Saturday 9 Time...

Thank you to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join in HERE.

Lady of Spain

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Lady of Spain (1952)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here

1) The lyrics refer to serenading "Caballeros," which is Spanish for "gentlemen." Can you say anything to us in Spanish this morning?  I only know a few words here and there. I think I can count to 10.

2) Eddie Fisher sings that he's loved this lady since he first saw her. Do you believe in love at first sight?  It sure was for me when I met Joe.

3) He was drafted and served a year in Korea. Then he spent the rest of his active duty period as a vocalist for the Army Band, performing on military bases. (He was still technically PFC Edwin Fisher when he recorded this.) Did you ever play with a band? I did, from 5th grade to my senior year of high school. If so, what instrument? Trumpet.

4) From 1953 to 1957, Eddie hosted Coke Time, a TV variety show sponsored by Coca-Cola. What's your soft drink of choice?  I prefer iced tea or spring water but if I have to have carbonated, I'll choose diet Pepsi or diet Ginger Ale.

5) Though Coke Time is mostly forgotten today, Eddie was nominated for two Emmy Awards and won a Golden Globe for his work on the show. Have you ever taken home a trophy?  Not for winning anything.  My friend, Kalisa, got me a "trophy" for going on my first trail ride, on horseback.

6) Today Eddie Fisher may be best known as the father of Carrie Fisher. She made more than 50 movies and wrote 8 books. Are you more familiar with her as an actress or author?  I know her as an actress. Didn't even know she wrote books.

7) In 1952, when this song was popular, hamburger meat sold for just 53¢/lb. Is there any beef in your refrigerator right now?  There is quite a bit of beef in my freezer.  I just bought steaks and burgers.

8) Also in 1952, Mr. Potato Head became the first toy to be advertised on TV. What recent TV commercial comes to mind?  Jimmy "JJ" Walker, selling Medicare Advantage plans. I got SO tired of those medicare commercials.

9) Random question: If you could live within any TV show ever, which would you choose?  Bewitched.  Wouldn't it be fun to just wiggle your nose and have the housework done and dinner cooked?!!  I can dream!!

Peace & hugs!!
God is so good!

  1. I had no idea that Carrie Fisher wrote any books either, Terri. Wonder if they're worth looking into? I did play with our praise team for several years, if you can count that as being in a band - really loved it!
    Blessings for a great Saturday!

  2. Carrie Fisher wrote "Postcards from the Edge" which is a semi-autobiographical novel. It was also made into a movie. All those people need Christ. That's why their lives are such a mess.
Love At First Sight does indeed happen. It happened to me and Steve.
I'm not musically blessed but I did sang in Concert Choir in High School. Does that count? *giggle* It was such fun!
    Love & Blessings. xx

  3. It's a real wake up moment to see Jimmy Walker on a medicare commercial. When did all our hero's and icons get so old??? lol Now that you mention it, Bewitched could be fun for exactly those reasons. Have a great weekend, Terri!

  4. I agree in regard to #8--those commercials are annoying and not truthful at all. My mil gave them our phone number and they call like 10 times a day. Very annoying and they don't even speak English. I better stop there, grin.

Have a beautiful warm day, friend. smiles.

  5. I used to love Bewitched, too. That's a great choice! (All I could think of was Bonanza ... probably in part why I sat this one out.) I wonder if those Medicare spots aren't played so often, on purpose. You know, so we won't forget (LOL). I'm thinking of the super annoying Liberty Mutual -- walking around singing "LiMu, Emu" like a crazy lady.

  8. I date myself big time when I mention that I'll just "wiggle my nose" to get something done. The kids have no idea what I'm talking about. I cannot stand television commercials. We rarely watch tv, and mute during all commercials.

  11. Terri, Terri, Terri - all these years I've thought you were so wise and now you let me down. Diet Pepsi? No - it has to be Diet Coke! :) :) :)
I'll join you in Bewitched though!

  12. I remember my family not liking Eddie Fisher because he left Debbie Reynolds for Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie Reynolds was America's Sweetheart and they thought that was terrible. I do like listening to music from that time though. I watch Bewitched every day and agree that I wouldn't mind living there. Especially in that beautiful house they own. I would have to do something about Mrs. Kravitz and her spying though.

  13. My Tom used to play "Lady of Spain" on his accordion. Sweet memories.
