Monday's Weekend Recap...Lots of Art!

This weekend was all about Mayfaire by-the-Lake, the Polk Museum of Art's annual fine arts festival on the banks of Lake Morton (the swan lake)!!  It was canceled last year, like so many events, but back this year and it was great!  I took a lot of photos... here are some of them.  Seems like a lot, but there were 150+ artists wrapped 2/3 of the way around the lake!  You can find all of the artists online HERE and I have also given you the artists' websites at each photo below.

This was approaching the Museum's Tent (t-shirts, posters, etc.) from the parking lot.
I got a great spot at the Museum by getting there just before 9:00 a.m.

Some organic looking ceramic sculpture by William Kidd

Photography by Stephen Koury.

These WOOD 'sinks' are just beautiful! I was blown away by them.  John Williams is the artist.

I have always loved Scott Causey's ceramics and the Museum purchased a few of his pieces
for the permanent collection.

I was impressed by these huge photographs by Glenn Lewis.

Some rather strange sculptures.  Had not seen his work before.  Todd K. Fox is the artist.

There were quite a few jewelry artists. I wasn't real impressed with any of them this year.
Peggy Miller is the artist.  You can find ALL of the artists HERE.

Marian Baker is the artist and she described her art as contemporary folk art.

I spotted some of the swans between a couple of tents so had to get a picture.
Needless to say, the birds do not enjoy Mayfaire. God is the artist, by the way.

And this shows the backs of the tents on the other side of the lake.

This was probably the strangest art I saw.  She makes "dolls" out of found objects.
The artist is Cheri Kudja.

This pottery is BEAUTIFUL.  The artist is Glen Woods.

Fused glass pockets (wall vases) by Corrina Leidy.

The weather was beautiful and the crowds at around 9:30 were already big.

BIG landscapes. This artist is Helen Gotlib.

I was mesmerized by this artist's work. These are oil and acrylic PAINTINGS!
The artist is Pavlina Alea.

This artist is Steve Palmer.  Glass!!

Wildlife photography by Robert Rommel.

I left the lake area and went to the Museum Store to poke around a bit.  These wooden tulips are so pretty but they were priced at $40 for 10 of the long ones and $25 for 10 of the little ones.  Not in the budget but they would sure make a pretty bouquet that the cats couldn't eat!! LOL

Outside the Museum were two balloon flowers (on each side) greeting people.  Nice touch!

This is the t-shirt image (and posters, magnets, etc.).  Of course, I bought a t-shirt.
The artist for this year's Mayfaire image is R. L. Alexander.

I went to Publix when I left Mayfaire and got myself a Mother's Day/Mayfaire treat.
This candy/caramel apple was really delicious!

I went to church yesterday.  Always good for my soul.
Back to work today which is good for my bank account!.

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves us!!

  3. I'm blown away by the talent and variety of artists, Terri. What a day you had! It's such a coincidence about the caramel/chocolate apple; my step son and his wife sent me those for Mother's Day, and just wow! I've never tasted anything so decadent and rich. Hope you enjoyed yours!
    Blessings!

  4. Oh I would have loved to visit those tents. Like you, those ceramics and the tulips appeal to me. I guess I am a philistine because I like art to look like art.lol I do not have much of an imagination in that area.

  6. I know it was good to be back out in the fair again. I love walking around and looking at all the talented people who come up with interesting items. Those sinks out of wood would have certainly stopped me and that pottery is beautiful!

  8. Thank you for taking us the MayFaire via your blog. It was all very interesting. I can probably relate the most to the dolls made from found objects. So clever!

  9. Just lovely! Thank you so much for taking us along to the festival. I used to love the mornings in Florida. So sunny and perfect before it gets too hot. I enjoyed seeing the art. We have a large arts and heritage festival at a lake near us every summer, but it was also cancelled last year. I haven't heard if it will open this year or not. I hope so. It's supposedly ranked in the top 10 nationwide and we always enjoy spending an evening wandering through seeing the crafts and art, hearing the music, and enjoying the food.

  11. What a glorious day you enjoyed! That was smart, arriving early so as to secure a good parking spot. We used to make a point of attending a like-kind festival in Scottsdale; and in fact, I remember Robert Rommel! I'm partial to art photography, so Tom and I used to treat ourselves to one piece each year from Don Schimmel. (Because he travels, I thought he might ben at Mayfaire, but I just looked on line and no.)

  12. So much talent in one place! Wow! I assume all of those things are for sale...not just for display, right? Very fascinating! Some beautiful photography! Love that T-shirt! I think that is the best thing I saw there, besides the live swans on the lake! LOL. How was your caramel apple? It sure looked yummy! Hope you had a good day today at work. We are finally cooled down and I should sleep much better tonight. Have a blessed week.

  13. I know how much you enjoy this and I can see why! Some of those paintings are just incredible and those wooden tulips are pretty too. Such talent there. And now you can walk around and see it, and not have all that knee pain.
That apple looks like a good treat!
