I always "recap" more than just the weekend, but this is a good place to record things as they are right now.
I had fasting labs Friday morning and since I was going to be at work early I decided to stop at Hole in One Donuts and take a treat to the office (boss's day). The treat was well received but my boss came in late and wasn't feeling well. He stopped on the way in to get a Covid test and it was negative so it was determined that he (just) had a cold. He did go home early.
I stopped at Publix on the way home from work to pick up salad makings and a few other things. I saw a small sliced ham that struck my fancy so I put it in my cart too. Imagine my surprise when I got to the checkout and found out I only had to pay six cents for it!! Publix is true to their word!! Check this out! I hadn't paid any attention to the price since the price was on the shelf.
That said, we had to cancel dinner plans on Saturday. Mrs. Boss and I decided that would be best. I planned to do all the cooking Saturday, so it isn't a problem to push the dinner date to Saturday, the 30th. I was disappointed but don't want a cold OR covid!!
So, on Saturday I did some cleaning, went ahead and cooked the meat I planned to use for our dinner, and froze the meatballs, chicken, and steak rolls (braciola) to have for the 30th.
I attended Sunday school and church on Sunday and then did some laundry. I had a pork tenderloin and some veggies in the crockpot for dinner and it was very good. I will have it again tonight and maybe tomorrow!
Helen needs some new nightgowns and some more non-slip socks so I secured those through Amazon and will take them to her this afternoon. It seems her socks find their way into other people's laundry and rooms. I took her 12 pairs three months ago and was told she needs some socks, so there are twelve more pairs being delivered today. I will ask about marking them as hers. I'm sure there is a system.
So that's the recap. I have some things in the shed that I would like to give away and my techie friend, Gregory, told me that one of the museum employees could be of help to me getting the Christmas decorations from the shed's loft and taking a few things off my hands for use in his own workshop. He is young and he and his wife have four kids to care for so I will be happy to help him out as he helps me out. If he takes the workbench, I will store the Christmas boxes where it is and they will always be easy to get to!! Brilliant!

So sorry your boss was not well and you had to postpone your dinner plans, but better safe than sorry, and I am sure you will all enjoy it better next weekend. Wow! What a deal on that ham!! Yes, Publix stands by their "mistakes". Good for you! Re: Helen's socks, etc., yes, you probably should mark them with a permanent marker with her name/room #. We had to do that with all of Nanny's clothes because otherwise she never saw them again. They TRY to keep the laundry sorted by rooms, etc., but most places are short handed and they have too much laundry to keep up with. Glad you had a peaceful weekend and got some things accomplished. And how wonderful to have some help with your shed items, etc. That is a blessing! Hope you have a wonderful week. It is a blessed 52 degrees here this morning!!! Fall has arrived, at least for this week!
ReplyDelete6 cents! WOW, what a misprint on someone's part, grin. I would def. put Helen's room number and name on her items, Terri. I hope you have a beautiful day, friend.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about not wanting to get sick. Mom and my Lindsay's family are all sick at this moment. I am just trying not to breathe around any of them:) I think I would try to put her initials on the bottom of those socks with a sharpie. IT might help a bit. I know you are happy to get one more thing checked off a list of things to move out. I feel like I will be doing that for a while to come. The last few years I have really been trying to get rid of the excess of the 80s and 90s.
ReplyDeleteWow you got a deal! Hopefully they can mark Helen's socks with a laundry pen.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Can hardly believe the deal you got on the ham, Terri. Wow! So glad you'll have help in cleaning out your shed and having an accessible place to store your Christmas decorations to boot. I do hope that your boss feels better soon, too!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, and have a great week!
Wow, that was a buy on the ham!! The shed will be perfect for your Christmas decorations. My SIL has to wait for her children to help get hers from the attic and it is always a chore and makes her feel she is imposing on them. Nice to be able to do as many things for ourselves as we can as we get older. You are so good to Helen, Terri. Your servants heart shines through.
ReplyDeleteA six cent ham. Wow. What a deal. I'll be getting a ham to go with the Thanksgiving turkey, but finding one at that price surely won't happen.
ReplyDeleteRoutine stuff going on around here today. The AC man is coming to do the 6-month maintenance and then I have things to do to prepare from visitors from Colorado later this week. I am greatly looking forward to that.
All your menu plans sound so good!
I hope your boss recovers quickly and that, indeed, it was "just a cold."
Wow... I always did like Publix...always clean and friendly, but I found folks in Florida to be on the friendly side anyway. Walgreens... etc... I miss that.
ReplyDeleteJust paid for my car inspection.. No work needed but just the basics of oil,etc..125 buckeroos...no inspections in Florida.. its those little things that make Florida so great... Sorry I moved but those darn hurricanes!! LOL
Ya, I had to do the perm markers on my mother's clothes, too. I'm remembering when she'd sew personalized name tags inside my clothes for summer camp. WTG on that 6-cent ham! Oh, after I saw the photo of your pork roast yesterday, I went out and bought a pork loin of our own for last night's supper. Delish! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteSix cents for a ham!?! How in the world did that happen? Man, I would have wanted to buy 2 or 3 of them. lol Glad you had a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteTheir employee made a mistake and I got the benefit. I didn't even look at the label until the cashier took it to the manager for permission to charge six cents. I would have been happy to pay the full price but was thrilled with my good luck!
DeleteThat is the best deal!
ReplyDeleteI hope your boss feels better soon. I know you'll all enjoy the supper when it happens.
He is much better and came to work today. Praise God.
