Mambo No. 5
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
8) Also in 1999, Walmart opened its first store in the UK. Do you often shop at Walmart? No, because they are always so crowded and there is never a parking place close to the door.
Saturday 9: Mambo No. 5 (1999)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Lou Bega namechecks a lot of women in this song. Is there an Angela, Pamela, Sandra, Rita, Monica, Erica, Tina, Mary, or Jessica in your life? All of them, but Jessica!!
2) Can you think of a song that includes your first name? I didn't think so, but went looking and found this one... LOL
3) Lou sings that flirting is like a sport. Do you enjoy flirting? Not anymore.
4) While Lou Bega's recording became a big hit worldwide, it enjoyed great popularity, where it was used during televised cricket matches. Do you know anything about the game of cricket? Only what I've seen on British TV, and that it can take hours and hours and hours to finish a game (maybe days!).
5) When Lou was riding high with "Mambo No. 5," Cher invited him to open for her on her 1999-2000 tour. Cher has more than 50 hit records, two television series, a Broadway show, and an Oscar under her belt. Can you think of another performer who has succeeded in so many areas of entertainment? I asked AI... Helen Mirren, Al Pacino, and Jessica Lang have all won a Tony, Emmy, and Oscar. There are others, as well.
6) Lou turned 50 in April of this year. Are you soon celebrating a big birthday (one that ends in a 0 or 5)? Not until 2026.
7) In 1999, when "Mambo No. 5" was on the radio, the movie American Pie premiered and was so popular that it inspired three sequels. Have you seen any of the American Pie films? I didn't even know there was one movie, let alone three. I'll have to look it up.
8) Also in 1999, Walmart opened its first store in the UK. Do you often shop at Walmart? No, because they are always so crowded and there is never a parking place close to the door.
9) Random question – Have you recently fallen asleep somewhere other than your bed? If yes, where did you doze off? I am not a 'napper,' but I did doze off in my recliner earlier this week while watching TV with a cat on my lap. We were cozy, and I was tired.
Peace and Hugs!
Our kind and faithful Shepherd He,
Who will set all His people free
From all their sin and sorrow:
Only by grace, by grace alone.

I enjoyed your answers. Napping in the recliner with a cat in your lap sounds sweet. Our cats aren't lap sitters, I guess because they are outdoor cats, and they just don't seem interested when I go outside and sit in one of the porch chairs. Blackie usually comes and scratches on the chair to let me know it is HIS territory now! LOL. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteI like that song and haven't heard it for some time. I never knew there was an American Pie movie either.
ReplyDeleteBob enjoys a short nap quite frequently. I'm not much of a napper, but it does feel good occasionally to just let yourself fall asleep in the chair! :)
Sleeping with a cat is wonderful, isn’t it? Our cats … I am Shadow’s person, she will sleep in my lap. No one else gets that honor. Duchess owns my boyfriend, and will cuddle up next to him.
ReplyDeleteI think I actually walked out of the American Pie movie. lol Hey I am a Sandra!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know.
DeleteI haven't watched the American Pie movies because I think they are kind of filthy. I doubt you would like them. Loved your answers! Have a great weekend.

That is probably why they haven't crossed my path. I will leave them alone!
DeleteI'm not surprised by Helen Mirran winning so many awards. She is a fabulous actress! Have you seen her in 1923, part of the Yellowstone series? Blessings, Terri!
ReplyDeleteI tried twice to get interested in Yellowstone but had to let it go. I haven't tried 1923, but do love her!
DeleteFun answers! I get dozy when Lena naps on my lap! lol
ReplyDeleteI think a comfy recliner and fur baby in one's lap is the best! I do a curb-side order/delivery from Wal-Mart each week, but no longer enjoy going inside ... so many other sad/rude humans -- and that's just the employees. (lol)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're enjoying a sweet Saturday!
I am seriously thinking of taking a nap and its nearly 5 pm, lol.
ReplyDeleteI went to Walmart yesterday - huge mistake. It was packed. We like a certain kind of Keto bread and we can only buy it in two stores - Walmart and Piggly Wiggly. There was a festival going on near the Pig, so I chose the other option. We also took a nap yesterday. We were exhausted!!
ReplyDeleteI love that song, such fun!
ReplyDeleteThe only song I can think of with my name is a very offensive one by the singer Eminem.
That is about the same as I know about cricket. lol. My dad loves watching it but it does drag on sometimes.
I've seen the first American Pie movie and I didn't know there was more.
We've never had Walmart here that I know of, they did buy the supermarket chain Asda but I don't think anything changed. They sold it again in 2021.
Not familiar with a movie titled "American Pie," just the song.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any American Pie movie, either. I enjoyed reading your responses, Terri, thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh, too funny that you found the guy who sings your name over and over again. I found him when I was working at the nursing home and would play him for the residents in memory care. They got a real hoot out of him. I play him now and then for someone in my current job and they like him, too. I enjoyed your answers, Terri. Have a blessed week!
