Thanks to the Chief Theif, Bev Sykes, for today's questions! Join in right HERE!
1. What was your proudest moment. For myself... graduating from college with honors, at 50 years old. I was asked to give the Call To Worship at graduation.
2. What is your favorite childhood memory? Gosh, I am blessed with so many wonderful childhood memories I can't single out just one. At the top of the list are the annual family reunions and playing with my cousins. Also on that list are all the summer weekends at Rocky Fork Lake and boat rides on the pontoon (see yesterday's post for the picture).
3. Describe your dream vacation. We had that vacation back in 2007 when we went to Italy but (if I win the lottery!) I would still love to do a European River Cruise, Cruise the Mississippi on a paddlewheel boat, and take the Canadian Rockies train trip. Oh... and there is also Scotland, Ireland, and Denmark & Sweden now that my DNA says I am 9% Scandinavian. Why not!! I can dream!
4. Do you see yourself as an optimist, pessimist, or realist? Why? I am an optimist and a realist, and I trust in my awesome God which makes that pretty easy.
5. What is something you wanted to do as a child, but never got to do. You know what, I have no recollection of wanting to do anything as a child other than play outside, be with my friends, and have adventures pretending to be Trixie Beldon or Nancy Drew. I was blessed to grow up before computers, cellphones, and the internet. I was blessed with great parents, aggravating younger siblings, and my BFF right across the street. I thought I had it all, and I really did. We didn't know what we didn't have so I didn't care.
6. What board game do you hate the most? I am not a game player. If I never had to play a board game or card game again I wouldn't miss it. What I would miss is the camaraderie and fun with friends that go with playing games. So I play games to be with friends. That's okay.
7. Describe the worst haircut you ever got. The 'pixie' was in. Check out the bangs (or lack thereof)! Second-grade. I really look like my dad in this picture (especially).
8. What’s the worst job you ever had? I have never had a "worst" job but I guess the nastiest one was cleaning rooms at a motel one summer. It wasn't that bad but makes me leave hotel rooms tidy when I stay in a hotel/motel and I always leave a tip for housekeeping.
9. What is one thing you want to be remembered for? That I was kind, a Christian, and that my family and friends loved me enough to miss me a bit when I'm gone.
10. On a scale of 1-10, what is the highest level of pain you’ve ever experienced? Since I have never experienced childbirth, I have to say the most painful surgery I had was when I had my big toe joint replaced. That recovery was more painful than both of my knee replacements and just a little more painful than my rotator-cuff surgery. Foot surgery was a killer for me. It hurt so bad that I had to crawl on my hands and knees to get to the bathroom. It was in 1989 so hopefully, changes have been made for the better.
11. What fashion trend do you wish would go away? I think it is going away because I don't see it so much anymore but guys with their pants hanging down with their underwear showing is gross and ridiculous.
12. What’s the weirdest dream you’ve ever had. I rarely remember my dreams and can't think of a weird one... because I don't remember them! I know I had a silly dream or a weird one, but rarely remember what it was about.
13. What are 2 weaknesses you have. I am impatient, and I am impatient.
14. How would you spend your 100th birthday? Hopefully in Heaven.
15. What food/drinks would you pack in a picnic basket? Chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, fresh fruit, and sweet tea. Brownies for dessert!
Have a blessed Sunday!
Update on Helen: I called yesterday to see how she was doing and got to talk with one of the nurses in her new location. She told me that Friday, moving day, was tough. Helen kept packing her things and threatened to call the police. Saturday, she was eating well and was having fun in the common room talking with the other ladies and participating in the activities. The nurse advised me to not come over until Wednesday or Thursday to allow Helen to get settled into her new routine. I feel better about that and am happy to be able to stay away for a few days. They will call me if I am needed. Praise God.

That pixie cut hair-do is something else, Terri! Yes, you do resemble your dad in that photo. Thanks for the update on Helen, too. Sounds like she is going to make this adjustment quite well.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Sunday, my friend!
I had pixie haircuts too but with curled bangs:) I think the memory care unit is the right place for Helen and I think she will enjoy chatting with others in the community room and working on activities with the others.
ReplyDeleteUgh on the pixie. Hated it! My mom made me get that haircut for years because she said my hair was too thin + her hairdresser told her if I kept getting it then my hair would come in thicker. I got teased so badly because it made me look like a boy. UGH!
ReplyDeleteSounds like Helen is settling in. Your picnic sounds yummy.
Have a great day!
Impatient? Oh that rings a bell...twice here too! lol And yes we had a pixie hair cut at the beginning of summer a couple of years in a row. Oh my! After going so long without a cut this past year, I was wishing I had one though! lol Enjoy your Sunday sweet lady!
ReplyDeleteWow ... that's an amazing resemblance! Actually, you look beautiful with your pixie. (I wasn't so fortunate, lol.) Having worked 15 years at a resort, I can attest, the housekeeping staff are often undervalued. I love that you still leave a gratuity for them. Mississippi River Cruise? Canadian Rockies? Yessss ... girl, I'm soooo there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on Helen; her caregivers certainly sound wise.
Yes, the Pixie... actually I loved it in the Summer...easy to take care of but happy to move on... :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update on Helen, when dealing with dementia, it can be tough...sigh...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the smiles, and I would love to share a picnic with you. smiles
Congrats on college at 50. I graduated as a teacher at age 44...within one year my son graduated in Texas and on to law school...daughter graduated in Indiana...I graduated at age almost 60 with Master's Plus...even went to graduation so granddaughters could experience it...I love the fact that as we age, we want to get more of an education...I almost finished Doctorate...but sadly, old...lol...prayers for you at this time of your journey in life.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about you graduating at 50 - I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful things here...Yes, the college degree at age 50 is marvelous! So proud of you! I always wanted to go back and finish, but children and hubby's degrees and his career (ministry) came first and that was ok. I don't know what I would have done with it. LOL. You definitely looked like your dad with your pixie haircut, but I think you look like him anyway. So cute! But I like your natural curly look better. I think "impatience" must be a virtue, because so many of us have it! LOL. Glad to hear Helen was settling down once they got her moved. I think she will be fine. The extra activities and people to chat with will be so good for her. And yes, stay away a few days and she will be fine. She may even get to the point like my MIL did and say, "Don't ever take me out of this place, because I love it here!" Oh, I love your picnic lunch idea. That is what I plan to fix for our church ladies' June UMW meeting. We take turns providing the luncheon, and another lady is helping me with dessert, and other items. Perfect early summer lunch! Enjoyed your answers. Always fun to visit you.
ReplyDeleteMy terrible haircut was 7th grade and a shag. I have naturally curly hair so rather than the popular shag mine turned into a poodle cut. Lots of fun answers to read.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see this about Helen (after the first day, that is). She's going to be okay!
ReplyDeletePraying your first day on the job is really good.
Glad Helen is settling in.
ReplyDeleteI'm impatient too! (Especially when driving)
I was also the victim of the pixie.
You did good to graduate with honors at 50. And I do believe that when the time comes, you will be remembered for the things you listed. :)
