Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 650
2. A favorite quote, verse, or song lyric with the word earth in it? Carole King's
3. What's the most trivial thing about which you have a strong opinion? Leaving dirty dishes in the sink. Rinse them and put them directly into the dishwasher! Thank you.
4. What's your most commonly used kitchen utensil or tool? What's the last thing you made using that tool? The microwave and a knife, I guess.
5. Marilyn (Memphis Bridges) gave me a great book of 3000 questions, and I'm going to try to use one in our Hodgepodge every week. Here is today's -
What is your greatest extravagance? Currently... I just bought a new bed yesterday, and spent more than I wanted to, but... My current TempurPedic is beaten down and no longer comfortable. It can't be flipped over like a normal (old-time) mattress could be, to extend wear. I also don't need a massive king-size bed now. It's just me, and it's time. Well, the cats will have to adjust to less room on their side...
In my lifetime, other than buying homes, our trip to Italy was an extravagance. We really couldn't afford it, but I wouldn't change going on that trip for anything.
6. Insert your own random thought here. My sister-in-law, Jo Anne, is coming for a visit next week!! She arrives on Monday and is here until Thursday. We stayed at her house when Joey and I went to Ohio last September to deliver my mom's cedar chest to my niece. That's also when we went to the Sweet Corn Festival. I'm looking forward to spending a few days with her!!

There is love in my family tree.
I love my family; they love me.
Some were born before me;
Some will follow after.
We are joined together happily.
There is love in my family tree.
As I search in my family tree,
Stories of courage inspire me.
Finding my relations,
Linking generations—
That is what the Lord expects of me
As a branch in my family tree.
There is love in my family tree.
Heavenly Father has promised me
We can be together,
Feel His love forever—
Sealed together for eternity
As a part of His family tree.

I hope the new mattress is a good one. That's always a big thing and you never really know until you sleep on it!
ReplyDeleteHooray for fun with Joann!
Theme parks are great but they are so expensive now. We used to love them when my girls were little. I don't think the new bed sounds like an extravagance, it sounds like a really sensible buy. Have a wonderful time with your sister in law.
ReplyDeleteI borrowed your poem Terri. I really liked it. Yes, you do need a new bed. Have a good time with Joann.
ReplyDeleteWell, friend, you said it is just you (and the cats)....then who is leaving those dishes in the sink??:) I know who does so at my house (um, me....and my husband shares your opinion, lol!)
ReplyDeleteDear Terri, I really like your poem. I hope the new mattress is good. I purchased a new mattress a few months ago and am very happy with it. I got a good price too, which is always nice.
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer: That is not my poem. Sorry I neglected to list the author.
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, I should have worded my comment like this...I like the poem you are sharing. Thanks for the clarification.
ReplyDeleteOh, good for you buying a new mattress! I do hope it will be very comfortable and last you for the rest of your life! At this stage in life, unless you or you have some unruly grandkids/great grandkids or cats jumping on it like a trampoline, (LOL)it should last a long time! So, yes, who is leaving the dirty dishes in your sink? We don't have a dishwasher anymore, so I do try to get our dishes washed up as soon as we eat. I don't like leaving them sit either. And you saw how sweet my son was to jump up and wash the dishes for me when you were here to visit. We probably could've waited a bit longer, but he offered to go ahead, so I thought I'd better take advantage of that offer while he was there and willing! LOL. Oh, I'm happy for you to have your SIL coming for a visit. I know you will have a great time. I love the poem too. Family is very special. Have a blessed time!
ReplyDeleteI don't leave them in the sink. It is when I have people here and I don't get upset with them because it's not their kitchen. It just bothers me if there are dirty dishes in the sink or on the counter (even at someone else's house). It is trivial!! xo
DeleteThe older I get, Terri, the more I detest crowds, too. A new mattress is a wise buy, especially when yours has become worn out. When Danny and I first got married, he had a water bed if you can believe it. Sleeping on it wasn't great for my breathing; I thought I might need a C-pap! Luckily, we have a wonderful regular mattress that gives us support and a restorative sleep. Oh, and by the way, our kitchen sink is clean! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a Tempurpedic king mattress too that I hope we can get some more years out of.
ReplyDeleteI 100 % agree about the dishes in the sink when they could just be put in the dishwasher. I remember threatening our teens that I would put saran wrap over the sink so they couldn't do that, hahaha!
I love theme parks but they are quite expensive, and not as much fun with just us old people. LOL I think a good bed and mattress is a very necessary extravagance, and that most people would agree that travel is a worthwhile extravagance too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your answers today - hope you're having a great week!
I enjoyed reading your answers.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about theme parks--they’re magical with little ones, but the crowds and costs do take away the fun as we get older.
This was such a fun Hodgepodge. I am right there with you on the dirty dishes; rinsing and putting them straight into the dishwasher saves so much headache later. It makes a huge difference. A new bed is a wonderful extravagance. There is nothing like a good night's rest, even if the cats have to share a smaller space now. That trip to Italy is a treasure too; those memories are truly priceless. How exciting that Jo Anne is coming to visit! It looks like you all had a great time together in Ohio last year. I hope you have the best time catching up! Peace and hugs back to you!
ReplyDeleteMattresses are crazy expensive and I too find it annoying that you often can't flip them like you used to. Ours is customized and the two sides are not the same, plus the mattress is so heavy. It takes two of us to make the bed! Enjoy time with your sister-in-law!
ReplyDeleteI am now humming that song :-)!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your answers. A new bed is wonderful and definitely worth investing in what feels good. Enjoy your sister in law
