Monday's Muse....

The first day of the week is behind us!!

Today, October 15,  is the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Avila.  Since my "real" name is Teresa (without the h), I thought I would mention today's Feast Day.  St. Teresa of Avila is the Patron Saint of Headaches.  This means, when you have a terrible headache, you can ask St. Teresa to intercede for you and pray for you, to help ease the pain.  Some people think that Catholics pray to the Saints, but what we do is ask them to pray for us, the same way we ask our living friends to pray for us.  We don't worship the Saints, but we do ask for their help.  The Angels and Saints play an active part in my life, and I am thankful for their help!  Do you believe you have a Guardian Angel?  We had this picture hanging in our upstairs, when I was growing up.  (I was raised in the Methodist church, by the way.)  It always brings me comfort!

I spent most of my day, today, again working on bank reconciliations.  Happy to say they are ALL done, and tomorrow I can get started writing the September financial reports.

At lunch time today, a few of us from my department went to a special luncheon at one of the downtown restaurants.  One of our most wonderful and reliable volunteers is moving to up-state New York, to be closer to their daughter and grandkids.  Sure hate to see her go.  Her husband was a Docent for us, for three years, so he has a history with the Museum too.  We had lots of laughs, and there were a few tears shed.  We will miss Betty (and John).  She has given us hours and hours and hours of her time.  They promised to stay in touch.

Betty & John, reading the card.

Elaine, Betty, Danielle, Terry, and John

Pal and Bill (and I) were there, too, but opted out of the photos!

On to Tuesday!  Wishing you a good week!  Peace, love & hugs!!

  1. I do believe we have a Guardian Angel. Lauren believes that she has actually seen hers on a couple of occasions. I'm glad you explained what Catholics believe when it comes to Saints. There are so many misconceptions about the Catholic church. Another one that many people believe and one that I find funny is that we worship statues..LOL.

I'm sure it's bittersweet to have to say goodbye to Betty and John but how nice that they will be moving closer to be near their daughter and grandchildren:-)

    1. Kris, when I was going through classes, to become Catholic, the Priest talked about how others believe Catholics worship statues and icons. He explained it this way... You have photos of your grandparents, your parents and your children sitting and hanging in your house, and in your photo albums. The statues are just like photographs, to remind us of our loved ones. We don't "worship" them, any more than we worship a photo of grandma, but it is nice to see the faces of our loved ones. That's all it is - a reminder, so we can 'see' a face or figure and recall what that person means to us. Made perfect sense to me then, and still does today.

  2. I am not familiar with the Saints but love learning about them. I never thought that Catholics prayed to statues...gee whiz...but as people have misconceptions on mine, I am sure there are those that do for you too. I do believe in angels and as you said, I ask people here to pray for me, just as you ask the Saints and Angels to do so for you. It is sad to see a friend leave, but they will be happy being closer to family.

  3. I'm not familar with the Saints but having someone to help with headaches can only be a good thing. Migraines suck!

That's sad that your friends are leaving but I'm sure they will be happy being nearer their kids.

    1. Think of St. Teresa, next time you have a migraine. Maybe she will help!

  4. Happy late Saintts' Day,, Terri. I hope your friends will be happy up North, because people usually want to move to warm Florida. Being close to their grandchildren will be worth it.

  5. I was not raised in any church, so when Bob asked me to marry him, I joined the Catholic church for him so we could be married in his church. It was wonderful. I'd never felt anything like it. The feeling of peace and worship when I entered church has always stayed with me.
I also believe in a guardian angel. The Bible says God "gives his angels charge over us"
Hope you have a great week.
