A couple of bloggers here have been posting about meal planning, and posting the 'menu' for each day of the coming week. Do any of you do that?
I see the value of doing it, I'm just not sure I can change my 'cook-by-the-seat-of my-pants' or my 'hope-that-Joe-will-be-up-for-going-out-to-dinner' plan.
I can see that it would save money (probably lots of money) and would take the guess work out of 'what will I make tonight', and would make grocery shopping more meaningful (if grocery shopping can be meaningful). There are things I would like to make, but don't have everything needed, so I do something else. I know it would make sticking to a diet easier, too. Seems like a win-win thing to do.
If you do it, do you sit down on a Saturday or Sunday and plan it out, including a grocery list?
I'm wearing this one out, but I have been giving it some thought, and am thinking this might be a challenge I'll take on.
Work was "normal" today. I'm looking forward to getting together with Kris, for breakfast, on Thursday! We haven't seen each other for a couple of years, and I'm glad it is working out while she is in Orlando this time!! Kris was the second Multiply friend I met in person!! It will be a short visit, but a good one!
The new mattress gave both of us a good night's sleep last night, by the way. I think it is a keeper!!
Wishing you a good night and a good Wednesday! Peace, love & hugs.
So glad you like your new mattress! I have done meal planning in the past, a week at a time, and have recently started it up again - 2 to 3 weeks at a time depending on how paychecks fall in relation to day of the week (dh gets paid on 1st and 15th, not same day of week). I LOVE it. I don't yet have a specific day I do it, but fairly close to grocery day (Fridays). I get out my planner, so I know what we have going on and what nights need to be crockpot/quick nights or what nights we will need to plan for eating out. I have also been holding onto past weekly menus for two reasons - so I don't repeat things too soon and to help me remember newer dishes that I might easily forget. I think it's worth a try!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a successful mattress purchase!
ReplyDeleteI fly by the seat of my pants in the kitchen too. I don't do menus except for holidays. I shop the sales, and if I see a bargain meat, I'll get that and decide at home what to put with it ...
I just want to crawl into that bed and try it out. Bump over brother.....
ReplyDeletePlanning a week's meals as another job on the weekend was difficult. I worked it out when the kids were in speed-skating to shop for a week on Tuesday when they we at a practice and organize the meals on Wednesday. So the meals I had to plan were only really for Wed and Thurs......the Friday and Saturday ones were still on the fly, and Sunday was a real family meal. That left Mon and Tues. So really it came down in the end to planning 2x2 meals. lasagne is not a treat if half is eaten the next week....nor is curried chicken....or home-made spaghetti
I'm sure meal planning would save money and probably time too. I only try to have two good meals a day, one of them being breakfast. I'm always hungry in the morning. Besides, breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day. Lunch is still the biggest meal in Spain, and I don't usually get to have dinner until 9 or 10 at night, so it depends on how hungry I am or if I'm having dinner out as to what I eat.
ReplyDeleteHope your mattress gives you restful nights for years to come.
I don't meal plan but I could see that it could be a time + money saver. Glad your new mattress is comfy. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteNope, cant meal plan here.....if I want something, Jim doesnt and vice versa, so we just take it day by day....if it is here, we cook; if not, we go out. So glad the mattress was what you wanted. Be sure and tell Kris hello from me and have a good visit. Pictures for sure!
ReplyDeleteI never seem to be able to stick with meal planning however I do it sometimes for a period of time . Too many things kind of have a way of rearranging plans. I'm pretty much impulsive sometimes. It can be fun and good and other times I wish I was more organized.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same - I want to do it but it seems like too much work and planning. lol!! I should do it though.
ReplyDeleteCan you see my blogs and comment on them? I'm still trying to solve all the problems that I'm dealing with as far as settings, etc.
I go in spurts with planning out my meals for the week. My house can get crazy with everyone's schedule being so different and sometimes it is a waste to make a big dinner when it ends up being just Walt and I.
ReplyDeleteI planned my menus out a week at a time including the shopping list for years and years. We had 5 children so money was tight and this helped me budget. It was also important that I was very organised back in those days and knowing what I had to cook helped. Since the children have grown up and there are only the 2 of us i have got lax with my planning. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I run out of things now and I NEVER ran out of things!
