Thank you, Joyce, for today's questions! You can be a Hodgepodger HERE!
Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 438
1. Do you (or did you used to) watch talk shows? Yes. Which are or were your favorite? Before politics got in the middle of it all, I enjoyed Oprah and Ellen. I don't watch either anymore.
2. Would you describe yourself as resilient? Yes. If so what do you think makes you that way? My sisters and I often say "...the Kelly girls are strong" and I think we are strong but I am also strong in my faith and that is the key. If you answered no explain why?
3. What parts of life have surprised you the most? Being a widow took me by surprise. Explain. I doubt much explanation is required. I've been on my own before and am doing it okay again but there is a loneliness this time after 36 years of marriage to the man who knew me upside and down. I miss him. I miss his wise counsel. I miss his silly jokes and his laughter. I miss knowing he is there for me, as I was always there for him. I'm doing okay but I miss him.
4. Why do you live where you live? Joe and I moved to Lakeland because we were both tired of snow and ice and the DC rat race. My folks were snowbirds and spent winters in Leesburg (about an hour north of Lakeland). That was another consideration for location. Anyway, after 32 years here, there is no place I would rather live. I love Lakeland, my home, my church, and my friends. That is why I live where I live!!
5. A memory from this week that made you smile? It's only Tuesday evening as I write this, so much of the week is still ahead but I did laugh out loud at a few of the comics this morning. I just love Grandma & Grandpa Pickles. KitKat was Joe's favorite candy bar and I knew he would have also laughed out loud at this one...
6. Insert your own random thought here. I have an appointment after work today to get a new driver's license. It seems I need one with a star in the corner and must bring all manner of documentation to prove I am who I say I am. I think I have all the papers I need to make it happen but am still shaking my head at how ridiculous it all is (given the political state we live in now). Anyway, it is what it is. Wish me luck!!
Have gone through that several times…in 2018 was the worst having just moved to Indy…this year moving to Florida I had my envelope an inch thick…easy..l was thankful…good luck…it has been easier flying with the new license although not doing so during Covid …I was flying here four times a year and NYC also..
ReplyDeleteWent through that procedure of having to bring the kitchen sink to the DMV several years ago, Terri. Once you get that "official" license, you never have to repeat that procedure, thank goodness! I got a kick out of that cartoon, too. Kit Kats are a go-to candy for me.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
Mmmm Kit Kat's are yummy.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Your answer to #3 is perfect and verbalizes my thoughts about my loss as well.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord is getting us through this. He has provided and He is good. We are blessed even as we sorely miss our dear ones.
Having recently moved to a different state, it took us 5 months just to get an appointment at the DMV and then the tons of documents. I wonder how long before one won't be able to get a DL or an old one renewed without the VAX documents. You are so right, without God, this road would be impossible. Not lucky - just blessed!
ReplyDeleteHow annoying but I wish you good luck getting it done. It's always something! Take care and have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI was just singing that "Kit Kat Bar" jingle last night! It's a close second to Reese's as my favorite. I've never heard of that 'star' designation on a driver's license. Mine expires next April, so I'd better start acquainting myself with what's required. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteLucky you can make an appointment. I spent 7 hours waiting.....for my turn.
ReplyDeleteI think politics ruined a lot of those talk shows, honestly.
ReplyDeletePolitics and culture weirdness has ruined most of TV. I can't imagine how difficult it can be to lose a Spouse after so many years together. Happy that you have Jesus walking with you. ellen b. the Happy Wonderer.
ReplyDeleteI am going to keep saying this until you and Barbara can fully understand/comprehend ((grin))--YOU ARE BRAVE! I am simply in awe of you both. Period.
ReplyDeleteP.S. NY mandates/requires you have a Enhanced License; it has all your info/passport to cross into Canada. Guess what? One can not cross into Canada now because of Covid (unless your vaccinated)--well, I want my $80 back. LOLOL---just saying.
It is mandated here now as well. Mine was due for renewal so had to get the enhanced one this time. Only $55 and good for 8 yrs. It went fine...20 minutes and I was on my way home.
DeleteWe went through the Driver License thing too. There's a reason for all the high-level scrutiny on getting a one now. It's because of the wickedness of our Federal government, and some "blue" States going along with it, allowing illegals to get a DL, our benefits and also to vote. The good States are cracking down on that happening in their States. Georgia is strict, so is Florida. It's a good thing. Trust me.
ReplyDeleteI think you're one of the bravest people I know. If the loneliness get's to be too severe ask God to send someone for you to love and be loved. He will.
Sending Love & Prayers xx
I hate going to the DMV. It's never easy.
ReplyDeleteI like your explanation of being a widow. I think you are amazing.
We love Pickles. I'm always reading them off to Bob because they are so like us.
Good grief, I got my federal driver's license a couple of years ago and almost had a nervous breakdown. It was ridiculous. I had, I thought, everything that was required, but I didn't. I was soooo aggravated but I eventually got all the "mess" they had to have and got my license. I hope yours will be smooth sailing.
ReplyDeleteHope all went well at the DMV, always a test of one's patience. I'm glad you're doing well and am sending you a hug. I'm sure the missing is hard.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the star on the license for? I've never heard of that. My mom and stepdad see themselves in Pickles, too, and get a big kick out of it. The older I get, the more I think I could winter in Florida, but having lived there...no way do I want to live there in the summer!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. Hugs to you! I love that comic strip.
ReplyDeleteI love your answer to #3 about being surprised. It is so true. I managed to get my little star id here in my new state of residence. I had already gotten one in Texas, but had to jump through hoops to get one here. Getting an appointment and bringing all the documents were the thing. Grandpa and Grandma Pickles are funny.
