Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions! You can join in right HERE!
Mom

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Mom (2016)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) Meghan Trainor's mom gets a vocal credit on this song ("featuring Kelli Trainor") because the audio of a mother/daughter phone call is included on the recording. Who is the last person you spoke to (not texted!) on the phone? Our niece, Peggy, called (from Maryland) and we talked for at least 30 minutes, catching up on all the D'Orsaneo family news.
2) The earliest version of this song was a poem co-written by Meghan and her brother as a gift to their mom. Do you enjoy writing/crafting/baking or [insert your skill here] gifts for people? Not so much. I like cooking for a crowd and would love to cook for my mom again.
3) Meghan's mom ran Jewel of the Isle, a jewelry store in Nantucket, MA. Have you ever visited Massachusetts? If so, where have you gone? I have never visited Massachusetts but wouldn't mind a SUMMER visit to New England.
4) Mother's Day is a big holiday for card shops. So are birthdays, weddings, and dozens of other special occasions. Hallmark sells greetings for everything from "Congratulations on Your New Job" to "Happy Retirement." Who received the most recent card you bought? It was my 4-year old great-great niece, Maya. We are pen-pals now and exchange cards and letters and even little gifts. She sent me a stretchy Dumbo bracelet a couple of weeks ago and we ask each other questions to answer in the next card or letter. I am loving it and am told that Maya loves getting her mail. This was her Easter outfit!
5) While Crazy Sam was growing up, her mother used to scold her for leaving dirty dishes in the sink. Sam admits it: as an adult, she still puts off washing her dishes. Are you more like a mother or daughter? Do you clean up after every meal, or do you let the dishes stack up? Actually kind of the opposite. My mom was not quick about cleaning the kitchen and often it was my job anyway. I do not let dishes sit in the sink or on the counter. I clean up every time I use a pan or dish or fork or glass... most go in the dishwasher and that takes no time at all.
6) Mother's Day is for grandmothers, too. Sam grew up calling her grandmother "Grandgran." What did you call your grandmother? I had three sets of grandparents due to divorce. My dad's mom was Granny. My mom's mom was Grandma and so was my step-grand. Called them both Grandma and usually with the last name just to differentiate - but not to their faces.
7) The German word for "mother" is "mutter." What other German words do you know? I can count to twelve in German (not sure why) but I do have German ancestry with the names Switzer and Willman in my lineage.
8) In the United Kingdom, Mothering Sunday is celebrated. It's on the fourth Sunday in Lent (March 14 this year) and in addition to flowers and cards, mothers are treated to Simnel cake. Are you going to indulge in any sweets this weekend? I will most likely indulge because I have ice cream nearly every evening and there is still chocolate in the candy dish. I don't have special plans for Mothers' Day, other than church. Hoping for a couple of phone calls. Who knows... I might go to Mayfaire for a second day!
9) To celebrate Mother's Day, Sam is giving away her mother's favorite: Hershey Bars! Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or milk chocolate with almonds? I would grab the milk chocolate with almonds first but do also like the other two.

Mmm I'd grab the dark chocolate. That's so cute that you have a pen-pal. She is adorable.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Maya is such a doll, Terri! I think it's so sweet that you are pen pals with her. Hope you have a lovely Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteMy Mother is in Heaven and I always have those memories especially on Mothers Day. The idea of a pen pal is precious. We will have a cookout - if it doesnt rain on Sunday afternoon with Murphy cooking of course. I have been to Boston and we toured the town. Hope you get those phone calls tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom went to Heaven long before I was old enough to celebrate Mother's Day. I wish she had lived a little longer so we could have done so, and also could have got me old enough to get out of the house before the abuse started. She had no control over that, though. I'm glad I had her for as long as I did. God is good and I give Him the glory.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day! xx
My Mother was fanatical about any dirty dish..always appreciate it in the morning!! Nothing like a clean kitchen to start the day.. :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very Happy Mother's Day, Terri. smiles
ReplyDeleteYour pen-pal is adorable! Suppose she'll start her own blog someday?
ReplyDeleteI still remember your gifting me those yummy pizelles! I'd planned to take some home to Tom, but wound up eating them all in the motel room. 😋
I love about any kid of chocolate. I would also choose the almonds. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend my friend and thanks for the tune!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful mother's day Terri! sandie
ReplyDeleteLove your answers, and that sweet little Maya is adorable! I can imagine she really looks forward to your letters and little gifts, etc. What fun to have a little girl to share such love with! I do hope you will have a nice day tomorrow. We will also go to church, and probably out to lunch after with our friends. The kids have to work tomorrow (Rose at Home Depot all day), so they will come over after she gets off in the evening for a cookout. I will still have to cook, but Scott will help me. I know we are both missing our mothers on this Mother's Day...and I miss my Mother in law too. She was a real special lady. I was blessed to have two such "Mothers". Have a blessed day tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMaya is so cute and I think it's sweet that you are penpals.
ReplyDeleteI am a cleaner and put things away person like you.
Unlike you - it's dark chocolate for me!
