Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 472
1. Do you have a sister? I have two sisters. Tell us something about her them,
Patti is an elementary school teacher (42 years), is married to Greg, and is mom to artistic/talented Kelly. She is a cancer survivor, has the biggest heart you will find, and makes sure we get together as often as possible. She
is much loved by (not only her family) everyone whose life she has touched. I think everyone in Morgan County, Ohio, knows her. She is
teaching the grandchildren of some of her first students.
Tammy got our mom's crafting gene. She can just about make
anything out of nothing. She has a teaching degree and taught for a few
years but has also been a store manager, a merchandiser for Nabisco, and was
even a prison guard for a while. She lost her husband, Bruce, a year
before I lost Joe. She was his amazing caregiver after he had a major stroke and
made his last few years of life just the best they could be by keeping him at home.
If you don't have a sister, tell us about a friend who has been like a sister.
I am blessed by a BFF who is like a sister to me. I have written about Elaine many times. We have been friends for 60-ish years. We grew up across the street from each other and her family was mine too, and mine was hers. She has two sisters also and we all feel like family. This photo was a bunch of years ago and includes my brother (who died of cancer in 2003). This was at her parents' 50th wedding anniversary party. Judy, Peggy, Elaine, me, Tammy, Patti, and Randy is sitting... Elaine and her hubby, Jim, were here with us when Joe got sick and then died in the hospital. They were here last year with me over the first anniversary of his passing. Love her like my sisters.
Or tell us about a sister-in-law if you have one who is extra special. And yes, I have a wonderful sister-in-law (we leave off the in-law part), Jo Anne. She is a retired school teacher (taught in a Christian high school). She cared for my brother for many years as he bravely battled cancer. Her sweet kids were only 10 and 15 when Randy died in August 2003. She raised them to be caring, beautiful, Christian adults. Michael is a doctor now, doing his residency in Pennsylvania. He just got engaged to Megan. Sara has her PhD, just became a new mom of Ezra and her hubby, Matthew, is doing a Neurology Fellowship in Virginia. My brother would be so proud of them all (as am I).
Matthew, Sara, Jo Anne

2. Resister, assister, insister, persister...choose one of the words listed and explain how it relates to you and your life lately. Oh, I will pick resister... I have been resisting getting serious about a diet and I sure have resisted doing any exercise, using the oppressive heat as my excuse to not (at least) get out for a walk.3. Share a favorite song, book, movie, or television program that features sisters. Well, the only one that came to mind was "Little Women". I've not read it nor seen the movie but it's the one that I thought of first.
4. August 3rd is national watermelon day...are you a fan? Yes! I love watermelon. Do you like watermelon flavored candy? Not sure I've ever had it but my first reaction is "no". Besides eating the melon as is, do you have a good recipe made with watermelon? Other than in a fruit salad, no.
5. 'Tis August...what are three things you're looking forward to this month? I am just looking forward to getting through it so the weather will be cooler. July and August are hot and humid but two out of 12 months is doable. We just have to get through them... I don't have any special plans for August other than hosting my small group from church next week.
6. Insert your own random thought here. It's not really random, but I know how blessed I am with family and friends in my life. Thank you to those who visit here regularly and leave a comment. You are part of my extended family of blessings.

Peace & hugs!
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

OH, this was a great post, Terri! If I had time, I might do this one myself! I loved all the stories about your sisters, friend Elaine, and your sister in law and family. Your nephew has your smile, so I am sure he looks like his father (your brother). Beautiful family and wonderful story. As far as being a "resister" to diet, walking, etc., no one can blame you in this heat. It's been so oppressive this summer. We have not been able to walk as much either, but since we've been so busy with Dixie Cottage lately that has become our walk and diet. LOL. (no time to eat!) Hopefully things will calm down here soon now, and yes, we sure look forward to fall! Your last picture of you is so lovely! I enjoyed reading this post so much. Have a blessed rest of your week and all of August too!! Hope you can come up sometime soon to visit!
ReplyDeleteLittle Women is my favorite book of all times…I read it each year…love the movies. Love this post…
ReplyDeleteI love that last picture of you. Sisters are a wonderful thing! I forgot about Little Women. I've seen at least 2 movie versions of this and I've read the book...all were very good! Hope you have a good day!
ReplyDeleteHow blessed you are, being surrounded by all those amazing ladies! Having no siblings or anyone who might qualify, I had to recuse myself from play today. Intrigued, however, to see which of those words I most closely identify. It's a toss-up between Resister and Persister; darn difficult to do much in this oppressive heat.
ReplyDeleteI love your new selfie. My beautiful friend!
Nice post....what a nice family.
ReplyDeleteWatermelon - I like it but I don't like preparing it. It's so cumbersome and takes up a lot of space if refrigerated. These days I just buy the pre-cut kind in a plastic box from the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful family members, Terri!
What a beautiful post. You have a beautiful heart.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad I didn't miss this post. I loved reading about your family and Elaine's family! Yes, we really are blessed, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteYou are so blessed to have sisters and sisters! I enjoyed the pictures you shared today, it's always nice to see pictures of family and friends enjoying each other. I don't have any sisters and the sister in law I was closest to passed away some years ago. I still miss her. I think God blessed me when He gave me 3 daughters, they kinda make up for not having a sister.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely family Terri and I'm sure they're all really happy that you're a part of it.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about your sisters, sister-in-law, and friend!!
ReplyDeleteI commented on this one before, but who knows where it went? Blogger is funny lately.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I loved seeing all your family. And I said that it's no surprise that you are blessed with so many friends and loving family members, because you are always so loving, kind and sweet! And a blessing to those who know you in person and online!
