Monday has come around again. I still catch myself thinking I need to get up early for work, though these past few weeks I've needed to be up to let Mr. G in to work on the floors. He is putting the trim in the master bedroom today which means I can put most everything back in order when he finishes. The den/workroom is all that is left. I will get it emptied out and hope that he will be done in there mid-week.
I think he is as tired of this project as I am. He has done a beautiful job, but it has been much more time-consuming than either of us anticipated. Taking up the carpet in the guest rooms was expected, but then he had to remove the hardwood in the living/dining room and in the master bedroom which added days to the job. There were hundreds of nails in the living/dining room floors. He did little sections at a time and got all of the nails out. It was a huge job.
I mentioned before that I am sorting and purging. I found a folder full of photos and old newspapers that I took photos of before throwing them away. Here are just a few:
My mom made these dresses (I have shared this one before) for the sesquicentennial celebration in my hometown, Washington Court House, Ohio. It was their 150th anniversary of becoming a city and we were to be in the parade.
Our picture was in the newspaper!! Far right... I am pushing my sister in the stroller and our brother was walking with us (looking behind). I had forgotten about the newspaper and was so happy to see it again!
My great-grandmother, Emma Swiss, is who I only remember seeing her sitting in a rocking chair, making string balls. I was only four or so when she died, but I found this photo of her and was happy to see her standing in what was probably a flowering shrub. Rather stern-looking, but I didn't know her.
My two sisters and I when we were all younger and thinner!! This was at our brother's wedding, I think. We had jobs - guest book, cake cutting, etc. We cleaned up pretty good!! :)
That's how I spent my time on Saturday - photos and old papers. Sunday school and church yesterday. My usual two loads of laundry. I did shuffle a few things here and there but can't really put things away until he finishes the trim work today. This week I have a hair appointment on Wednesday. Granddaughter Lauren called me Friday morning to let me know she has had the flu all week and wanted to change our lunch to this coming Saturday. Of course, I agreed. She told me yesterday that she is feeling a little better now but still not back 100%. Hoping she is up for lunch on Saturday.
How was your weekend?
This is such an awesome post, Terri...I hope Lauren gets to feeling better soon. It's been 9 days for me and finally starting to get back to whatever normal is, smiles. Wishing you a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness - those were some wonderful photos - I think they really looked old because you were dressed up in older clothes. I have never seen a stroller like that before.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the pictures from the past - all seem like the people are stern - I truly think the goal was to look serious - my old photos are all the same too.
Yikes! Did blogger just eat my comment?
ReplyDeleteThat stroller is a contraption, indeed!! Your mom did a great job on your dresses! I hope your granddaughter feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the photos you shared here, Terri. It did make me nostalgic, for sure. Sorry to hear that Lauren has been sick, but here's to seeing her this coming weekend when she is doing better. Looking forward to seeing the floors all done soon, too. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhat interesting and fun photos you've shared here, Terri! LOVE the one of you three sisters at your brother's wedding. I like the fashion and hair styles of that time. I hope your flooring project does, indeed, get done mid-week, or at least by Friday. It's hard to have the home in such disarray for so long.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the old photos, the one of you and your sisters is a treasure. I don't have a sister, only 3 brothers that I loved/love dearly, but sometimes I think I missed out. ☺♥
ReplyDeleteOh, I am sorry your lunch date with the grands was postponed, but certainly for the best. I know how these "bugs" are that are going around, and it's no fun to be coughing and feeling punky when you want to visit and have a good time. So I pray she'll be much better next weekend. I love the old photos! So much fun to see them, especially newspaper articles where you were in them. What fun! I know you are ready to have that floor over and done with! Wow! It is a big project! You can celebrate your pretty new floor on Thanksgiving...I think you said you were having people there? I know it will look really really nice. Take care of YOU, and stay well!!
ReplyDeleteYou three were so pretty. I have been so overwhelmed with photos from the last 18 months. I had just taken care of all the videos when Mom fell and moved and I just thought I had a lot of photos. My my my, so so many things. I am sure you are ready to have the house done and back to normal. I remember getting so tired of the workers as they were repairing all of our leaks wight the skylights.it seemed as though it would never end.
ReplyDeleteyou are lucky to have all those photos for the memories...
ReplyDeleteAlways interesting to look back over old photos. Not sure the 2 pushchairs are the same. I hope your granddaughter is better by the weekend so that you can get together and hopefully the flooring will be finished by then too.
ReplyDeleteWow, I LOVE seeing these old pictures!! It's funny. I was going through a lot of my mom's photos last week and found some good ones to share with my cousins and sisters.
