The Last Sunday of 2012....

Today was a great day. The only thing that would have made it better is more time!

We went to Legoland with my dear cousins.  The scooter worked great for me, and my cousin's wife, Patti, rented one there, so we scooted happily along all day!  I will post all of the Legoland photos at the end of this post.

I forgot to post the pictures of our church's alter, decorated for Christmas, so here they are:

I am remembering my mom, today.  We lost her on December 30, 1995, after a long battle with cancer.  A year later, on this day, my younger brother was diagnosed with cancer.  I lost my dad on December 12, 1989, and Joe's mom died (heart) on December 27, 1999.  For a long time, we didn't look forward to December.  Now, we just feel the love in our hearts.  December doesn't make me sad anymore.  Love them and miss them, but know they are at peace and no longer in pain.  I will see them again one day.  Counting on it.

Cancer sucks.  So does heart disease.

Our weather was sunny and beautiful, today, if a little cool.  We kept our jackets on all day, and could have used gloves in the early morning!  I don't own gloves anymore!!  I looked for the sun when parking the scooter while the kids rode the rides.  It was all about Tia (7 yrs old) and Tatum (5 yrs old) , but the big people had lots of fun, too!

Notice that the miniatures are all made from Legos, and all of the characters and animals sitting around are made from Legos, including the red full-sized car.  Just amazing.

We have no exciting plans for New Year's Eve or for New Year's Day.  We never go out for NYEve, first because we are old and too tired, second because there are too many drunks driving.  We will actually put Christmas away tomorrow, and clean the house.  It hasn't been cleaned really good since my knee problem started.  Joe did a couple of quick once-overs, but it needs a deep cleaning.  It must be done.  I will also do laundry.  We will go to Mass at 4:00, for our Holy Day of Obligation - Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord; Solemnity of Mary; and the Holy Mother of God.  We will have Chinese for dinner, after Mass, and then come home to watch the special on Dick Clark.  If we stay awake, we will see the ball drop on Times Square.

New Year's Day, we will have the Rose Parade on TV, and probably some football.  I have a pork roast to cook, with kraut and black-eyed peas....all for good luck in 2013.  Not very exciting, but a good way to bring in the new year - with a clean house, clean clothes, and worship.

What traditions do you have for NYEve?  When I was growing up, my cousins and I would play Monopoly for hours.  It was a must do.  LOL

Peace, love & hugs!!

  1. Good morning, Terri! Looks like you all had a wonderful time at Legoland! I can't believe that we will be saying good-bye to 2012..I sure wish I knew what the secret was to slow down time just a bit..haha. Wishing you and Joe good health and happiness in 2013! Walt and I will be having a very low key New Years Eve. Renting movies and having Chinese takeout:-) Hugs and love to you!

  2. Thanks for the pictures and I know you had a good time. Your church is beautiful, and I was especially drawn to the blue stained glass windows. I have a stained glass piece that was in a church at one time, and also a bowl that is stained glass. We dont dare go anywhere on New Years Eve....too dangerous. You dont know who is too drunk and driving or more, and these days I am in bed by 8 or 8:30, so will miss the ball dropping. I am betting that 2013 will come anyway! I wish a very Happy, Healthy New Year to you and Joe.

  3. Legoland looks fun. One of my fave things to do in FL is go to the Lego store in Downtown Disney. All the Lego sculptures outside are neat. Maybe our next trip down there we can go see Legoland.

Have a safe, happy New Year!

  4. When I was young(er), I always went out on NYE and stayed out all night having the traditional chocolate and churros in the morning. Now, like you, I only want to stay at home. I'll still dress up and wear new red underwear (a Spanish tradition) and eat 12 grapes at midnight (another tradition).

How great to have a scooter buddy! Too bad it wasn't warmer. Oh how I wish I could see that Dick Clark special! Perhaps someone will put part of it on You Tube. Happy 2013!

  5. So glad you had a good day with the kids at LegoLand. Your pictures are great. It's amazing how they created all those things with Legos. I loved the miniatures. The girls must have had a great time. Too bad it was so chilly for you. It was only 19° here in OH, maybe that news would have made you feel warmer. :)
Your new years eve sounds a little like our's. We stay home for the same reasons and we have no plans.
    Happy New Year.

  6. Hi Terri, Finally getting a few minutes on my daughter's computer. It was been a very quiet stay here in Florida so far. I am still recovering from the flu that I got the week before I left Michigan. My other daughter is still sick with it and heard that it lingers for about a month. Tonight we will probably have a family evening here at my daughter's house. They don't have any New Year's plans...all for the best as just going out to Sam's today wore me out. Have a Happy New Year!!

  7. Beautiful scene at your church. So sorry for all your losses. I agree that cancer and heart disease suck. I have lost way too many loved ones to cancer. Looks like your trip to Lego Land was nice. Happy New Year sweet Terri. Thank you for being my friend. Hoping 2013 brings you all wonderful things. Hugs

  8. I agree....Cancer sucks....and I hate using that expression, but it is succinct at some times. Or as a grandson once said as he watched his grandma dieing of cancer, "Cancer is STOOOOOOPPPPIIIDD." He felt helpless as we all do in the face of a battle with small cells we can not see but are so devastating.

  10. I got confused at the begining of this blog as I didn't know you had a Legoland in Florida. I thought England was the only place! It looks amazing. I have never been.

We don't really celebrate the new year either.
