Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows (1965)
Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.
1. In this song, Lesley Gore sings that sunshine is wonderful. It's hard to argue with that. Is it sunny where you are today? Sunny but cooler! I wore a sweater morning and evening.
2. Tootsie Roll is the world's #1 manufacturer of lollipops, and cherry is their most popular flavor. Do you have a sweet tooth? I don't crave sweets but if you put them in front of me I will eat them. If yes, what's your favorite sweet treat? Coconut custard pie; anything toffee or caramel...
3. According to the myth, you'll find a leprechaun's pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. If you suddenly, unexpectedly came into $100,000, what is the first thing you would buy? I would pay off some bills first and then perhaps some remodeling in the house...
4. She feels brighter than a lucky penny. Abraham Lincoln was the first person to appear on a U.S. coin when the 1909 penny was struck in honor of his 100th birthday. Thomas Jefferson is on the nickel, George Washington is on the quarter, and John F. Kennedy is on the half dollar. Without looking, do you know which President is on the dime? I think it is Roosevelt.
5. Lesley Gore was very popular in the 1960s, with 11 Top Ten hits. Most people don't know that, while she was making records, she was also attending Sarah Lawrence College and graduated with her BA in 1968. What's something most Saturday 9ers would be surprised to know about you? Gosh, my whole life is on view here. I haven't a clue.

6. She performed "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" in the movie Ski Party. Do you plan to ski this season? Nope. Went snow skiing once and that was enough.
7. This song was written by Marvin Hamlisch, who would go on to win three Oscars, four Grammys, three Emmys, a Tony, and a Pulitzer Prize. That's quite an impressive list! But we believe our Sat 9-ers are impressive, too. So give yourself an award this morning. (For example, Crazy Sam is now Meme Mistress of the Year.) Since the guys at work liked my chili enough to finish every spoonful yesterday, I will make myself the Chili Queen.
8. In 1965, when this song was on the charts, I Dream of Jeannie premiered. This supernatural sitcom, about an astronaut who finds a genie on a beach, competed for viewers with Bewitched, which was about an advertising executive who marries a witch. Do you prefer Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie? I watched them both so they must not have competed for time in my town. I liked them about the same. Now the reruns just seem silly, but they are still fun.
9. Random question -- Which would you rather have, tacos or pizza? Depends on my mood and how hungry I am. I love them both.

For my regular (long time) readers, I went to the clubhouse last night to play Nickels with the old "gang". Gosh, it was so fun and so good to see a whole bunch of the snowbirds back!! There were two tables of eight and we all hugged and laughed away the two hours we play. A little bit of the more normal life around here felt really good.
God is good!!

Oh, I remember Leslie Gore and her songs. She sang "It's My Party and I'll Cry if I want to"...and I lip sang it for a Miss FHA contest in H.S. I didn't win, but it was fun trying, if not a bit scary... I love that your neighborhood group is back and you had fun playing nickels last night. I am not familiar with that game, but it sounds like fun...but the fellowship with friends is the best part I am sure. Yes, I watched both I dream of Jeannie and Bewitched. They were both fun shows. Also Mr. Ed and some of the other silly shows from the 60's. Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore, etc., so many good shows back then. Clean and fun. They don't make them like that anymore, sadly. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. We will be at Dixie Cottage all day today. Praying lots of people show up! (and buy things! LOL). By for now. I gotta get a move on.
ReplyDeleteHi Terri: Music nowadays is not as great as it was when I was a teen, so much nude and fowl words it's a shame some female singers have to do this to get attention.
ReplyDeleteNut Goodie candy bar any day,and made by Pearson Canbdy in Minnesota.
Pizza its even good cold for breakfast.
It's a high of 16 today a not so warm day, brrrrr.

Yes, I even wore a long-sleeved shirt and a sweater to work yesterday, I like the cooler weather. smiles---I see where we used to live, they got 6 feet of snow. No thanks, lololol. ANYWAYS- have a great day friend. smiles
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of nice to wear a sweater for a change. I hope you have a beautiful weekend!
ReplyDelete#5, I feel the same way about myself. I doubt anything I post is surprising to anyone.

I loved that song back in the day, Terri, and now it's playing in my head - lol!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear, too, that the neighborhood gang is back together. If those snow birds live anywhere close to the Great Lakes, I KNOW they're thankful to be in Florida!
Blessings!
Hi Chili Queen! I could sure go for a bowl right now, but there's absolutely little room in the refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteI was such a fan of Lesley Gore. Good times, when you could understand the lyrics and sing along. Like you, I don't crave sweets, but crunchy/salty's a whole 'nother matter.
Glad to hear 'normal' is returning to Mas Verde!
My friends are making their winter trek down your way. Lucky you... cold finally arrived.
ReplyDeleteI remember that song.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed Bewitched.
Hooray for playing Nickels with friends again.
Well, that brought back a whole lotta memories for sure. So glad you had such fun at "game night" and seeing old friends. Nothing like it!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting that the gang got together to play Nickels! It's been ages since you last played. I am so glad you have your wonderful community.
