Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 649

From this Side of the Pond

1. Big week in the US of A...do you do your own taxes? What's something you've found 'taxing' lately?  My son, Joe, is a CPA and has taken over doing my taxes for me.  My Joe was a CPA, so I never had to do my taxes.  (Maybe I should also mention that my first husband was an IRS agent who did our taxes.)  Yes, I'm an accountant, but my career was spent in the non-profit world.  I didn't have to do tax returns.  I think I could figure it out if I had to.

2. When it comes to travel, are you a last-minute packer or a lay it all out a week in advance type? Do you struggle to pack light? Share a packing tip that has worked for you.  I am somewhere between last-minute and laying it out a week in advance.  If I am flying, I struggle to pack light.  Driving... the car will be full!  I don't really have a "tip" to share, but I don't take more than one extra pair of shoes, I don't pack a lot of jewelry, and I don't pack clothing that wrinkles (in the car, I hang tops and bottoms).

3. April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Hmmm...who knew it got its own month? Do you like a grilled cheese sandwich? What ingredient do you add to take yours to the next level?  Joe loved grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.  I don't care for tomato soup, but I will eat a grilled cheese now and then.  I put dill pickles on grilled cheese!!

4. There's a well-known quote that says-

'A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for." John A. Shedd

Is constant growth necessary, or do you think it's more important to prioritize stability and peace in your life?  I am working through my 75th year.  Stability and peace are topmost in my life these days.  We can always learn something new and continue to grow spiritually, no matter our age, but I hope it brings more stability and peace!! :)

5. Let's wrap this up with a fun spring this or that-

  • Daffodils or tulips  I love to see both growing outside
  • lemonade or iced tea  iced tea
  • gardening or hiking  neither, but an easy walk is nice
  • ladybugs or butterflies  both
  • umbrella or raincoat  umbrella (coats are too hot to wear in FL)
  • floral patterns or polka dots  I like both in moderation

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I walked with Susan yesterday and plan to walk with Susan and Sandy this morning!  Sharon is away until Thursday. I'm still coughing and blowing, but feeling better, and the coughing quiets for longer periods of time.  Thanks to those who have lifted prayers!  I'm on the mend!

Peace and Hugs!

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

  1. I love grilled cheese and tomato soup. Bob isn't a fan of tomato soup, but he is the grilled cheese master here! :)
I'm so glad you are starting to feel better.

  2. I she had her druthers, I think my mother would have chosen a grilled cheese sandwich every night. I can still see that block of foil-wrapped Velveeta sitting on the kitchen counter, the aroma of butter melting in the cast-iron skillet. (No, I'm not a fan.)
Like you, stability and peace are paramount in my life. Like it or not, every day's a school day.

  3. Stability and peace sounds good to me, too, Terri. I do like a good grilled cheese sandwich, but don't make them as often as I used to. Glad to hear you're on the mend!

  4. I'm glad your cold seems to be improving. A nice walk in the rest air is good for as well as all that vitamin D.
I'm into peace and stability, too with Jesus at the helm.
The grilled cheese with a dill pickle sounds good!

  5. I love grilled cheese sandwiches, and sometimes change it up with the addition of some dijon mustard, and/or including a slice of ham. Grilled cheese sandwiches were a specialty of my late husband. He often made them for our Sunday night supper.

  8. How great that your son has taken over doing your taxes! They sound so stressful to deal with. In the colder months my girls have grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup at least once a week for lunch. That's good you are out walking again and feeling a little better.

  9. So glad you're starting to feel better Terri. I am too. Great to have an accountant in the family who can do your taxes for you. I like both toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup but not together thank you. Don't beat yourself up about how much you read. Reading something is better than nothing. I may have read a lot of books but it's also over a long period of time. My Goodreads records go back to at least 2008.
