Fun, Fun, Fun
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song is about a girl who borrows her father's Ford Thunderbird. When was the last time you drove someone else's car? Probably 10 years ago, when Joe still had his car.
2) The teen in question is well known for the ability to drive "like an ace." If we were to ask your high school classmates what they remember most about you, what do you think they'd say? I was good at art and playing trumpet.
3) She told her father she needed the car to go to the library, but used it instead to meet friends. Can you recall a time your parents caught you in a fib? Nope. I was the firstborn and don't remember telling a fib to my parents. Seriously.
4) For this girl and her friends, fun centered on cars and fast food. What did you and your friends do for fun during your teen years? Made no-bake chocolate cookies, watched Chiller Theater on Friday nights, and listened to music on a portable record player.
6) As in the song, the disc jockey punished his daughter by taking her driving privileges away. Were your parents strict when you were growing up? Yes. Always with love.
7) This song was recorded on January 1, 1964. The Beach Boys had to work on the holiday because they were under pressure to meet a February release date. How did you spend New Year's Day 2026? I had lunch with my friend, Cheryl, at Miller's Ale House.
8) 1964 was a great year for Capitol Records. They had chart-topping hits by the Beach Boys, Barbra Streisand, and, most spectacularly, The Beatles. The Capitol Records Building in Los Angeles is considered iconic, and it's a stop on tourist bus tours. Have you ever been to Southern California? If yes, what did you do? I have never been to California, north or south, and have no desire to go there.
9) Random question: What's the last compliment you received? I posted a new cover photo on FB, and several people mentioned how great I looked. I don't usually take compliments seriously, and I am not comfortable when compliments are given. Just a thing.
Thanks for the smiles, Terri. Wishing you a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI like the Beach Boys! Good answers. I really did like your FB photo!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I don't like that FB puts a new cover photo change into my feed. It looks like I'm asking for comments and I'm not!! LOL
DeleteI say your photo on Facebook and it was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you were great at playing the trumpet.
ReplyDeleteAhh! I was a naughty teenager and was always getting caught out fibbing to my parents. Oops.
I was good when I borrowed my parents' car! lol The songs by the Beach Boys are a direct link to my youth!
ReplyDeleteI love your new FB photo, Terri. And yes, I can so identify with feeling like I'm fishing for compliments. (Puleeeeze!)
ReplyDeleteIt used to feel like my parents kept me under their thumbs, but in retrospect I'm glad they did. That song (Edmund Fitzgerald) never fails to stir me; not sure why, but I can listen to it often.
Dear Terri, I love that song. I love the Beach ⛱️ Boys.
ReplyDeleteI need to find you on Facebook! I hope you have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteTerri Kelly D'Orsaneo
DeleteI have no desire to go to CA either.
ReplyDeleteAnita answered the Wreck of the Edmuind Fitzgerald and I had to look it up, but I had definitely heard it. I did not realize the lyrics though, so I went down a rabbit hole learning about it yesterday. :)
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is such a good song! Sad, but good.
ReplyDeletePortable record players, we could spend hours playing all the best records! Of course, now we play vinyl on our turn tables. :)
Born and raised in San Diego we visited L.A. often. I have seen the Capital Records building, but have never been inside.
A great post. Have a wonderful week Terri!
I always loved the Beach Boys, Terri, and this was a fun, fun, fun song! LOL! Sorry I'm so late to the party, but here it is, Monday morning, and I'm just now seeing it. Hope you have a great week!
