So, I'm taking it easy tonight. Later this week, I need to get another sponge cake made for an Italian Cream Cake. I will put it all together down in Naples, but need to get most of it done here. Kathy and Jim are planning a holiday get-together for Saturday night, and the cake is dessert. It will be a fun time!
Hope you had a good Monday and that the rest of the week goes well!! Peace, love & hugs.

Hope you wake up pain free.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Me too!
DeleteWell, the news is good, and hoping you wake up with the pain all gone, or at least almost gone. So glad that surgery isnt warranted at this time. Sleep good.
ReplyDeleteI checked out those links because I'd never heard of a Baker's cyst but I have heard of a popliteal. My sister went through something very similar with the meniscus tear. No wonder you were in so much pain. Hopefully you'll be feeling better now. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed that you can soldier on. We come from a different generation and work ethic don't we? I have cut back though on a few things. A cousin brought me some butter tarts today so I think I will cross that off my list of 'have to do before Christmas'.
ReplyDeleteMy heart is still so heavy for you folk in the USA as I am grieving and losing sleep over the 26 assaulted precious persons in CN. I still get waves of nauseau over it. We discussed it over/during the news again tonight and during the day with visitors. Unfortunately, we don't have any solutions for the USA except better mental health services and confining assault rifles to the military-use only.
You're getting to be an expert at making Italian cream cakes I think. I can only imagine that your injection was less painful than your knee. Please tell us tomorrow your pain is a lot better. I've got more Christmas bags to fill with goodies, so it's back to work for me.
ReplyDeleteRest well and prayers for no more pain.
ReplyDeletePrayers continue you for you Terri! It sounds so painful..I sure hope the shot gives you some relief!
